Seiza Marebito, was at first just a pun/joke for me when I first started playing FFXIV. A running gag for me is that, my nickname is Star, but all of my muses are somehow related to the MOON, instead, so I wanted a character actually relating to my name.

So because I am a weeb, I was like, “oh let me look for a cute star relating name in Japanese” and hence I came upon seiza which is constellation; star sign; zodiac sign or the sitting position of kneeling down on your knees and sitting on your feet–

And then Marebito…there was a character in my favorite otome game, he’s a “God” and his name was Marebito. He was hot so “why not”. 

Then, recently I started to look at the kanji both in Japanese and Chinese to make sure that they are the same meaning/symbols and they are! 

So name meaning, 稀人星座 ( Marebito Seiza ), ends up “rare constellation” which is fitting because Seiza is the Warrior of Light and Hydaelyn’s chosen. 

But then I look at her clan name, Marebito, and there was a lot more meaning to it than I realize. 

Marebito ​is an ancient Japanese word referring to a ‘divine being’ who comes from afar bringing gifts of wisdom, spiritual knowledge and happiness.

Yet again, fitting for the Warrior of Light that came from “elsewhere”. I’ll make another post about Seiza’s clan.

So, TLDR:

My WOL’s name can literally mean “divine constellation being bearing gifts from afar”. 

AHAHA….I played myself 4 years later.

Sometimes I sit here and think about Seiza’s personality because she’s interesting but at the same time, I just tilt my head like “How did you became like this” and at first I was like, “oh maybe it’s because I made her into a sheltered rich girl” but that’s not really the case the more I expanded her personality and did small private interactions to really get her fleshed out as a person. However the best answer to this is that Seiza is merely “ignorant”. It isn’t that she doesn’t know the issues regarding Eozera and the other nations as a whole but it was more of the fact that it doesn’t truly “relate” to her as she was born in Kugane which is more on a neutral side regarding all of the politics.
