do you all remember in the early 2010s where people were talking about freeing the nipple and that mixed-gender sports should become a thing and the removal of period tax and all of that and then some people realised that would mean trans people too ans they instantly decided to revert to bioessentialism 101 and now i have to see grating sentences like Well maybe jeopardy should be gender-segregated because males have a biological advantage in pressing a button

So, there's a dirty little secret in indie publishing a lot of people won't tell you, and if you aren't aware of it, self-publishing feels even scarier than it actually is.
There's a subset of self-published indie authors who write a ludicrous number of books a year, we're talking double digit releases of full novels, and these folks make a lot of money telling you how you can do the same thing. A lot of them feature in breathless puff pieces about how "competitive" self-publishing is as an industry now.
A lot of these authors aren't being completely honest with you, though. They'll give you secrets for time management and plotting and outlining and marketing and what have you. But the way they're able to write, edit, and publish 10+ books a year, by and large, is that they're hiring ghostwriters.
They're using upwork or fiverr to find people to outline, draft, edit, and market their books. Most of them, presumably, do write some of their own stuff! But many "prolific" indie writers are absolutely using ghostwriters to speed up their process, get higher Amazon best-seller ratings, and, bluntly, make more money faster.
When you see some godawful puff piece floating around about how some indie writer is thinking about having to start using AI to "stay competitive in self-publishing", the part the journalist isn't telling you is that the 'indie writer' in question is planning to use AI instead of paying some guy on Upwork to do the drafting.
If you are writing your books the old fashioned way and are trying to build a readerbase who cares about your work, you don't need to use AI to 'stay competitive', because you're not competing with these people. You're playing an entirely different game.

I just want to remind everyone that is your civic duty to jailbreak your Nintendo consoles and pirate every Nintendo property until the heat death of the universe.

Suiko -
A water creature found in both Japanese and Chinese folklore, the Suiko is often confused with the Kappa but they are much more dangerous and bad tempered. They are the size of a small child, have a body covered in hard scales and have hook-like claws on their kneecaps. They are normally found living near riverbanks and in large bodies of water.
The Suiko have the ability to command Kappas and they care about their rank and how they appear to other Suiko. This drives them to attack and kill humans in order to prove how tough they can be. They are also pranksters who will sneak out of the water at night to knock on doors and run away, or to possess people in order to make them do strange things. Like Kappa and other water creatures, Suiko enjoy pulling humans into water and drowning them. They will then drain a person of their blood before eating their souls.
In order to keep a Suiko at bay you must lean a sickle against the side of your house and sprinkle flax seeds or black-eyes peas on the ground outside. Suiko are frightened of these so they will keep them away. The only way to kill a Suiko is to take the corpse of someone who has been killed by a Suiko and place it inside of a hut made of grass and straw instead of burying it. The Suiko who killed the person will be drawn to the hut and will run around in circles. As the corpse decays so will the Suiko and it will eventually die.

in light of police across the country cracking down on pro palestine protests with brutal force, it feels like a great time to remind everyone to shut the fuck up around cops. don't make small talk, dont act friendly, don't fucking engage with them!! if you are arrested DO NOT speak without a lawyer present. protest organizers, get into contact with local pro bono lawyers who can be there for your arrested comrades. no matter what, if cops are there, shut the fuck up unless you are actively doing a protest chant. dont tell cops why you were there, dont tell them if you're affiliated with the school you may be protesting at, dont tell them if you came there with anyone, dont tell them anything!!!
