Today is Art Deco Day so all y'alls get a Tumblr formatted mega-post. My 2012 photos of Chicago's Carbide & Carbon Building (now The Pendry Hotel). As you can see from the extreme close up ones, the building is dark green, not black like some folks think. It was intentionally shaped & colored to look like a corked champagne bottle.

I love it when two things I love but are way not related collide with each other. Case in point: I Art Deco (duh) and I love Industrial & Deathrock music; this is Lead into Gold's 12" single for Idiot/Blackened Heart, Hatred on legendary Wax Trax Records. This is (and still is Paul Barker's project). Paul is best known as the bass player for Ministry & Revolting Cocks back in their heyday. The Art Deco album art are from two Chicago Bridges. One bridge with the female subject, if sketchy sources are correct, is the Ogden Bridge, which was totaled in 1994 (this single came out in 1990). The Ashland Avenue bridge is still there but google maps doesn't show any artwork anywhere. The artist for both is Scipione del Campo, who did many other Chicagoland pieces in the same style.

There's probably a bunch in Cheyenne, Wyoming that needs rediscovered, but the biggest, most obvious, example I can think of is this Railway bridge, probably built as part of the Lincoln Highway. Around the corner of Lincolnway (old highway 30) and Westland Road.
It's fairly generic except it has large fans on both concrete pillars.
That is pretty great. The overpass on Happy Jack Road looks so basic down the rails a bit.

Legend has it that there are around 30 totally different clocks at Bullock鈥檚 Wilshire/Southwestern Law School. Some floors are off limits to the public 馃挴% of the time, so who knows if they鈥檒l all be documented anytime in our lifetime. 馃摳:me
