In the test site i installed the paper hats on the board by using panel pins. The hopes were the hats would just hang on the edge of the nail, this wasnt the case. I did however find a solution, white tac!
The white tac was the easiest solution and the most adaptable option at the time. It did the job tho and nothing fell of the wall the whole time the peice was up. I decided this method worked so well that i would just use it for the degree show, why mess if it works.
I really visually enjoyed the look of the installation, the regimented look of the rows echoed the repetitive nature of the artwork.
The hat on the floor also went down well with the audience, people enjoyed building the hat and laughed together, enjoying the experience of taking part.

Final Thoughts
The promotion module has gave me alot to think about, in the way of insurance as an artist where to get funds and how to promote your shows and yourself.
I think my best option for insurance would be to join a union, this way you get insured and also have the guidence starting out as a new artist.
Its great to see that there are options for funding and orginisations thatvare able to help get projects off the ground.
Going forward joining a union and looking at funding options is something im interested in. I think this will be the best way to get my art out there, i also have been looking at independent exhabitions.
This would allow me the freedom to do what i want with my work, having both means i will be able to show work as i like but also having funding means i can build a network of people in the artistic world.

Funding is also something that is a great way to get your art out there with the help and support of others. The Creative Scotland offer the opportunity to be funded fpr your art projects, in trust woth the national lottery.
Their funding is split into 3 categories:
OPEN FUNDING
Freelance and self-employed artists and creative practitioners living in Scotland who are at least 18 years old can apply.
You can apply for between £500 and £100,000.
There are no deadlines for this fund – you can apply year-round.
REGULAR FUNDING
Regular Funding provides stable support for a range of organisations and consortia across Scotland who make an important contribution to the development of the arts, screen and creative industries, enabling them to plan and deliver activities over a 3-year period.
TARGETED FUNDING
support specific activities and development needs in an art form, specialism, or place. Examples include funds allocated by the Scottish Government for specific purposes

Artists union
The Scottish Artists Union and what they provide.
The offer:
1)Free product and punlic liability insurance
2)Half an hour legal advise feom a solicitors
3) Access to a network of advise, guidance and even help with nagotiations and payment disputes
You can become a member of the union for £72.00 a year.
You can pay £6.00 a month but have to pay for your first 3 months upfront. I think this is a reasonable amount of money to pay to be insured and also have access to advise and guidance.

Evaluation 2
My intentions with promotion were to come up with a cohesive set of posters/business cards and become more active on my artists Instagram. I felt this was a good step in the right direction as it would allow for me to have a recognisable brand for my work and allow for me to engage with my audience in both on online and face to face way. Covering all bases like this means that I’m able to promote myself in the most proactive way.
The promotion module and the weekly discussions we had really helped me understand the amount of work that goes in to promoting an event behind the scenes. Such as making posters to advertise the event, as well as going door to door personally inviting other student with invitations. I think that personally inviting people was a good step to take as it meant they got to meet us beforehand, taking any uncertainty out of the event and we were able to make personal connections with the other artists around the college.
The distribution of my own posters around town will hopefully encourage people to follow my social media, I also created a QR code to make it simple for people to be taken straight to my artists Instagram. When they get to the Instagram my hopes are that they follow bit any exposure is great, even if that is just referring it on to a friend.
In regards to the round table event the way we choose to interact with our audience as such, was to keep things really informal. We done this by preparing question beforehand and then turning them into paper aeroplanes. We hoped that the questions would be less daunting if not directly asked to one person, having each question become a small discussion itself. The flying of the paper planes was a great way to break the ice among the group, it also allowed for a bit of a different experience and hopefully one people would want to participate in again.
I think this worked as a concept as the participants seemed to enjoy them self’s and all participated in the discussion. Overall, the round table went to plan and each person there was thankful and seemed to take something away from the experience, which is all you can ask for.
The install and de-install of the work also went to plan and no major incidents happened. All install methods were able to be rectified with no issue. This made this exhibition a great experience and made me feel that I was ready for degree. I do know that not all exhibitions will go this smoothly but it did give me confidence in my work install for degree.
The use of the excel spread sheet and the padlet also made everything easy to stay on top of, planning wise. This was what made the installation so smooth and is definitely something I will do for future installations, especially in group settings.

Posters
My posters are also modeled after the buissness cards, being larger and more eye catching. I think when promoting your self its good to have a cohesive look to your brand/buissness.
The posters were stuck aroimd the town in the main city. This was to get my details out to as many passers by as possible. I hoped that the almost novelty size of the train ticket and the familiar imagery would make people want to stop and look.
The poster is mainly to just get people to go to my Instagram and have my details. I think these days it is important to have an online presence.

Buissness Cards
As my project for the test install site were my paper hats, i decided to model my buissness cards after them. The hats are made from train tickets, so i made my own tickets featuring my details and a QR code to my artist Instagram.
The stand is made from a deconstructed paper hat cut in half, i think as my project is all about folding paper, that to make everything coherent only folded paper should be used.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The buissness cards are not your usual buissness card size and are made from printer paper not card.
I know this might be unconventional but i think it works for the concept, the buissness cards resemble the real train tickets you get on the trains. It makes them diffrent from your usual buissness people are used to getting. I hope this unique feature will make them more memorable/interesting.

Above pictured is the map of the test site and the paper aeroplane questions we had for our round table.
The map is not high tech but it is an easy way to document the space whilst in it. This meant we were able to alocate spaces dependent on the nature of the work. Each person was able to display their work as planned and as a team we got on rather well, lending hands with eachothers install ans discussing constantly about the flow of the space.
The paper aeroplanes were pre disscussed questions such as:
Art or money?
What does art mean to you?
Etc.
These questions were used as prompts for the round table discussion, the aeroplanes were a great way to break the ice and keep the disscussion flowing and natural.

Above are the test sight poster and the invitations.
The yellow posters had all the relivent information and the colour helped draw the eye. We stuck them up around the college to inform people of where and when the round table would be held as well as where the artwork was.
The flyer with the rose, echoed the yellow in the poster, this made a connection between the 2 flyers. The invites were given to other creative industries students and stuck to the doors of the classes that werent in the day we handed them out, this was to try and get as many attendees as possible.

Artist Statment for the work in the install
Through out the year I’ve been trying to understand my self better as an artist and I have come to realise that I enjoy making/experiencing participatory work. With my degree show I’ve tried to incorporate this, with the interactive fabric hat. This project has a strong focus on the repetitive nature of actions also. This is shown by the display of paper train ticket hats, hats I have been making religiously through out the academic year. My hopes for this show is to immerse the audience in a shared experience, having them interact with the art and each other.

Evaluation 1
In this module, I hope to promote myself using varied methods. I plan on doing this following research I have undertaken in promoting yourself both in person and online. I have done this already by having an active artist Instagram, where I hope my work reaches its desired audience, through using relative hashtags to push engagement with the people who want to see this kind of post. I also include vague hashtags, that still relate to the work, to again push my posts to maybe more unsuspecting users.
I have also been making business cards and posters to delve into a more in-person approach. Physically having a business card in your pocket or wallet, I find may be a more effective way to have a member of the public engage with your work, rather than being lost in their online algorithm. The business cards themselves resembling small works of art, make the public more likely to engage, either by taking a card or even having a conversation about the cards themselves. Causing a more personal interaction and an imprinted memory of that moment. As my work is participatory-based a lot of the time, I feel this is a connection that is important to the advertisement of my work.
Posters can be an eye-catching way to interact with the public, either reliant on placement or the sheer plastering of information to get your name out there and allow the public to engage with your work on a daily basis.
Canva is a marvellous way to create quick, clean and eye-catching posters and business cards, even on the free version. This has allowed me to create marketing materials without having to spend too much on overheads.
Having a personal marketing plan will in turn push towards achieving goals, whether in engagement online or in person. Promotion can include networking with other creatives and being active in creative spaces and events. This will put a face to the name essentially and create that personal interaction with other artists, clients or investors who are already active in these spaces.
Collaborating with other artists is also another way to promote yourself, having work created by a group means that more people and platforms are promoting what you're working on and generally leads to more engagement from different audiences, allowing the work or advertisement for the work to be seen by more people.
Having a strong brand image or identity creates space for engagement with your target audience if a brand doesn't have appeal then the audience is less inclined to engage.
My focus for after the academic year is to be this proactive artist in these spaces, I have chosen to wait on going ahead with a more face-to-face approach till I have more time. I feel this is the most professional thing I can do at the minute as I want to fully embrace this experience and allow for networking to happen and I can't do that if I don't have the time to dedicate to creating these connections.

Qr codes
A QR code brings the digital to the real world, it allows for people to be able to access thing quickly and efficiently. It can provide a link to a webpage, account or even let you access online documents.
They can provide a way for you to market yourself, leading customer to a website or a product directly.

Business Cards
Here are some articles about the benifits of business cards
Some people would say that buisness cards are outdated, i personally think it is still a great way to have an accessible thing with your information.
I still feel this is a professional way to give interested clients your information, with the intoduction of QR codes, you are able to include an easy way for customers to find your socials and website.

Possible future exhabition spaces
Many Studios- Pros and Cons
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It is located in the barralands which is a place which gets alot of foot traffic.
This is perfect for an exhabition as it means that people can come in off the street.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The space itself is well light and has lots of potential floor space and walls. They are also able to accommodate for chairs and tables.
Capacity-
16 boardroom
40 theatre style
70 standing
Tumblr media Tumblr media
As you can see it lools like theres plenty of space to move around with the artworks installed. The site also comes with high speed wifi, the use of a projector and screen as well as a duty manager to make sure things run smoothly.
This is something the salt space does not provide, but it comes at an extra cost. Standard rates are £150 for a half day hire.
This is maybe worth it just for the helping hand from the duty manager and the foot traffic the barras gets, especially on the weekends.
Tumblr media
You are also able to rent a studio in the building. They range from 100-800. As i am just now I would not be able to afford a 800 pound studio, but i may be able to for the lower end of the budget.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You are also put on a waiting list. As and when studios become available ypu will be contacted. The studios look cozy and have a real community feel to them, i think this would be great for knowledge exchange between artists.

Posters as advertisment
Advantages-
1. Reach your target audience easier
2. It is a cheaper method
3. Encourages and active response
The main things to keep in mind is to have a simple design reconisable to the event and/or artist. Its important to communicate the information in the most effective way, as a poster dosent have much space, things such as socials, dates, name of event and images. These are the things you want to get to your audience.

Possible future exhabition spaces
SALTSPACE Pros and Cons
Tumblr media
I like that they have a focus on graduate artists and want to help up and coming artist get in to the gallery space. This provides experience for artists and a taste of what exhibiting independently and/or as a geoup could be like.
Tumblr media
The space is a place for many diffrent artist, you can become a resident with the gallery and also exhibit by becoming a member.
They also accommodate to charity events and local organisation.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is there location on the map amd a pictire of the oitside of the building. As you can see it is a unassuming outside. It was not the easiest place to find and when visiting a fellow clasmates exhabition.
We actually got quite lost as there are diffrent entrances to the building. The gallery space is up a few floors and wasnt sign poster very well inside or out.
I think this is something that they could work on as it may turn away potential viewers of the exhabition.
Tumblr media
This is the space inside. The space is rather small although they do provide you with the keys to the space and give you quite alot of freedom to install how you wish.
This makes the space more appealing to new artists in the industry as it means that you are still able to experiment with installing and your practice.
Tumblr media
When exhibiting in the space you are soley responsible for install and opening night. They are able to provide a small amount of equiptment such as a small tv set, install tools and some tables/chairs.
It might not come with all the bells and whistles so to say, it dose provide freedom for the artist tho which i think is invaluable.
It will ultimately help the artist understand responsibility for their work and the spaces that they exhibit in.
Tumblr media
As an new artist i think this is a reasonable amount of money to pay for a gallery space, paying for the space gives you the chance at exposure and experience. Knowing that the money goes back into the community and space, so other artists can have the same opportunity, is something i think we need more of. Artist should be supporting other artists.
