“oh …” it is more of a sigh than a word. the corners of her lips faintly turn upwards into a slight smile, before dolores shrugs, “i don’t know. if i were to see the world, i don’t think that i would like to see it alone – …but, who am i to go with?” emily is now the seemingly obvious answer, considering the girl’s musings. then again, the young bride has a fair point; where are two young women with little experience in the world going to travel to? the idea itself is too far fetched from reality for dolores to gain any attachment to it. 

“then again, i’m happy here. i don’t have anything to complain about, and there’s little that i still wish for … it could be a worse life. and after all – home is where the heart is.”

      Alone. Yes, that is part of the problem, isn’t it? The attic is such a solitary place, in spite of the fact that the rest of the mansion is teeming with spirits. They have each other, of course -- for Emily does consider Dolores to be a friend. But the space is permeated by the sense of missing things. Absent loves and stolen moments of time.

      The blonde offers a small smile in response to Dolores’s assertion of contentment. It’s a feeling that Emily doesn’t entirely share. She can’t ignore the feeling of being trapped here. If she could leave, if she could muster the will and the strength... maybe the world is out of reach, but to simply see somewhere else in the mansion would be a welcome respite. 

      “I suppose... it doesn’t feel like home to me,” she admits quietly. The manor had never gotten to be a home to her in life, after all. “And I do wish for something more, but I almost don’t know what.”

1.01 - 1.10

      The mansion was used to seeing its fair share of visitors. The guests ranged in their motivations from those lured by the possibility of uncovering lost legends, to those who simply wanted to take more tangible riches from the decrepit manor. Regardless of their reasoning, though, few mortals ever made it up to the attic. Whether the local tales were to be believed or not, the most hauntingly gruesome stories often concerned the space at the top of the mansion.

      Which was why the bride was surprised at the presence of a mortal -- and such a young one at that.

      “Go back.” She made no effort to manifest, but her words would carry all the same. “It isn’t safe for you here.”

      “Do you ever wish for change?”

      Existing as a ghost was an inherently static state of being. At times the bride felt as though she were frozen, petrified like a bug caught in ancient amber -- forever pinned as a moment in time. The attic itself didn’t help, decked out with various bits and baubles befitting of a wedding. Mocking, almost.

      “Sometimes I think I might like to go somewhere else. But, then, I don’t know where else there is to go.”
