My Favourite Designs from Monster Never Cry!
————————
Ok listen
As some people who are familiar with me know, I am a “computer scientist” of sorts. I’m graduating from university in a couple months, and basically I code and know how to do graphics and gameplay and shit. Also I am very gay and love attractive women
I like downloading random gacha games I get ads for- yes even the ones with stupid ads. If anything that makes me want to download them more because I want to see what quality the game actually has and how much is false advertising. I’ll make another post later to discuss how much of Monster Never Cry’s ads are false advertising, as well as issues that the game has, but in the meantime, I want to start positive.
Monster Never Cry has an art style I really like. It reminds me of Skull Girls in a way. Plus, I feel like at least one person on the team had fun designing some of these characters. Since the premise is that you’re the head of the “villain” monster kingdom, the designs of characters you can pull really stand out to me a bit. Yes you get a bunch of obligatory cute girls, but a lot of these designs have some really cool ideas and silhouettes. Let’s look at some right now.
——————-
Vesta
Tumblr media
Yes, first let me pull you in with some big titty ladies. Ok but tits and sultry gaze aside, here’s what I like here.
First of all, I feel like she really sells the idea of “playing what would normally be the villains” aspect of the game, especially compared to some other designs. She looks like a character you would actually have to fight in other games. Of course, she also looks a bit like your generic succubus wife character. Bc every gacha game needs one, I guess. And here’s the other thing, and I find this kind of interesting. Vesta, weirdly enough, almost has this angelic vibe as well. Yes we got the horns and the curves and the spikes. But hear me out. First, most obvious observation, there’s a lot of white and gold. Also, at least in gameplay, those spikes floating around weirdly resemble wings (at least to me). Not particularly mind blowing, I know. And the official splash art being used here isn’t exactly helping my case here since it’s really emphasizing the darker parts of the design. But let me put it this way, you could put an angel character in this design and it would work with minor alterations. And I feel like that works with the premise of the game, where the monsters were never “villains”, at least until the heroes decided that they were.
But even apart from that, I really like the silhouette here. It’s playing with the shape of a heart, which actually carries over in her in game model thanks to those floating spikes. There’s a lot of contrast here too, that makes the design pretty readable even though a lot is going on. We have the contrast in colours, in curves and sharp edges, etc.
I do have some criticism here. For one, the blue accents really aren’t necessary. You can barely see them and they’re not really doing anything. We already have red and gold accents, you could just use those. There’s also the ombré hair. I get the idea, and yeah it looks cool, in the official art it curls up like magic smoke or something. But you really can’t read it in the in game model, even though they tried to add it. Frankly they could have just had an ombré in a darker grey in the hair and it would have had a similar effect. Plus I get it, succubus, but the ass wings aren’t necessary. They’re not doing anything for her and you can’t see them much anyways.
—————-
Nafitha
Tumblr media
Ok, now here’s one I really find interesting and fun.
Something to note with the designs in this game is that they have to carry over to small 3D models, and yeah, some characters fare off better than others. Let’s just put it that way.
But Nafitha here actually carries over well to a 3D model. Even her little crystal friend is very visible, perhaps even more visible in 3D. Nafitha is pretty unique to me since she actually looks better in some ways in 3D. You notice more about her design, like how the rocks around her wrists are actually disconnected and also floating. She does look like she’s missing a mouth there, sure, but I wouldn’t say that detracts from the design. If anything I wish she just didn’t have a mouth since it would lend more to this crystal-rock construct look. You can tell that Nafitha was designed with 3D in mind, because it takes full advantage of it via the floating rocks and her little friend, plus the fact that she levitates. It allows for a lot of movement in animations and attacks.
I also like the use of colours here. The rock barrier acts like a frame almost to the white and blue, and the silver and white make good accents to the various blues used to show off the crystal look. I also love that the more saturated blue is used both in Nafitha’s body and her companion because it gives this idea that this is the power that she’s running off of. MNC doesn’t give too much individual lore to characters, outside of the main story and something called Memory Casket. Nafitha hasn’t shown up in either as of the time of writing, so I don’t know what her deal is exactly. But her design makes me want to know more, especially because of that interaction she has with her companion.
———————-
Shipshark
Tumblr media
Ok, this encapsulates the other aspect of MNC’s designs that I love, which is “ridiculous but great”.
It’s three shark brothers, on a ship that is also a cannon turtle, and everyone’s a pirate. The silhouette is messy, and you can’t exactly tell who it is based off of it. Also, the official art doesn’t show that one of the sharks has a fish skeleton as a weapon which I think is a crime. But… I mean look at it. It’s just goofy! But in a way that works! They still fit the vibe of “this could be an enemy or even a boss in another mobile game”, while maintaining this comedic look.
I don’t have much else to say, I just like these guys.
—————
Guardian 1 and Barnend
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Putting these two together bc it’s a similar concept.
When I say that at least one person on the team had fun, this is what I mean. These two characters are just tanks where it’s a suit piloted by a small animal and you’re supposed to take them seriously.
I’m not sure which I like better. In Barend’s case, the bear is actually kind of edgy (at least from what I recall in memory casket), and serious which makes his design even more entertaining to me.
But then there’s Guardian 1… which is funny to me because it’s an “Ancient Golem”… with a hamster in it. Because… because why the fuck not I guess.
Again, similar to shipshark, I just think these guys are neat
—————
Last one, Undine
Tumblr media
First, I like the silhouette and colours. The gold really pops, and the harp helps it read in silhouette which character this is. The little slimes are cute too, and frankly I just love the idea of a water harp.
I’d even say that the lack of coverage here at least makes a bit of sense? She’s surrounded by water, so logically you’d at least wear something swim suit-ish. Plus she’s treated like a Devine protector of sorts to slimes, and I feel like the amount of skin and the white fabric does kind of lend itself to that.
However, the main reason I think the lack of coverage works is because it at least kind of helps with the main issue I have with Undine. Unlike most of the monsters, she doesn’t really fit the vibe of “you would fight this character as a boss or something in another game”, and I can’t tell how I feel about it. On one hand it works I suppose, given that the monsters are the good guys here. But at the same time, I don’t know how any hero could read Undine as a threat? Perhaps that’s just me, I don’t know. She just doesn’t look… edgy enough? Or maybe she just looks too gentle? I’m not sure.
My other issue is the 3D model. Undine in 3D….
Tumblr media
Showing at the risk of exceeding my image count.
Yeah…
I can’t even tell what’s in her lap. A book? A skirt? Also where did the harp jugs on top come from?
Characters downgrading in 3D is definitely a thing in MNC, and I may make another post going over that and other issues in the game. But Undine seems to have really gotten it rough.
—————
I do have some other characters who’s designs I like but this post is already a mile long, so honourable mentions
- Loki
- Sarcophogirl
- Octasia
- Sylph
- Medusa
- Horace
- SynderHelden
- and Avanzo
Let me know if you’d like me to make a sequel post to go over these designs
And let me know your thoughts
I apologize for wasting your time

Meet My Characters: The Halloween Gremlins
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Meet some new characters of mine, the dual spirits of Halloween in my story.
Liadain (Li-Li) Arwan and Rhiannon (Rhia) Fiachra. Otherwise known as the Conjurer and the Raven.
The top shows their designs in the current timeline of the story, but the lower two shows them in their teenage years.
Li-Li is a non-binary demon/fairy/elf hybrid
Rhia is a gender fluid angel/vampire hybrid
And Plebbles the “Cat” is… something. We don’t know what.
———————————-
In the current timeline:
About two years ago, two beings came into existence. Both caused chaos and confusion as soon as their existences started.
In Heaven, angels had no idea what to make of Rhia, as there had been no instances of hybrid angels before. Some angels took Rhia’s existence as an omen for the end of the world. For their own protection, they were sent to live on Earth.
In Hell, none of heads of the various demon legions knew what to do with Li-Li. Tired of listening to the adults fighting, Li-Li ran away to Earth with their pet “cat” Plebbles, where they met Rhia.
The two bonded almost immediately. It felt as if they were meant to find their place in the world together. Working together, the two made an enchanted house to live in- a large pumpkin shaped cottage capable of growing legs and running around.
Within a year, both the outcast kids, along with Heaven and Hell, realized their purpose. Both Rhia and Li-Li were meant to act as the spirit of Halloween.
Li-Li enforces the trick-or-treat, wild scary festivities side of the holiday.
Rhia manages the side of Halloween where the lost souls of the dead are guided, talked to, and summoned.
… Of course, this meant that come Halloween, these two kids were given the freedom to do whatever they wished. And, being the absolute gremlins they are, they of course choose to prank as many people as possible for as long as they can.
But of course, you might be wondering, hey! Are these two kids just living unsupervised with no adult guidance or supervision or anything? Yes. Yes they are. And unsurprisingly, this results in the two not just causing mischief on Halloween, but throughout the year. Hell tried on several occasions to assign a guardian to these two, only for said guardian to give up due to not being able to handle their behaviour.
Finally, someone decided to do something. Pepper Kringle, the angel of merriment and spirit of Christmas, convinced her siblings to look after the two.
Shelegiel the Winter Angel and Leliel the Night Angel. Otherwise known as Jack Frost and the Man in the Moon. These two elder angels had a considerable amount of time on their hands. Plus they were sorely lacking in social interaction. Jack had been grounded in heaven for a century and a half after she nearly wiped out half the world with a snowstorm. Moon, meanwhile, had grown accustomed to spending hours in his room alone painting shirtless men (it’s art, ok?)
So obviously, perfect candidates for raising these two gremlins.
At the very least, they’re able to keep up with Li-Li and Rhia, but only time will tell how these kids will turn out.
————————————
Future Timeline:
As teens, both Rhia and Li-Li’s powers have developed, and the two have started to drift apart. The two had come to realize that they had grown dependent on each other, and are now focusing on being capable of looking after themselves.
Li-Li is a frequent nuisance to many a forest dweller. They enjoy starting bonfires, conducting crazy rituals, and casting wild spells. They still love to play pranks, and despite agreeing to separate from Rhia, they’re very much not ready to be on their own.
Rhia meanwhile has matured and has grown into their role. Living in a graveyard, they venture out at night to different resting spots, carrying messages between spirits and engaging in conversation with them. They even guide any lost souls they come across. Living on their own, Rhia is starting to venture into doing things they’ve been wanting to do for years, and look forward to becoming more assured in their individuality.
However, both soon find themselves being dragged back into the world they had been outcasted from. And what else should happen but absolute chaos.
——————————————
So that’s the overall idea for these characters. Now let’s get into who these two are
Li-Li:
Li-Li is the more mischievous of the two. They enjoy scaring people, and they don’t always realize when they’re taking their pranks too far. This gets them into trouble a lot, especially since Li-Li really isn’t good at apologizing. They’re not ill-intentioned, but they tend to take their interest and goals further than they should.
They’re cheery, giggly, and somewhat hyperactive. They love making potions and trying out spells. Currently, they’re obsessed with finding ways to look into the future. They’re extremely passionate and love to share their ideas. They also like to sing little songs to themselves. Li-Li is somewhat dependent on Rhia, and their greatest fear is being separated from them.
-
As a teenager, Li-Li is very much the same, except now they’re trying to be a comic supervillain or something. They act edgier and arguably more irresponsible, and still don’t realize when they’re going too far. But they’re working on that last part. They’re very theatrical when speaking, gesture with their hands a lot, and will absolutely not stand, walk or sit properly. They also might have an addiction to laffy taffy.
Li-Li claims to be alright living alone, but in reality, they find any excuse to visit Rhia. They struggle to make new friends, and are secretly scared of losing Rhia. They’re still somewhat obsessed with knowing everything going on in Rhia’s life.
They have one other kind of relationship with someone at least! Li-Li is a “frustrating neighbour” to the sentient plant, Prickly, who tries to prevent them from accidentally burning down the forest. Li-Li doesn’t realize how annoyed she is with them, and kinda thinks that they’re friends.
——————————————
Rhia:
Rhia is the more polite and mature one, and typically takes responsibility when they and Li-Li are in trouble. They’re much more passive and reserved. They tend to go along with whatever Li-Li decides. Of course, they love pranks just as much as Li-Li, but Rhia is better at hiding their mischievous streak. Rhia will also defend Li-Li to the end, and cares for them deeply. They tend to think that they’re responsible for both their and Li-Li’s wellbeing.
Rhia often comes off as stoic, and people often mistaking think that they’re annoyed when they’re not. They also tend to steal tubes of animal blood that Li-Li was planning to use in potions to drink. Rhia secretly wishes to make more friends, and has a crush on Jophiel, the angel of Love.
-
As a teenager, Rhia has become more independent and assertive. They’re able to balance having a mature side when talking with the dead, and embracing their geekier side in their downtime. When speaking to spirits, Rhia is polite, respectful, and reassuring. It doesn’t matter what the topic of conversation is, they will stay for as long as the spirit wishes.
In their free time, Rhia is an essayist. They make long and extensive essays on the themes and hidden messages in their favourite shows and movies. Rhia is also a lover of all things campy, their favourite movie is Hocus Pocus, and when switching between female and male, they insist on doing a full quick change. They’re socially awkward, but they become comfortable around others quickly. They also love pumpkin spice.
They also at some point acquired a collection of masks that give them different abilities.
———————-
And that’s it for the Halloween gremlins both current and future!
But before you go, I’m going to try something. Since I’ve been practicing my character writing via rp, let me give you all some example interactions between the two.
I hope you enjoy, let me know your thoughts
And I apologize for wasting your time

Look At Zoophobia's Criticism And You See It Spill Onto Helluva Boss
Tumblr media
Before Vivziepoop was known for Hazbin Hotel/Helluva Boss, she was also known for this series she did back in her college years, Zoophobia. It ran for four years and stopped due to her losing steam from it and not handling the criticism regarding it. And not handling criticism is going to be a big theme in this.
Tumblr media
The rating summary shows a lot of criticism she had on this work sounds familiar doesn't it. The art is great, but you know it can be hit or miss when it comes to backgrounds. The story is supposed to be grand, but it ends up being one heck of a letdown because the writer doesn't know when to pick up or move the plot. Also they just dump future players and we neve really get to it. And again designs of characters aren't interesting or engaging as we are seen in how she repeats or makes them extremely gaudy. Again this is all from someone who never took criticism from her own series from heart and it doubled down.
Tumblr media
Biggest complaint as we are seeing in the current day is that she's an immature woman who cries when she's criticized and throws tantrums whenever she people call out on her behavior. So those aspects always were with her but we ignored them based on the superficiality presented with Hazbin Hotel/Helluva Boss. Mostly because we thought she moved on but we were proven wrong.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also look at her reaction due to her bad webcomic entry. On the surface it might seem civil, but we all know underneath she's seething big time about anyone giving her well deserved criticism about her overpraised shit.
Again when you look back at Zoophbia's issues and see things in Helluva Boss and Hazbin Hotel the issues are still prevalent and will lead to the downfall of both series since Vivziepop refuses to budge.

Redesigning Fakemon
So, I’ve been stressed
And I came across my fakemon from a year or so ago in my image gallery
And I kinda hated them
So let’s redesign them!
——————-
First, the fire starter
I can’t remember what I called it, but it initially looked like
Tumblr media
The concept is for a fox Pokémon that evolves into a fire/ghost, with half of its body being made of smoke. One half is more good boi, the other is on some unhinged joker shit.
My issue was that it didn’t look like a starter. It looked too complex, and too much like Fennekin. So… I decided to look up different foxes.
I found two good inspirations. The island fox and the bat eared fox. Firstly, I’m shocked that the bat eared fox isn’t a Pokemon already. Those ears are amazing. Second, the fur pattern of the island fox made for a good idea of where to place colours in the fur.
I took out the half smoke fox from the original, but when I design the second and third stages, that will be reincorporated. For now, I gave it a smoke tail. And I will be using the features in this stage to redesign the next stages.
————————
Next, I redesigned the legendary sea serpents. For anyone unaware, my fakemon take inspiration from Canada. And in Canada… we have a fuck ton of sea serpents for some reason. Don’t ask me why.
Anyways, I gave my initial Ogopogo inspired design (the one with the shield tail) a few tweaks to make it more inspired by Caddy, as I felt that it was more fitting.
I redesigned the Ogopogo inspired Pokemon to make it more monstrous, given that Ogopogo is often described as a sea demon.
I also tweaked the Memphre inspired Pokemon, making it have a tail resembling a rainbow trouts and a cloak instead of it being a fluffy worm.
And that’s the other thing. For group cohesion, I started incorporating a royal court theme into it. The Caddy inspired Pokemon has a crown and shield and is kinda serving nobility. The Memphre Pokemon to me looks more like some court magician or royal advisor. And the Ogopogo Pokemon is either a scary knight or an executioner.
I will share the names for all these Pokemon and more information in later posts when I have more work done
Art and designs made by me
