Redesigned my daughter

I don’t dislike her canon designs, I think they work for their intended purpose, but I wanted to try my hand at it. And today is my break so why no spend it on Marinette?

I self imposed the rule that the redesign has to be animation appropriate. I dislike how all the outfits in canon are skin tight, but it’s understandable since it’s in 3D. Clothing folds are the devil in animation. So in theory both redesigns could be used in the show!

These designs may or may not be for a series rewrite I might be working on. Maybe.

First of all I darkened her features. Black hair and brown eyes to resemble her mother more. It’s such a shame that her Chinese heritage is barely visible, and a travesty that a white boy is teaching her Mandarin. I’m disgusted.

I love Marinette in pink, so I kept that, mainly reversing where her colours go. An embroidered pair of dungarees should also show she’s a creative sewer. I added a couple little easter eggs in the embroidery. 

My main problem with the Ladybug suit is that it looks like a second skin. Chat Noir’s suit is segmented and has thicker parts that aren’t skin tight, allowing it to look like a proper suit. Ladybug’s catsuit has no definition, and thus looks lackluster compared to Chat’s. This goes for all of her superhero suits. No definition. So that’s what I added. More layers and texture. Separate gloves and boots, and some wings that also pass for a cape! These will probably change in the future, I want her to have wings like a real ladybug, so the cape lifts up to reveal her real wings underneath. It’s a crime that Ladybug can’t fly. Can you imagine an air battle between Ladybug and Hawkmoth? Yes please!

Dunno when Adrien’s redesign will be done, but rest assured his awful shoes are the first things to go.

Re-redesigned Marinette

After some fantastic critiques on my last attempt, here’s a revamped version of my Marinette redesign.

I was unsatisfied with the wings and her face. The wings were just a bit too long, and I got lazy with the details. There’s meant to be a set of wings under the cape, mimicking real ladybug wings. I imagine the animation could be cool with the “double” wings.

I also modified the suit, mainly trying out a different way to stop the “second skin” look. I also wanted to draw attention away from her butt, that’s just ew.

In canon Marinette is mixed, but her features make her white passing. In my first redesign I darkened her features, but kept the same face. I wanted to change that. The representation in the show is so bad. Adrien offering Marinette Mandarin lessons is just wrong, it’s so wrong.

Can i ask why marinette has 2 identities as the mouse miraculous holder?(toppo and multimouse)?she is once using it as marinette and once as ladybug?(like she tells someone that "hey its me ladybug with the mouse miraculous?")

Essentially yes!

In the reboot, Kwami Buster remains intact, but instead of Mylène getting the mouse, Ladybug keeps it as her secondary Miraculous (Since both she and Chat Noir can purify akumas, and sometimes the Luckycharm won't be as useful)

Since Toppo is exclusive to Kwami Buster, with the intent of being revealed as Marinette, she goes HAM on making it super cute and Marinette's style.

Then as Multimouse she sticks to a sporty and practical look to make a clear distinction.

Powered up/Ascended Ladybug! She is here!

I’ve been working on this for ages, I’m so pleased it’s finished. And unlike the other power ups, I actually have something intelligent to say about this one.

So, as I’ve stated before, these forms are earned through the power of character development. So this Marinette is her older version who’s gone through a lot, but has come out of it stronger. Over-all her colours have been toned down and made warmer. She’s found her own way of being a hero, so no longer needs a bright red costume that she’s not comfortable in. She’s no longer pressuring herself to be the ideal hero as Ladybug, so her intense red has been replaced with a dark peach. Less harsh on the eyes. More Marinette. Her mask now resembles a past Ladybug’s mask (to be revealed at some point), paying homage to her. It’s not flat on her face anymore, but still works like her old mask did. She now has antennae, making her silhouette match Chat Noir’s a little more now. I very nearly removed all the gold from the design, but I think changing the red to peach allowed me to keep it.

And, of course, older Marinette has a stylish short pixie cut. But Ladybug gets GHIBLI HAIR!
