It’s late. The high beams of passing cars scatter a mosaic of light over the backs of Utahime’s departing friends. Even with Suguru’s arm lazily draped over her shoulders, she can’t help but feel an intense sense of loss. Shoko and Satoru have a world between them now that she has no access to. She has a brief terrified vision of the future, where the four of them ever slowly slide apart like tectonic plates.
“It’s not that late,” she hears herself say, “we can still go somewhere else.” It must have come out kind of pathetic because she feels the sympathetic indent of Suguru’s fingers around her upper arm.
“Nah,” says Satoru, who never pays attention to how she feels.
“Lunch tomorrow?” says Shoko, who does. But she’s pulled away before Utahime can give a proper reply.
She has no hold on them besides friendship. This, she realises, is why losers end up in polycules.
Suguru must intuit, as always, the jealous and selfish turn of her thoughts, but he lets her have her dignity, as always, and says nothing. Most of the time she likes that if she says something anxious like “we’ll be together forever right?” he’ll reply with something bracing like “you don’t even want that, you want to marry Shinsuke Nakamura,” but today she wants nothing to change ever again.
Your art style is so visually pleasing 🤩‼️‼️ I'd really love to see satoshoko and getohime on a double date with your art style, I think that'd be really cute. 💖
