real vs hyperreal vs surrealist
real- the example I have for real is Harry Styles at the Brit awards. You can tell it’s live as his voice sounds more real and not modified, and you can hear how his voice sounds more echo like since he is performing in a big space, and finally you can hear the audience.

Hyperreal- The example for hyperreal is the live performance on Ariana Grandes album Positions. While she is performing on a stage, you can tell it has been edited to not be as echo like. You also cannot hear an audience.

surrealist- for the surrealist song I choose West End Girls by the Pet Shop Boys. This song uses a lot of non instruments. The only real one it uses is a cymbal. So this song is difficult to do live, as it doesn’t have the same effect.

production analysis
I picked Another One Bites the Dust by Queen. In this song I can hear a bass guitar, piano, electric guitar, and handclaps. I read up on the creation and process of this song and learned Roger Taylor added a drum loop, and Brian May added some guitar and used an eventide harmonizer. The song is pretty straightforward as the melody continues for practically the whole song. The song has no synthesisers, all of the effects were done by the piano, guitar, and drums put in reverse and at different speeds. Towards the middle/end there is a whooshing type sound effect done by the harmonizer The song was written by bassist John Deacon, and was produced by Reinhold Mack at Musicland Studios in Munich, West Germany.

Sampling Ethics
Personally I do believe you should be getting permission when sampling something. It’s important to credit the original creator of what you use, rather than pretending its your own work, or just not caring to credit them.

Sample genealogy
The first example I have of sampling is Crazy in Love by Beyonce that was sampled from the Chi-Lites You Are My Woman. The sound that was sampled occurs multiple times throughout Beyonce’s song, and is a very recognizable tune.
Crazy in Love by Beyonce- https://youtu.be/ViwtNLUqkMY
You Are My Woman by The Chi-Lites- https://youtu.be/hm2YjDENPPU
An example of Interpolation is My favorite Things from The Sound of Music, and 7 Rings by Ariana Grande. This song has the same melody, and even says some of the same lyrics at points.

peer remix
I choose Deannas Ambient song, as I was really able to envision more for it. I lowered the key of the song a ton, and added more reverb and a bit less treble. I added some soft vocals, as they make it more interesting but relaxing as the ambient son should be.

Ambient song
choosing the sounds I wanted came pretty easily to me. I truly just thought about something I would want to study or relax to, and found things I liked that weren’t annoying. I always love the sounds of rain when doing work, so I wanted to incorporate that with a slightly groovy, chill, piano track. The beat adds some life to the song, without it being too overpowering and loud.

Groove Pizza beat
https://apps.musedlab.org/groovepizza/?source=pub&museid=Tugs6wJ9R
My beat was inspired by a few of my favorite 90′s beats. This beat definitely would be in a 90′s rap/pop song.

Favorite and least favorite song
My favorite song at the moment is West End Girls by the Pet Shop Boys. It has the best vibe, and I just adore driving and listening to this song.

I don’t dislike many songs, however I am not the biggest fan of NDA by Billie Eilish. I like the beats at the beginning, but I am not a fan of the autotune parts.

Loop Song
https://soundcloud.com/user-373192479/no-response
I wanted to create a song that had a story. I find it much easier to be creative in this way. This follows someone driving on their way home trying to reach out to someone who doesn’t answer. This leaves the driver distraught and stuck in not knowing what to do. I choose these specific sounds to create the feeling of driving late at night, while creating a steady beat.
