although your chest aches and you feel empty, you lay back on your bed knowing that this sadness will pass you by. the sun shines brightly through your window. your clothes are soft against your skin. you will be okay.
you march in a protest for something you believe in. your hands grip the sign you made last night and your throat burns from the chanting you’ve been doing. the night air is cool but you burn bright with resistance.
you lay back on the mossy ground of a forest clearing. life is too much. too hectic, too unkind. your eyes follow the path of the clouds in the sky as you peer through the trees, waiting for nature to take its course and swallow you.
you speed along an empty california highway. the desert stretches for miles in either direction on each side of the two-lane interstate and your car leaves dust in its wake. you’re going 85, top down, music blasting.
you’re a young witch who lives in a small house on the edge of the city. you’ve done nothing but help people with your abilities, but recently someone made you very angry. you dance around your space as you plot your revenge.
the sun is setting as you lay back on your roof. the last few rays of light wash over your body. the breeze is soft and cool. you close your eyes and bask in the warmth, knowing the last days of summer are passing you by.
it’s 1989 and you’re standing behind your high school. a cigarette dangles from your lips. you should be in fourth period, but class is boring and you aren’t. you don’t belong here.
you’ve just ended a long relationship. you feel light, airy, and free. you know you should feel guilt, but you’re ready to embark onto the next part of your life. life is bright and you’re happy.

Cord Cutting Rituals
Tumblr media
Background Info:
Cord cutting rituals are conducted typically at the end of a relationship, whether that be platonic or romantic in nature. The whole concept of cord cutting rituals stems from the idea that one needs to cut their etheric ties to someone or something. Doreen Virtue, a former spiritualist who has now since converted, says that etheric cords “act like hoses, with energy directed back and forth between both people.”
Etheric cords have the potential to transmit energy and communication between two people, but sometimes this cord becomes unhealthy. In my own personal experience, cords that are unhealthy often result in an obsession with that person, a fear that you’re being manipulated, and in some cases the knowledge that you’re being gaslit even if the relationship itself has ended.
The purpose of cord cutting rituals is cutting those unhealthy energetic ties to someone or something (like an addiction!). A cord cutting ritual will allow you to move on to better things and leave that unhealthy tie in your past.
Cord Cutting Ritual
Supplies: -Incense (optional) -Candle -A picture of yourself and the thing you are cutting cords to (if you don’t have a photo, the names written on a piece of paper works well) -Scissors -A cord (can be yarn, thread, rope, etc.)
The way I conduct cord cutting rituals are a bit different than most sources I’ve seen. One of the dangers of a cord cutting ritual I want to urge you to be aware of is that if you do not remove the cord from you, that cord can reappear. While cord cutting can entirely be symbolic (i.e. making the motion of cutting a cord as opposed to cutting a literal cord), I prefer the method of doing it literally as well.
Since this is a ritual, I encourage you to cast a circle so there is no unwanted energy that seeps in or out. If you prefer not to cast a circle, however, that is absolutely fine. Just make sure that your space is protected so the energy raised doesn’t spill out or any unwanted energy seeps in.
If you’d like to pray to your ancestors, speak with any of your guides or deities or entities you work with, do so now. I like to ask them to enter my space and be with me as I do my work.
Dress your candle if you so choose. Your candle will represent the healing energy for after your cord cutting. You can use herbs or oils (be sure to use carrier oils if you’re using essential oil blends!) or carve sigils/runes/symbols into the candle! Do it however you like.
Light your candle and as it burns, feel the healing energy of the candle wash over you.
Take your pictures or your names written on a piece of paper and then your “cord” and attach the cord between the photo or the pieces of paper.
Take your scissors or knife or whatever you’ll be cutting the cord with. As you cut the cord, visualize the tie between you and the object being cut, severing those ties. Once you’re ready, untie the cords attached to your end and visualize those cords being dug out of your energetic self so that nothing remains.
Visualize yourself and the other person as healed and whole. Let the candle burn either all at once or over several days, whichever you need to feel that healing energy. Once your ritual has ended, dispose of the cords in two separate places. You can burn them or bury them, whichever you feel is right.
