I included dandelion girl in my name because the dandelion is said to represent the military child because a dandelion puts down roots anywhere and is almost impossible to destroy. That's me, at least the first part. I have the ability to put down roots anywhere. I can adapt pretty quickly too! This is the story of a DandelionGirl, an army brat, born to two strong military soldiers.
My parents met when they were 18/19 years old at Fort Campbell in the year of 1988. They dated for a couple of months and got married and the rest... is the journey that I can't wait to take you on. Well, at least my journey, which includes some great stories with my parents. It will be about five years until I come into the picture. My eldest brother came in '89 and my other older brother in '91. Then in '93 I came into the world not realizing the not so normal life that I have entered.
Who likes normal anyway?
I think when I came around the party truly started. Two adults in their mid 20's with three kids? That's already tough, but let's add the lifestyle of having a career in the military! Now that makes for a crazy adventure. Here's where we take a HUGE shout out to all parents both military and nonmilitary striving to do their best in this crazy world. YOU ARE STRONG AND YOU GOT THIS.
Any who I can't imagine being 24 years old with three kids all under the age of five living in a new place every three to four years while your spouse is doing their best serving their country. Kudos... to my Mom. My Mom is and will forever be the strongest, bravest, and smartest person I know. She is the best. I have so many amazing stories about my Mom. She is beyond what words can describe...
Let's not forget a man who told his mom's best friend that when he grows up that he wanted to be a clown. Yup... a clown. He totally could do it, but I'm glad he went to the military instead or I wouldn't be here. My Dad is the kind of man who'd give you the shirt off of his back and a man of many many words. I love him... he's hilarious. I think the only time he didn't make me laugh was when I got in trouble for driving the car into the fence, but that story will come much later. I will also add that it's BOTH of my brothers' fault anyway.
The most annoying question you can ask a military kid is: "Where are you from?" That is a loaded question. Do they mean where I was born, where I lived before today, or what? WHAT DO THEY MEAN??? Well, my brothers and I were all born in the same state. If you were expecting foreign countries, sorry to disappoint. My Mom thought it best to be close to family when she was pregnant. I couldn't agree more... especially when you have my Grandparents. As for where we have lived... many places in the States and in Europe. If you were to asked my Dad where he's traveled the answer would be every continent except Antarctica and maybe Australia... I forgot to ask about Australia. Whoops🤷♀️
If you stick with me, you will definitely laugh... maybe cry if my words could even move you to that. I think most of all though you'll read a new perspective (I hope) and enjoy the tales this DandelionGirl has to share. If you found that line corny, well good. That's me, I'm an oddball. I wouldn't have it any other way.
