“ you know... maybe you should stop acting like an ass around your family. just an idea, ” bash suggested with a grin. if you didn’t have your family on your side... who did you have ? “ oh ? ” the proposal nearly made him fall onto the ground. bastiaan, a best man ? it had to be some sort of a miracle or proof of how poor a judge of character he was. “ yeah, yeah i’ll do it. you sure though ? i’m not the most romantic guy around and people have expectations for wedding speeches. ”

ariel blinked, as the lump in her throat and the rock that firmly thudded in the pit of her stomach grew. she was consciously trying not to think about her boyfriend, but it seems as if bash had different ideas. “uhh - yeah sure.” it wasn’t as if she was going to shout it out from the rooftops! “you’re… worried about what your mom would say?” 

“ thanks. ” he pressed a kiss on top of her head. it was a fair deal for the both of them. it wasn’t like ariel had anything to gain from bringing this up. “ i mean– ” his cheeks reddened. if she put it like that, it sounded childish. “ shut up. ” he cleared his throat and massaged his sleepy eyes. “ i had a good time. it was fun after such a long time. do you want to get breakfast ? ”

“ yes but... you have weird orphan energy despite having two parents. ” his hand vaguely gestured towards her. “ i happen to have respect for the old man. ” more than manon could imagine, he was willing to bet. “ so can’t do that. i have to be nice about this. ” he leaned forward and raised his brows at her before poking the dimple that had appeared. “ don’t be bitchy, manon. i like it more when you’re nice. it’s such a rare treat. ” he returned his gaze to the message. “ the question is, will the evening be way too uncomfortable and a waste of my time, or will it be alright and possibly even fun ? i don’t like gambling with my evenings. ”

“ how would you politely tell your dad, his good friend and the friend’s daughter that even though i’m in spain, i’m not exactly available for a blind date ? but i also can’t refer to it as a blind date since they are insisting that the daughter wants to be friendly and appreciate the friendship of our parents. ” he rubbed his temple and stared at the message he had accidentally opened before reading the preview.
