something about katniss growing up eating bread from peeta’s bakery and peeta growing up eating her father’s and katniss’s squirrels… nourishing each other and keeping each other alive even before the games made it apparent

one thing i don’t think people talk about enough in the THG is Peeta’s rebelliousness. like sure we focus on Katniss because she played such a huge role in the whole rebellion but Peeta’s situation is so interesting to me. like he went into the games prepared to die, he knew that he hadn’t a chance (or if he did a very small one) of beating Katniss and the Careers but still he kept loyal to who he was. he refused to bend to the animalism nature that lot of the children in the games develop. its also very telling when his talent in catching fire was a depiction of Rue in her bed of flowers thus showing that he refused to let the capitol ignore their crimes. he takes something so tragic that united the district (11 giving Katniss bread) and simultaneously calls outs the capitals brutality whilst also letting them know that they caused what they fear. unity. hes just so simple and calm in his rebellion compared to Katniss’s direct approach that i feel the smaller aspects sometimes get swept under the rug…anyway stan firegirl and breadboy <3

i know some ppl can see katniss as the strict parent, but it has never came into my mind. have you seen how easy she can be w prim? have you seen peeta in cf? strict personal trainer extraordinaire ??!! katniss would look right into her kid’s face- connect something w peeta like her daughters blue eyes or her sons face and would go ‘okay-just don’t tell your father this- please. i don’t want you in trouble my little ducks’ ! allowing them to get away w it. not to say peeta wouldn’t be a fantastic parent- he would just be the more strict on w rule and routine

So, i am reobsessed with thg and decided to reread the books. 3 chapters in, the mayor buys expensive strawberry from katniss, even though he knows its likely gathered illegally, his daughter hangs around katniss ALL the time, gives her an expensive gold FAMILY HEIRLOOM, and Mr Mellark gives her cookies, which she describes as a HUGE luxury, then tells her he will keep an eye on prim for her. The entire time katniss thinks these people just barely tolerate her and only keep her around for trading purposes. Like, wow, the mayor must REALLY like strawberries. Madge must really tolerate hanging out with me. She's alright i guess. This man says he'll take care of my sister for me, he must really like prim.

It's genuinely funny how oblivious she is and so incredibly sad how she doesn't think people absolutely adore her in 12 and no, they don't absolutely love prim, they love HER so much that they take care of prim because she's the only thing katniss cares about.

I think something many readers completely misunderstood when the books first came out, and even now, is that Katniss IS like other girls. She’s not some solitary strong independent woman™ who’s not like the other girls. She very much is the other girls.

She’s shy and vulnerable and judgemental and inexperienced and embarrassed. She loves flowers (dandelions!) and pretty things and fashion and dresses. She would have music and singing in her life more if she wasn’t so traumatised and stunted. She has crushes and she’s very romantic, if we go by her own descriptions of Peeta and what she notices from her parents. She’s metaphorically (and sometimes literally inside her own mind) twirling her hair and kicking her feet and giggling any time she’s around him. She’s such maternal and protective instincts for Prim, Peeta, Rue and countless others throughout the series. She cares for people a lot and she values community and friendship and love. She wants softness, she wants cuddles, she wants her hair played with, she wants to look good, she wants to wear cute and fun things, she wants to be kissed and loved, she wants to go frolicking in fields of dandelions.

She is just like other girls and the tragedy is that she’s never able to fully just be a girl.

the fact is the 75th hunger games tributes were working hard to keep peeta alive because coin specifically wanted him for her cause/the rebellion. HOWEVER katniss had no way of knowing this and the first assumption that this girl makes is, "oh they must be protecting him/wanting him to get out of here alive because he is the only decent person in this arena and he is goodness and hope personified and has such a bright future and can offer so much to us in this bleak, bleak world, and they know that out of all of us he is the one who deserves to live."

like yeah while a case can be argued that peeta's goodness is pretty obvious to others, these are people who killed so they could keep their lives, and they barely know these random teens that won last year. the only reason katniss would draw that conclusion is because she literally has it so bad for him and is not at all subtle about it.

Something something about how she has to pretend to despise her own sister, her father. Something about how they had to fight to keep their relationship healthy, to separate their "destiny" from reality. About how her relationship with her sister is probably strained or worse.

Something something about how she feels like she can't have any meaningful connections because of this secret, that has dictated how she acts, talks, and lives since forever.

Something something about how she craves companionship but is too scared that she might ruin her life, her sister's and parent's.
