I've heard it repeatedly said by now that despite Min-woo's awful behaviour, he's actually the only one who sees her as strong, that he sees Young-woo as his equal.

I strongly disagree.

Min-woo doesn't see Young-woo as an equal adversary.

That implies inherent respect for her abilities.

He sees her as a threat and is jealous of every kindness shown to her.

YES, Min-woo doesn't infantalize Young-woo, BUT he dehumanizes her.

He doesn't want anyone to protect Young-woo or give her grace to adjust to the workplace at her own pace NOT because he thinks she doesn't need it. But because he's scared that she would become even stronger because of it.

And to his mind, the woman who should have been eliminated from the competition because of her disability but is now actively threatening his chances at bagging a permanent position at Hanbada, should not get any more help or kindness. Because her existence at his own level is an inherent unfairness.

So, in no world is this respect for Young-woo's strengths.

And Joon-ho, Soo-young, or the senior attorney being kind to Young-woo is NOT pity.

They all know she's incredible.

Each of them is careful to only step in and help Young-woo in the things that she struggles with. Like Soo-young opening bottles for her.

All of us need friends who notice our weaknesses and quietly help us. That's not disrespect or somehow failing to acknowledge our strengths. It's caring shown through actions.

So, please stop confusing Min-woo's apathy as respect.

That man-child is the one who doesn't need anyone defending him.

The thing about men like Min Woo is that they have a fundamental misunderstanding of what fairness looks like. They feel entitled to everyone's time and energy and attention. And when they see someone else getting more of anything than them they see it as some form of discrimination. It doesn't matter to him that Young Woo is far superior at the actual job than him, because he believes a disabled person shouldn't hold such a position he thinks it's discriminatory for her to get a second chance at the position at all. Even if someone told him outright that as the most qualified candidate her being rejected the first time based solely on her autism was the real discrimination he wouldn't be able to comprehend it because in his mind she's weak and inferior and simply doesn't deserve the same level of common fucking decency as him. And he fully believes he's the one in the right, that he's the disadvantaged one here. The fact that everyone knows at least fice Min Woos in their life says a lot about how our society works and none of it good.

Kwon Minwoo trying to simultaneously claim Youngwoo is a strong savvy competitor who is a real threat to him and therefore he's justified in playing dirty to beat her AND ALSO AT THE SAME TIME she's an unqualified pity hire who only got her job due to nepotism and corruption like my brother in cripes you cannot have it both ways
