We Came As Romans + Crown The Empire Spring 2019 Tour
We Came As Romans and Crown The Empire have hit the road this spring. I was lucky enough to catch them at their Chicago date at the House of Blues on April 11th!
Tumblr media
Unfortunately, I missed the first band of the night, Shvpes. I was able to photograph Erra and they were so good! The Alabama band put their all into the performance. They played songs such as Hourglass, Signal Fire, and Rebirth.
Tumblr media
We Came As Romans kicked their set off with two songs from their latest album, Cold Like War. Then, they played fan favorite, Tracing Back Roots. This set was especially emotional without co-vocalist, Kyle Pavone, but the bandmates carried on the set gracefully, being sure to stop and give remembrance to him often.
Tumblr media
Just as WCAR did, Crown The Empire came out on stage and played a new song, Sudden Sky. Then, they immediately took the crowd back to the old days of the metalcore band by playing The Fallout and Memories of a Broken Heart. Middle school me immediately started to get excited, as the rest of the crowd did. They then finished out their set energetically.
Be sure to catch these bands in a city near you while they’re still on tour! To see the photo gallery, click here.

Feel Nothing Tour
The Plot In You hit the road for their Feel Nothing Tour with the support of LIMBS, Like Moths to Flames, and Dayseeker! I had the chance to catch the talented bands when they rolled through Chicago at Subterranean.
Tumblr media
LIMBS started off the night strong! Their powerful songs set the bar for the night with Josh crowd surfing and all of the fun they had with their set. One of the things that I personally enjoyed about this Florida band is how they have fun with what they’re doing. Despite how passionate and heartfelt their music is, they were cracking jokes and messing with each other for the entire set. As a crowd member, it made the band that much more enjoyable to watch.
Tumblr media
Next up was Dayseeker. The quartet had one hell of a set! Vocalist Rory Rodriguez made the set personal and hit everyone’s hearts. One thing that I think this band does well is creating an atmosphere and aesthetic that is unique to them, and they carry it through each show. It was very apparent that night in Chicago!
Tumblr media
Second to last were long oldies but goodies, Like Moths To Flames. One thing that I loved about this tour that it was two bands that have started reaching to their fame within the past couple of years, and two bands that have been around for a very long time in the metalcore community. LMTF is one of those OG bands! The crowd went wild for every song, both old and new. One member I’d like to point out in particular that is extremely fun to watch is Aaron. There wasn’t one song he wasn’t smiling, dancing, and singing for. And he even did the same while setting up and tearing down between sets! And of course, Chris said the line, “let me see them clappies,” when telling the crowd to clap... we’re not sure why! Regardless, this band is always a staple.
Tumblr media
Lastly was an all time favorite of mine, The Plot In You. They started the set off strong with Rigged and ended with Feel Nothing. This band absolutely blew me away; they’re better live than they are recorded! The experience was unforgettable. They played a good mix of songs from each album, which was a good choice. The passion and emotion this band radiates when they play is something no one forgets!
If you have the chance to catch the bands while they’re still on tour, please do! It’s a night you won’t forget. To view the photo gallery, click here.

Set It Off Winter Tour 2019
Last night, I had the opportunity to shoot Set It Off’s stop on their winter tour in Chicago at the Metro and it was a blast! Super Whatevr kicked off the night with an emotional set. A little bit into their set, the vocalist stopped the music to give a heartfelt speech, guaranteed to touch everyone in the room and be one to remember. He told the story of how his cousin committed suicide and though it set a sad tone in the room, he used that to raise awareness for mental health. Next up was With Confidence with an energetic set. They got the room prepared for Set It Off with their dancing and Australian touches. Not to mention how fun it was to have them in front of the camera! Last up was Set It Off. The crowd cheered as they came on and not a person in the room wasn’t singing during their time on stage. The room was filled with dancing, sweaty bodies. All joined together to celebrate a special band! Each band was a pleasure to shoot and they all posses unique talents. Check out their music! To see more photos, I urge you to click this link and take a look at my blog post!

Tumblr media

Riot Fest 2018 Review
Riot Fest 2018 was one for the books! As a first-time goer, this experience was one to remember. The festival itself had a unique feel and fans from all over the country filled the park, eager to spend the weekend seeing their favorite bands. Packed with various fair rides, fair food, and a Circus Sideshow, fans were never bored. There was always something to do, not just for punk fans, but for everyone.
Day one kicked off with a great set from The Front Bottoms. Watching a band go from playing tiny venues, to playing main stage at Riot Fest was humbling. Their set was filled with lots of emotions and good times. Next up was Bleachers. If you’re looking for a band that makes you feel like you’re in the middle of an indie film, this is it. The New Jersey based band is perfect for dancing with friends and having a good time. The guys put on one of the most energetic shows of the weekend. Last for day one was Weezer. Weezer is a classic from any millennial’s childhood, and it was easily one of the biggest crowds of the weekend. The band performed originals, both new and old, and covers such as Africa by Toto and Blink-182′s All The Small Things. They closed up the night with a bang.
Day two was a chill day spent sitting on a blanket and watching bands such as Twin Peaks. This was a relaxing way to take a break from all the crowd chaos.
Day three was the last of the days, and the craziest of them all. First one the list was Bullet For My Valentine. They put on a lively set, filled with crowd surfers and mosh pits. Next was Underoath, a band that everyone loves. They brought the crowd to life by playing old songs and new songs from their latest release, Erase Me. They put on a strong performance and at the end, vocalist Spencer Chamblerlain gave a heart-warming and encouraging speech about mental health and addiction. Ending the festival was The Wonder Years. This pop punk band brought the heat with a big crowd and lots of emotions. The Wonder Years is a must-see.
Overall, Riot Fest was an absolute blast. This punk rock festival was one of a kind and every fan is looking forward to the future years of what the festival holds.

Show Review: With Roots Above And Branches Below 10 Year Anniversary Tour
Tumblr media
Ten years ago, The Devil Wears Prada released an album called With Roots Above And Branches Below. Some may say it’s not, but it’s definitely one of their best and most influential albums they’ve released. This year, they decided to do a tour in support of the anniversary of that album. Fit For A King and ‘68 are supporting them on this run. We had the chance to check out the show here in Detroit, MI and it was insane. Check out more below.
Opening the night was Atlanta, GA based duo ’68. From the moment drummer Michael McClellan walked out on stage and began with an ever so infectious beat, to the last strum of Josh Scogin’s guitar, they brought one hell of a party. Every single song they played flowed so well straight into the next one. The energy that vocalist Scogin and McClellan share on stage is wild. ’68 is by far one of the most well put together duo’s to ever exist.
Tumblr media
Fit For A King took the stage shortly after and blew everyone in the audience away. They opened their set with “The Price Of Agony” off of their most recent release, Dark Skies. They were band two of three for the night, and the crowd went hard. They matched the crowds' energy and went just as hard the entire duration of their set. Ending their set with “Tower of Pain,” another new song of Dark Skies, made the crowd go wild. That song is by far one of the heaviest off of the album and it was a perfect way to go to out.
Tumblr media
Moments before the lights went out and The Devil Wears Prada took the stage it got very quiet. It was almost as if everyone just wanted a moment of silence, and then all at once, everyone broke out into chanting “Prada! Prada! Prada! Prada!” Opening the set with their Julien Baker cover, “Sour Breath” couldn’t have been a better choice. Before they got into why everyone was really there, they played a few other songs like “Born to Lose” and “Worldwide.” When the band went into “Sassafras,” the first track off of With Roots Above And Branches Below,  the entire venue was off their feet, throwing each other across the pit, launching people over the barricade left and right. (Special shoutout to St. Andrews security for being absolutely incredible all the time). With it being the 10-year anniversary tour, everyone knew what they were in for. Knowing that they hadn’t really ever fully played “Lord Xenu” live before, that was the most exciting part of the night. At one point during the night, vocalist Mike Hranica gave praise to the fans in Michigan for always being so supportive and sticking around and being all around great people. It was just an awesome night to be a fan of this band.

Last Friday night was spent capturing the Private Room Tour at the Bottom Lounge in Chicago, IL and it was a blast! The night started off with Varials, a hardcore band from Pennsylvania. They kicked the show off with a fun, energetic set. The Pennsylvania band is still a small band, but they know how to put on a show. Next up was Have Mercy. Their set was filled with all the feels, as their set was a rather emotional set. Anyone who listens to Have Mercy can expect to cry when they see them live, but it’s a good cry! Third to last was another emotional set from Being As An Ocean. I have seen them three times and I can most definitely say that they are one of the most moving bands I have ever seen. Their light show was amazing, as well! Last was Counterparts. With another energetic set, the long set was worth every minute! Counterparts is another band that never fails to put on a show. The crowd never stopped moving and the band went hard. The Private Room Tour was intimate, and very much so fun. Thanks for a good night! You can view more photos here.
