Cody defects and finds himself where all depressed outlaws end up (Tatooine). He picks up odd jobs, maybe an off book bounty or two. Mostly just junk collecting since he can't be on the books and showing his face is dangerous. He's doing some scrap salvage in the desert one day and his metal detector goes off.

He takes out his shovel and digs and finds a box with two lightsabers.

Familiar lightsabers.

Cody always did have luck finding Obi-Wan's missing saber.

Certain facts of the galaxy are immutable: snow will always fall upon the mountaintops of Alderaan, aiwhas will always nest in the most inconvenient of places, and marshal commander Cody of the 212th will always be by the side of jedi Master Kenobi. Nothing, short of Obi-Wan himself asking him to leave, could ever change that.

He's been good enough at ignoring it, mostly, but when Obi-Wan is invited to a Senate ball and asks to bring Cody as a plus-one, he suddenly finds that his rising feelings for his general might not quite be as easy to suppress as he'd hoped...

Cal stared ahead as the others bantered, a wave of nausea washing over him. He felt that if he tensed his jaw any further, it might snap.

They were going to be using escape pods.
