Looser au question - how does gil feel when he gets older about his dad and Ludwig?

thoughts on loser au

I feel like g/ermania is the type of dad who exerts a lot of control over his kids lives (his way of caring) so in this AU, even if Gilbert wanted to estrange himself bc he's ultimately not even living with his father, his father just exerts this intense control over his finances and life well into his twenties until he achieves financial independence lol. It's rocky.

I also feel like g/ermania is ultimately a very tolerant/patient/loving father but he has a tendency to explode suddenly, like he just snaps, gets overwhelmed and loses it and feels badly after. He really tries not to put his hands on his kids but Gilbert can be a lot to deal with. His intensity/aggressiveness clashes with G/ermania's stoicism and composure in a similar way R/ome can rile him up.

For Ludwig, I think there's the same level of resentment but affection that he has in the nation verse, a good relationship but not a perfect one. He's just glad the kid is around. Anyway makes me laugh to think of gilbert as a insta thot and outraging his family with his flagrant homoeroticism.

@june12-san that is too funny, technically, he is the most well adjusted in the AU then every other player so he's really just flipping everyone the bird in this au as he strives for freedom and independence

I wnat to do more but life is beating me up, but two things I thought were funny

1. Bran/Dietrich's eagerness to take in a teenage cousin because he's broke, G/ermania having ONE SOLE incident of his kid not behaving and being like get the fuck out of my house (but i made it sadder bc HRE being sick is something i like to see transfer into human Aus with ludwig)

2. During college days: Tolys being a crazy ex and checking Gil's phone when he was sleeping just so he can be a hater on his and Ivan's dramatic teenage breakup texts makes me laugh

I want to really flesh out my b/randenburg, but I need to draw and compile and think so I'll save some ideas for later. Loser AU overview for anyone who wants more.

care to share your preferences for how Gilbert is written👀

I'm tired to really go into it but it's like I'm flexible, I've always embraced the unique diversity this fandom allows us to have in our interpretations but there is a vibe that really tickles me that I look for because this is what I personally find fun and enjoy.

I just need him to be eccentric, stern, disruptive, loud, insolent, mischievous, chaotic neutral, unhinged and a bit insane. I play Gilbert very intensely, he's a guy who can function very well in society, yes, but I need it so that he is also a problem when he chooses to be. I need him to be a record scratch in a narrative, a head turner. He steps into a room and the whole energy shifts, he is a source of chaos and order at once, he takes command of a room and it is difficult to take it from him once he has it.

I want him to be concerning, disarming, constantly calculating, a guy who very is always reading the room, always examining you, poking and prodding for your weaknesses, for something to laugh at. I just need him to be A LOT, I want him to be sensitive and at times vulnerable but not too much so, I think his emotional state is volatile but not accessible for everyone's tampering. Prone to anger and to tears.

I always just want him to be naughty, incorrigible, a bad-ish person with a twisted morality but an underlying kindness that is inconsistent, unreliable but persistent, he knows when enough is enough. Capable of a human moment but you have to chip at a hard heart. Merciless but not compassionless. I need him to talk rough and rashly and be charming in a caustic way, terrible but lovable, worthy of pity, hate and affection at once.

In ships, I don't really like too much ease and fluff, I want whatever relationship he is in to have conflict and tension, because all relationships have conflict and tension. I don't care abotu the details but I need to see some struggle because he is like a belgian malinois of a boyfriend, that takes work because he has teeth and he likes to bite.

Does that make sense?? I need him to be a toxic mess, it doesn't matter the degrees or the detail, I just need to be taken for a ride.

I'm gonna be doing some B/randenburg P/russia doodles because @doomspiral enabled me so if you want to drop some headcanon or requests in the askbox, now is a good time. I'm leaning towards a theme of: dysfunction vs affection.

I think I might also be creating a comic master post and I'll link also to any AO3 drabbles that connect those ideas. BTW I still use APH tags because my blog is literally in its teenage years at this point and I don't have time to revamp it. I know there's a lot of old info/broken links, I will try to refresh soon.

Btw, while I am trying to re-connect more with the hetalia fandom, I don't tend to follow back if you're under 20 years old (there are some exceptions depending on blog use. If you are just running a gallery, I might) and I'm 30+ so keep that in mind.

I keep this blog Mostly SFW but can get into mature/dark themes. If you do not want to be exposed to those themes, mute the tag Knight Terrors. Also...please don't send me weird asks asking for odd things with the very young children I draw. I'm not sure what the intentions were with that, maybe I read it weirdly, but if I feel it is in anyway inappropriate, I'm not gonna draw it. I lean towards being pro-ship but absolutely not to that extent.

Also related, but G/ermania head-canon and stuff is primarily me having REALLY bad baby fever and not being a position for motherhood at this point in time. I do not care if you agree and I do not intend for it to be widely accepted fanon. I am only drawing to comfort myself. This is the last time I'm mentioning this lol.

Anyway: Hetalia twitter and Personal Tumblr where I reblog the fandom fanart I want to support. I use this blog to apply for cons and things sometimes so I have to keep it primarily focused on my art.

Thoughts

I know a lot of people hate the canon design but I love it lol, I think though it's fun to switch it up. I don't personally have anything against people who play with the canon designs but after a while familiarity to canon can be lost in the shuffle. It would be nice if Himaruya was better at character diversity but he's not lol. Anyhoo, im sure as an immortal nation, he chopped off his hair, grew his beard, shaved his beard etc and beyond a thousand times.

I wanted to draw another comic where he shaves his beard because he doesn't like that the idk "tension" of his face shifts from his lips/jaw to his eyes and he just looks like the world's saddest man with the beard.

I also laughed thinking about Gilbert bursting into tears at the sight of him with a beard bc little kids don't do well with major changes in a parents appearance.

Also while I'm here my HC for why Germania exists is that he has a function as HRE does and is a representation for a collection. I think each separate people of the german tribes had it's own representative that died out as the new generation was born. I like that draw that he's almost always with Gilbert and HRE because those two get sick and die like tinkerbell if they don't get enough attention.

I kinda maybe HC that he doesn't know what to do with Gilbert because he was born early and his people aren't a collection yet so he ends up carrying the brat everywhere he goes as he travels. anyway xoxo read my old germania disclaimer if this makes you soooo mad, anyway more to come
