Born in Cookeville TN, raised in Caracas, Venezuela.  I now live & work in Salt Lake City, Utah.  ​I was born January 5th, 1978 in Cokeville, TN, but at the age of 4 years old, my family and I moved to Venezuela.  There I was exposed to the traditional art of the country, which was always more interesting to me than the fine arts.  I went to college to be a graphic designer, but soon I found out that the working structure of graphic design companies was like working any other job (at least that was my experience).In 2000 I decided to move back to the States for personal reasons.  At that moment I realized that things are not easy when you are an immigrant in your own  country.  Because of my lack of English, I spent years doing jobs just to pay for rent and food, without realizing that I was killing the artist in myself.  I have never been trained as a professional artist.  I have taken classes here and there, and in my mid-twenties I decided to show my art for the first time.  This was a horrible experience, because my art was destroyed by critics and categorized as mediocre.  This "welcome" into the art community created a distance between art and me.  For almost 12 years I stopped painting, but the need to paint never left me.  Now at almost 40 years old I am painting again, and I have decided to never stop.  Art is energy, an energy that I need to go through life.  My art is in the naive style, and I try to emulate the energy of other artisis that are an influence to me.  I hope you enjoy my art and progress as I continue to learn and create.​                                                                                                                  Nestor Jimenez
