Sidney, a US soldier, and Sala, a recently liberated survivor, met in the summer of 1945 in Ansbach, Germany. Shortly after, Sidney was forced to leave for England on an assignment. We found his oath to return, written and signed, on the inside cover of Bubbe’s journal. Admittedly not the most romantic of love letters, but Poppa did come back for her. They were married 6 months later.
I hereby state that I, Sidney Kirschner, will return to Ansbach be it militarily possible and within my choice, at the earliest moment.
