Kickstarter Campaign Closed - Moving Forward
Hello everyone
I'm sad to say that unfortunately the crowdfunding campaign for The Rhino and the Oxpecker animated pilot has not reached its goal and will not be funded. To give a bit of closure I just want to write down my thoughts, go over with my followers how I will be moving forward with this project, and outline what you can expect from me in the future.
To start, I want to say how grateful I am for all the support I've received these past few weeks. Most animated shorts barely scrape past $100, but including outside investments, we managed to reach $6000! Even though we didn't hit the goal, I want everyone to know how much I appreciate that people out there are interested in my work and are willing to take a chance on it.
I knew going into this that it was going to be a long shot getting the funding. I don't have a particularly big following on social media, and selling people on a story without completely giving away the whole story is definitely not easy. I took a chance on this having just finished my last animated short, and I gambled on the hope that it would make a bigger splash then it did. Looking back there are things I would have done differently, maybe tried to do more physical rewards and such, but hindsight it 20/20. I'm a bit disappointed in myself as I feel I could have done better, and I know a lot of my followers were looking forward to this so I hope I haven't let them down.
Moving forward though, I will say that this project is not dead. This crowdfunding campaign has given me a lot of valuable information on what people do and don't want when it comes to media, and I plan on using it to reevaluate how I approach things. This idea hasn't died yet, I do plan on revisiting it in the future in a more feasible way. I am open to ideas from followers about other ways of bringing these characters to life, and am always happy to hear them if any of you ever felt like shooting me a message.
For now though I will be focusing on smaller art projects that help pay the rent. So even though I won't be making this short, you can still expect plenty of new art and animation from me!
And on a note completely unrelated to the fact that my big financial endeavour did not pan out, if any of you want illustration or animation commissions, feel free to direct message me on Twitter or email me at [email protected]
You can follow me on twitter for more art and regular updates: https://twitter.com/ArtOfAlexH
Thanks again for following me on this journey, and even though it didn't end the way I wanted it to, I am still grateful to have found so many great people who have taken an interest in my work. I hope you will continue along with me with my future projects.
- Alex

After people saw my Bubba sketch I got a few requests to do a similar one for Nestor, so I did this as a cool down drawing last night

So I hear Spyro is coming back, and I felt like sketching one of the characters, so here's Bubba from the recent trailer. I also threw in a work in progress gif to show how it gets made

This was an early walk cycle animation I did to test the functionality of the rig. This walk does appear in the final short, but has been modified for a specific camera angle/situation

More rough (and unrendered) animation. Getting the rig to work like this was a real challenge
