Skin Tightening ranked #1 non-surgical treatment.
Skin Tightening Ranked #1 Non-Surgical Treatment
These are exciting times for anyone wanting to preserve their youthful appearance. Not only are non-invasive technologies able to satisfy patient demand, they have the ability to meet/exceed patient expectations.
According to a recent ASAPS * survey, surgical procedures are up by 17% and nonsurgical procedures up 44%. These stats come as no surprise….whether driven by an aging population, social media or the Kardashians, youth has become a desired commodity. Men & women of all ages and ethnicities are investing in themselves.
Interestingly, the 2015 survey* highlights the highest growth treatments between 2014 -2015, citing Non-Surgical Skin Tightening up by 58% , followed by procedures as detailed below:
Tattoo Removal (up 39%) Microdermabrasion (up 34%) Buttock Lifts (up 32%) Male Breast Reduction (Gynecomastia up 26%)
Given predictable outcomes and “zero/little downtime benefits”, it is no surprise non-surgical skin tightening is as popular as it is.
Non-Surgical Skin Tightening is a great option if you have:
mild-moderately loose skin on your face, neck or decolte.
would like to improve overall elasticity and density.
notice you are losing the definition along the jaw line.
chest area is showing wrinkles, vertical lines or poor texture.
choose not to undergo surgery to correct skin laxity.
The evolution of Non-Surgical Skin Tightening Devices:
As an aesthetic nurse and medspa owner, I’ve had the opportunity to witness the evolution of “skin tightening”. Looking back as early as 2002, devices such as Accent™ RF and Thermage™ were revolutionary, paving the way for their successors. However, as with most technologies, science & further engineering have allowed for “new and improved” options.  Now, in 2016, Ultherapy™, is arguably one of the most effective devices in the skin tightening category.
Ultherapy™ (Health Canada & FDA approved) delivers micro-focussed ultrasound at precision depths, in turn triggering the production of fresh, new collagen. What patients love most, are the natural looking results that Ultherapy™ can produce - helping rebuild the tissue at a foundational level. One never has to worry about “looking done”.
Treatments can include the entire face or focus on smaller zones such as the eye area, mouth area, jawline, neck or decolte. An assessment is done to discuss what might be the best approach and the best device(s) for any given situation.
Procedures that compliment skin tightening:
Understanding that no single anti-aging concern stands alone, it is common for the same person that is a skin tightening candidate, to also benefit from add-on treatments such as Infini™, Fraxel™ or Pixel™, IPL, Micro-needling or Fractional RF.  Such modalities can address secondary concerns related to texture and overall tone of the skin.  By treating with complimentary modalities, patients can also realize added improvements in fine lines wrinkles, acne scars, stretch marks, pore size, pigmentation and fine lines.

Exfoliation Treatments for Your Skin Exfoliation is a great way to rejuvenate our skin. The key to skin rejuvenation – whether it is mechanical exfoliation, chemical exfoliation or microneedling – is to maintain the health of skin structures and stimulate cellular renewal. There are a variety of treatments and devices available and it’s important to know which one is right for you. Following are four of the most popular methods used today.
Microdermabrasion
This popular treatment involves mechanically exfoliating the superficial layers of the skin using crystals or an abrasive diamond tipped tool.
This effective form of skin rejuvenation will help with thicker epidermis, superficial pigmented lesions and non-inflamed forms of acne. Although microdermabrasion has its place in skin care, it is not always the best choice for all skin types.  It should never be used on inflamed conditions of the skin, including rosacea or acne vulgaris.

CO2 Laser Resurfacing for Acne Scars One of the most effective treatments for patients with acne scars is the CO2 Fractional Laser.  C02 Laser resurfacing uses small columns of fractionated energy to ablate areas of damaged skin. Tiny wounds are made and the surrounding healthy skin helps with healing.
When the skin heals, it produces new collagen and the new skin is smoother, tighter and with less irregular pigmentation and scarring.
Although laser resurfacing can be very dramatic it is important for acne scar patients to realize that severe scarring can require multiple treatments. Many patients are satisfied with a single treatment while others benefit from a series of laser treatments. Recently, our medical assistant Kelly had a CO2 done for her acne scars. Here's what she has to say about her experience:
"I am one of those “lucky” people who suffer from acne scaring since my school days. Anyone that knows me knows how much my scars have affected me and make me feel insecure.  I was a chicken at first about getting the CO2 done but finally decided to go through with it and I wish I would of done this years ago. The first week I was very red and did not want to be seen in public, but it got better every day. By week 2 I was able to start wearing makeup. Now I am at week 3, very happy with my results, and feeling much more confident about the way that I look. I would definitely recommend this treatment to anyone" - Kelly, Boise
Fractional CO2 resurfacing can erase years and dramatically improve the appearance of scars, wrinkles and pigment, but it is not a lunchtime procedure. Downtime can be anywhere from several days to up to 2-weeks. During the healing process, the new skin is red and very dry at first, then pink then heals back to normal.

Body Contouring or Fat Loss,  If someone really wants to change the shape and contour of their body liposuction still reigns supreme. In fact in 2015 it was the most requested cosmetic procedure according to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. This minimally invasive procedure breaks down and removes fat immediately from the body and results are often pretty dramatic. It can make someone look like they lost 10-15 pounds. Downside is that you will have to wear a compression garment for up to two weeks and healing does take time.
