8 for the writing prompts! (-meteor-sword)
Thank you!!! Bato threw himself back into the creaky old couch with a sigh. They had finally moved the last of their boxes into the new place. For Bato, that meant a second of peace when he could kick his boots off and let his bad arm rest after all that heavy lifting. For his enthusiastic, and in Bato’s opinion, way-too-caffeinated fiance, that meant it was time to start decorating.  “If you’re not going to help me,” Hakoda said from the other side of the living room with a grunt. “Can you at least let me know if this is on straight before I nail it in?” “Looks perfect to me.” Bato mumbled from his spot on the sofa, eyes very much closed as he drifted off. Hakoda laughed. “You’re not even looking! Some help you are- oh, shit.” At Hakoda’s exclamation, Bato cracked one eye open. He was greeted with the sight of his fiance holding up some shelving against the wall in the most convoluted way imaginable, limbs criss crossing against the wall like a game of vertical twister, a couple of nails held in the corner of Hakoda’s mouth. Bato felt the urge to laugh fondly and sigh conflict in his chest. “What can I do?” he asked, sitting up and stretching out his neck.  “I forgot the hammer in the other room,” Hakoda explained, looking just slightly like a deer caught in the headlights. Before Bato could get up to bring him the hammer, he was met with a question.
“Are those boots durable?” He said, indicating to Bato’s old pair of boots sitting by the sofa with his head. “These? Yeah, they’re steel- toed, why-” In one swift motion, Hakoda somehow managed to stretch his leg out and hook the laces of one of the boots under his toe, reeling it back towards him. With a satisfied “Hah”, he maneuvered the boot into his hand. Bato caught up to his dastardly plot just as hakoda placed a nail against the wall. “Darling, can you not-” Wham.
Looking far too satisfied with himself, Hakoda stepped back from the wall to admire his handiwork. “There,” he said, plopping down next to Bato on the couch. “It looks like home in here already.” Bato, ever the long- suffering member of their relationship, hummed thoughtfully and wrapped an arm around Hakoda’s waist. “Yeah, the boot print on the wall really adds something, doesn’t it?”

Pre relationship Bakoda where Hakoda gives Bato a gay crisis ™ at least once per day. Hakoda will say his name teasingly or flash a haughty smile or let his tunic ride up just so slightly and Bato will just lose all coherent thought and stare into the distance to compose himself.
Relationship Bakoda where Bato will watch Hakoda get up from their bed and roll out his shoulders before tying his hair up for the day, admiring the angles of his body and revelling in the fact that he can finally say “spirirts, you’re gorgeous” out loud after years of stolen glances.

Writing Prompt
“Oh don’t worry, this blood isn’t mine.”
“How long will this take? I got to pick up my dog from the salon.”
“Want me to stab them?”
“Wanna hangout on the rooftop? It’s nice tonight.”
“Okay, who threw the pencil at me?”
“Do you ever get a meme stuck in your head?”
“A vampire? Pfffffffft.”
“These shoes? They are steel toed, why?”
“Take me for a fool? I can balance a spoon on my nose, who is the real fool now?”
“Today was suppose to be my day.”
“Can I lick the spoon after?”
“Please tell me that was the wind.”
“I hate you. Why are you here?”
“Because you’re a piece of sh-!”
“You’re so confident that you already bought their coffin?”
“Let them know that I called.”
“Have you ever seen the water so blue before?”
“No, I’m pretty sure that’s a crocodile.”
“If I could dig my nails into your throat and pull out your vocal cords, I would.”
“I told you.”
“This isn’t remotely what I asked for.”
“Yeah honey, your cooking is great. I love it.”
“Can you let me twirl my knife in peace?”
“What? I can’t send a message to the enemy?”
“The moonlight shone red over the crops this year. The farmers knew that only meant one thing, and so, they went to work.”

Lucky Lady
In which Hakoda is trying to gather some intel and Bato has impeccable timing. A.K.A that one time Bato single handedly destroyed heteronormativity.
For @bakodafleetweek’s Free Day!
I have no idea what this is lolll i’ve had this idea in my head all week where Bato has a sixth sense for people flirting with his man and can just appear when it’s happening.... enjoy.
Warnings for some cursing and mentions of alcohol.
Hakoda snaked in between the odd and very packed crowd as he made is way to the counter in the back of the tavern. After witnessing a fire nation ship dock at this village, already on its last legs as it was, and ransack the place for supplies, Hakoda had made the executive decision that their top priority was now to exact some revenge on the village’s behalf. Seeing the turmoil unfolding from the shore as they came into dock enraged not just Hakoda, but all of his men; the sight of a raided village was all too familiar to his warriors.
Given that, it didn’t take much to convince Bato and the other top warriors that they needed to extend their stay and come up with a sabotage plan. His announcement was met with shouts of passion by most of his men, and a stoic nod from Bato that was so quintessentially him.
So, he found himself at this... charming local establishment, wading to the bar in the far corner between waves of sickly smoke and bodies that really had no business being that sweaty. Enough poking around in the area had told him that this was the best place to go for info on the fire nation ship. Most people he talked to kept their lips tightly closed out of fear, but he heard from plenty that the tavern owner would give him the info he needed.
Sure enough, just after narrowly dodging a thrown chair with a lack of grace he’d never admit to, he spotted a woman behind the counter fitting the description he had been given. Straightening his back, he slid up to the bar between two bulky shoulders. The one on his left gave him a once- over, judging the unfamiliar clothes, but thankfully they didn’t seem to be looking for trouble.
“What can I get you, handsome?”
He turned to see the owner standing in front of him, appraising him in a not-so-subtle way. While he didn’t find it unwelcome per say, he could easily imagine Bato’s exasperated “here we go again” if he were here to see this. Hakoda made a mental note that Bato should be meeting him here any minute now and to keep an eye out for him.
“One of...” he quickly realized she probably didn’t have any water tribe spirits, and he had no idea what kind of stuff people even drank in the Earth Kingdom anyway. He spotted the glass being nursed by the patron to his left.
“...what my friend here is having,” he began. The person to his left raised an eyebrow, unimpressed. “And some information.”
“The first thing, I have plenty of.” She said casually, placing down the glass she was cleaning and moving to lean over the bar towards Hakoda. “The second one is hard to come by. Might cost you extra.” He felt a finger lightly trace over the necklace he was wearing. Unwavering, he moved the hand away from his neck and held her gaze.
“Let’s start with that drink.”
------------------
The owner returned a few minutes later with his drink, stepping away to give a patron hell over his growing tab. “Sorry about that.” she sighed, practically tossing his drink onto the counter. Hakoda made a point to turn to his new friend on his left and raise his glass in a toast. They became somehow even more confused at the gesture.
“Now, about that, uh, payment...” Hakoda began. The confused eyes on his left shifted to the tavern owner, suddenly interested in the drama. The owner smirked and leant her head on her arm, waiting for him to continue.
“I’m afraid I’m spoken for.”
“Oh, really?” She practically cooed, clearly not believing him, “Where is the lucky lady, then?”
The confused eyes drifted back to him. His friend was starting to get annoying.
Hakoda cleared his throat uncomfortably. “Well-”
“That would be me.” A deep voice stated behind Hakoda.
The three of them looked in the direction of the voice to see Bato standing there, completely deadpan. He’d think Bato was annoyed by the situation if he didn’t know him any better, but he recognized the glimmer of humor in his partner’s eyes.
Hakoda turned back to the lady just in time to see her cheeks flush. He swore he saw her brain stop working. His new friend snorted into their drink.
“We’re ready to move. Did you find what you’re looking for?” Bato asked Hakoda without missing a beat, decidedly ignoring the situation around them. “Just about,” Hakoda informed him. “The owner here was just about to tell me when the ship was next expected to dock.”
Bato and Hakoda turned to look at the owner expectantly. So did Hakoda’s new friend. She shook herself out of her stupor and gave into the situation, providing the two men what they needed for the sake of her town.
-----------------
“... Damn. Which way is the door?” Hakoda could barely see through the mass of people as they tried to make their way out of the tavern.
Bato smiled fondly and grabbed Hakoda’s hand, gesturing him to follow with a nudge of his head. Thank the spirits for this beanpole. He thought as Bato easily looked over the heads of the patrons to spot the exit.
Finally, they made it out into the fresh, cool air of the night, and made their way down the hill towards where their men were waiting. They didn’t need to keep their hands clasped, but they did as they walked together.
“What on earth was that back there?” Bato asked, chuckling.
“What?” Hakoda countered defensively.
“‘I’m afraid I’m spoken for’? Who are you, your mother?”
“I don’t need to take this abuse from you, you have no idea how hard it is being this gorgeous! Well, actually, you might, but-” Bato groaned fondly at the unsubtle compliment and his partner’s antics before guiding Hakoda’s face to his with his hands, shutting him up with a firm kiss. Hakoda instantly melted and held on to Bato’s wrists as he kissed him back, humming contentedly.
Gently, Bato pulled away and held his gaze. Hakoda felt his knees go a little weak. “Fire Nation ship.” He murmured, reminding Hakoda they had work to do.
Hakoda smiled and nodded. “Fire Nation ship.” He stole another quick peck, and the two of them resumed walking.
At the top of the hill, Hakoda’s new friend stumbled slightly out of the tavern, and watched the two figures ahead of them as they pressed together and continued down the hill. They sighed.
“That’s cute as shit.”

Bakoda Day 6/ Prompt: Height Difference/ @bakodafleetweek +*
Ok but the idea from @bakodads about how Bato hit a growth spurt when he was away on a long fishing trip, I believe in that so hard. I used the photo from the post to draw my thing , the link to it is below ⬇️. (I think this is my first time using a sketch as line art ???)

On Zuko’s next birthday, after the war, the Gaang throws him a party. People start giving him gifts but the only thing Aang gives him is a hand made card in an envelope. It reads:
To my Great-Grandson on his 17th birthday. It’s an Honor to watch you grow into such a Bright young man.
Three brass pieces fall out of the envelope and Aang uses his old man voice to say, “Don’t spend it all in one place, son.”

We all agree that between the two of them Hakoda loves animals and Bato always has to stop him from adopting anything that moves, but I also think Bato likes animals, he just... doesn’t know how to interact with them???? so he just talks to them like they’re whole ass adult people
Like momo will steal some jerky from their supplies and fly up to a tree and Bato would just stand at the bottom like “young MAN i don’t think that is safe for lemurs can you please return the Meat Snack”

The Impressions Fire Can Have
For Bakoda Fleet Week: Young | Old Wounds
Hakoda searches for words. The tent walls gently ripple in the evening breeze as he watches Bato’s eyes, normally cool and stalwart, meet his own with uncertainty.
NSFW: Just to be safe, because it’s a little spicy but nothing explicit.
Listen man idk how to come up with titles
The scent of smoke lingers in Hakoda’s hair. The smell is like home and like the farthest thing from it; like peaceful evenings and forests cleared to ashes; like nights in their youth, huddled close around a fire, when Bato would not let himself watch the way the glow of the flames danced on his friend’s sharp features; like now, when Bato finally allows himself to drink in Hakoda’s presence, slowly grazing a hand through familiar, thick hair, and down the line of his spine.
Moments like this were few and far between. The two had left for their tent early after a hard day. It was after days like this one that Hakoda most craved intimacy, in whatever form it came in. Some days it took the form of gentle touches, wordless reassurances that came so naturally between them so that wandering ears in nearby tents couldn’t hear. Massages to sore necks or the mindless tracing of hands over strong fingers and weathered faces. Bato would look into those eyes and see the same youthful mischief and integrity he had always seen there, no matter how deep the lines ran around them.
Some days it took the form of searing kisses full of promise and marks left on collarbones. Wordless, but not quiet, acts of cataloguing and grounding one another in details; how Bato’s breath would hitch when hands traveled up his legs, or how Bato could feel the shift of Hakoda’s muscles under the brace of his hands. Clothes would be discarded feverishly, one man backed into a tree and the other not giving a damn about the indecency of the moment.
Tonight sat somewhere in between. The fingers at the base of Hakoda’s spine travel forward along the ridge oh his hip, and hesitate on his abdomen. The gentle, teasing fingers turn into the warm pressure of a splayed hand as Hakoda feels Bato sigh. The two are nearly touching front to front, and Hakoda has to lean back to properly look at Bato’s face. Bato’s eyes are trained on the scar he sees there.
Hakoda searches for words. The tent walls gently ripple in the evening breeze as he watches Bato’s eyes, normally cool and stalwart, meet his own with uncertainty.
Holding his gaze, Hakoda reaches for the hand on his stomach and guides the hands to the edge of the mangled skin there, tracing the scar with Bato’s hands and watching as Bato observes how to touch him there- in a way that didn’t involve fresh bandages and a lot of nagging. He draws his own hand away, and watches as the long digits stroke and dance with more confidence.
He returns the gesture by tracing up Bato’s arm as he touches him, navigating the mottled and rough skin with much more familiarity. He wants to show him that touching his scar felt the same as it did for Bato. He follows the massive old burn up to his shoulder, over to where it lightly splashes up his neck, and down to his chest. He ghosts a finger over the area just under his pectoral, and smirks when it elicits a shiver.
“You used to have a little scar there.” Hakoda murmurs softly, his voice rough from lack of use. It must have been covered up as the skin healed into a new scar.
The hand on his own injury travels down to his thigh. “From that time I climbed around on that unfinished boat and dropped straight to the bottom.” He said, the low timbre of his voice resonating between them in just the way that makes Hakoda’s heart leap.
Eyes drift to each other’s mouths. “We were both young and stupid then.” Hakoda comments, only half paying attention to what was coming out of his mouth. Bato hums in agreement and presses a quick kiss to the other’s lips. Hakoda follows the retreat of his mouth, feeling that the contact was much too short.
Bato tucks a braid behind his love’s ear. The scent of smoke lingers in Hakoda’s hair. The smell is like home and like the farthest thing from it. Bato is intoxicated. “I much prefer us being middle- aged and stupid.” He murmurs before giving Hakoda what he wants, joining their lips again and gently guiding Hakoda to lie on his back beneath him.
