Interactive object. The project is an instrument for communication between two people by means of visualising the electroencephalograms of two members, which are translated into sound, mechanical motion, and video images. Two participants should try to synchronize their minds, guided by the pitch of the tone, visualisation and movements of mechanical parts.

State.Scape
Tumblr media
Mirjana Prpa, Svetozar Miucin, Bernhard Riecke 2014
State.Scape is 3D computer simulated virtual environment that directly responds to users' states provided in Emotiv Affective Suite (meditation, engagement, and excitement).
The model was created in Unity3D SDK. It displays a rendering of a flock of birds that followed the pivot point, which was randomly positioned during the sessions. We used three states provided in Emotiv Affective Suite (meditation, engagement, and excitement) to control the flock. Changes in EEG brainwaves controlled the flock’s position, birds’ speed, and their number. Apart from controlling the flock properties, EEG states were mapped to control the volumes of different audio tracks. Each session consisted of three different camera views, each lasting 75 seconds. The first camera view was positioned outside of the flock, capturing the environment (the sky and the clouds), and partially, the flock as it moves around the scene. The second camera was inside the flock, capturing the movement of the flock. The third camera was above the flock. The level of short-term excitement controlled the number of the birds, the higher it became the more birds were shown. The level of the meditation score controlled the speed of the birds. The higher score caused a reduction in the birds’ speed.

Activating Memory

Eduard Miranda 2014

description below taken from: https://vimeo.com/88151780
"Activating Memory" is a performance piece for 8 participants: a string quartet and BCMI quartet. BCMI stands for Brain Computer Music Interface.
The BCMI quartet involves four persons wearing a brain cap furnished with electrodes to read information from the brain of 4 persons. I teamed up with g.tec, a manufacturer of biomedical technology, and Joel Eaton at ICCMR, to design an extraordinary machine that converts brain information into musical scores.
During the performance, the BCMI quartet generates musical scores to be performed by the string quartet in real-time: each member of the BCMI quartet generates an individual part for a musician of the string quartet.
The first public experimental performance of "Activating Memory" took place on 09 February 2014 at Peninsula Arts Contemporary Music Festival, Plymouth, UK, by the Bergersen String Quartet.
The piece lasts for approximately 20 minutes and has two movement. Each time the piece is played it will sound different. Here is a historical sample from the first performance, in SoundCloud:

Solaris

Julia Borovaya, Edward Rakhmanov, ::vtol:: 2014
“The man got to know other worlds, other civilizations, not knowing completely his own hides, alleyways, wells, blocked dark doors.” S. Lem --Solaris Interactive installation demonstrates the field influence of the permanent magnet on the magnetic and spirit (fluorescent) liquids. Two liquids constitute the diphasic system. Due to liquids movements and their surfaces' modifications we visualize the unique processes of human brain. The spectator wears on neuro interface Emotive Epoc, the device computes a brain activity and sends information to the installation machinery To test the project people of different ages, social groups and professional areas were invited. Test results confirmed that brain activity and mood of the man reflect on the dynamic and character of liquids movements in the sphere. Object reacts on the changes of mind and emotion states. People who spent a plenty of time with the object managed to influence the dynamic and direction of the liquids on the unconsciousness level. We also reveal that the installation visualizes the temperament of the person. The object copies your mental organization and echoes it on the liquid's surface. The object becomes a part of the participant.
