One of the things I love about Rowaelin and their dynamic (aside from really relating to her as a woman who unapologetically loves herself and is good at most things) is that he’s not like, possessive? A lot of male fantasy romance heros are possessive and growling and snarling at others, but like the only time in the book he gets vaguely possessive is right after they bone the very first time, and it’s like a “hmm, weird feeling, gotta be careful with that” and isn’t mentioned again. Fenrys shows up and to Aelin he’s like “have fun flirting with our boyfriend babe”. Like even with Arobyn he just puts on the almond skin oil (it’s the grooming and psychosis that bothers him, not the possessive element of it). Like he’s so confident in himself and his relationship with Aelin that he doesn’t feel the need to do that, which is incredibly sexy, and much more reflective of the dynamic that I want in real life.

Oh yes, both Rio and Miles give off culturally Catholic vibes!
Literally had no idea miles morales was possibly catholic before this tournament??
Yup! There's as much evidence for Miles being Catholic as there is Peter B. being Jewish or Gwen being Trans. It's subtle but it's there. Now, I don't blame anyone who missed it because what's obvious to me (a catholic Latina who speaks Spanish) will not be obvious to others. I didn't realize that Peter B. was Jewish the first time I watch ITSV until someone made a post about it. That's why it's so important to listen to POC/minority voices in fandom, they can often see details that others not from that culture will miss.
And lets be honest, I think a lot of people don't realize that Miles is Catholic because he's black and doesn't "look Latino." Because tell me why did the fandom universally agreed that Miguel is Catholic, despite there being no supporting evidence in the movies and the only justification for that hc is that he's Mexican/Irish, but not Puerto Rican Miles? I'm gonna guess it's because he's black and doesn't look like what we think Catholics look like (Mestizo Latine, Irish, Italian). There is no one way to look Catholic look just like there is no one way to look Latine.
Evidence in case anyone is curious and doesn't know what I'm referring to:
Rio saying Ave Maria (A catholic™ thing)
Miles says "bendicion" to his mom

This is beautiful!
A timelapse of an average day in the TBB house.
Ive decided the family has finally moved into a bigger house and now everyone gets their own room. Gonky is still doing well.
Wrecker and Hunter quit their construction jobs, Wrecker decided he was gonna apply to the local fire department. He got hired and is now in their fire academy. Hunter is still looking for work, but is taking the time to spend more time with Omega. (If anyone has any suggestions of what he would be good at let me know).

Maybe weird request, but could you draw Hunter wearing this:

Only if you like of cause but I saw it and could only think about Hunter's slutty little waist.😂
Not weird at all, I used this for a late night sketch to help me get sleepy. Thanks! :) (Hunter’s lil waist is often on my mind too lol)

I think that it’s really interesting to look at Hunter’s personality in TCW vs TBB because it really drives home the fact that he’s a perfectionist who does best in familiar situations and who does not like change. In TCW, we see Hunter in his element as the sergeant of a (complete and intact) squad known for its 100% success rate. The mission to retrieve Echo is a fairly routine one that Hunter (correctly) assumes will be successful, so he shows off and acts cocky and playful the entire time.
Now let’s fast-forward to TBB. The Clone Wars are over, the fascist Empire has replaced the Republic, Crosshair has left the squad, and the rest of them have decided to desert with a child in their care. Hunter is now completely and utterly out of his element, and it’s clear that a lot of his confidence is gone. He no longer acts so much like a playful, cocky, frat boy so much as he does a tired, middle-aged father. He’s no longer in the routine of going on missions assigned by the GAR, succeeding, returning home, and doing it all over again. His routine has been disrupted, and he has been made aware of very real danger that his squad and daughter can face at the hands of the Empire. Hunter avoids tackling any problem that he is not confident he can solve and is hyper-aware of any and all risks. With every failure, Hunter shuts down more and retreats further.
I have no doubt that Hunter’s sense of self-worth hinges on his ability to successfully command his squad and complete missions. His status as a “freak” and outsider growing up likely made him obsessed with proving himself worthy so that he had a record of all of his successful missions to rub in the faces of of his nay-sayers. Hunter is basically a walking, talking personification of Gifted Kid Burnout and I love him so much.

It's a shame that the multi-media franchise of star wars have twisted the original narrative of the Jedi. I really love the sequel trilogy, I love season 7 of TCW, and Dave Filoni is amazing storyteller. But over the years, it's gotten to the point where the Jedi are being criticized to such a degree that now some people believe the Jedi should've changed their entire belief system. It's great to criticize the Jedi. They are flawed and not perfect. But now because they are now being framed negatively over the past 2-3 years and so now, some justify their genocide, disrespect their belief system, and believe Anakin was a poor victim who got caught up in everything. Lucasfilm or any writer is to blame for this, but I think people need to look a little more deeper into the media literacy behind star wars, and consider the fact that a child is going to love the Jedi despite their flaws and will be sad when they see them get killed. Because star wars is made for children who can look up to the Jedi as role models.
All of this.
I frankly don't know what else to add, @thecenturyofmusic said it all.
I also think there's an argument to be made for shifting global values.
I don't know about how it was in the U.S. specifically, but I don't remember there being as much of an emphasis on mental health back in the early 2000s as there is today.
Back then, I remember many fans sorta getting the core story but hating it, which resulted in a lot of them just bashing the Prequels.
Nowadays, a spin has been put on the Prequels wherein Anakin is the poster boy for the mental illness, he's just a victim:
he grew up a slave which gave him severe PTSD,
then was ripped away from the arms of his mother by
an elite order of emotionless monks whose emotionally-repressing teachings are the perfect representation of toxic masculinity and force you to never get emotionally attached,
who berated and rejected him at every turn,
he also doesn't have a father figure except for the Chancellor, who grooms him and isolates him,
and instead of supporting him in his hour of need, the Jedi hurt Anakin psychologically to a degree where at some point he just loses it and kills them all, because as far as he's concerned they were evil to him.
And... yeah. It can be interpreted that way. It resonates more to people when seen that way.
But it wasn't meant to be seen that way.
If it was, then we'd have seen very different Prequels.
Watto would have physically abused Anakin left and right like he's DiCaprio in Django: Unchained, instead of joking around about humans with him.
Shmi would've been on the ground crying, holding Anakin's leg and screaming "please no give me back my babyyyy!!!"
Literally every shot of the Jedi emoting, screaming, chuckling, being worried would be absent and they'd all speak with a monotonous voice, including Yoda, Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan.
If we were supposed to feel like Anakin is in the right and the Jedi are in the wrong then we'd be shown an Anakin who isn't petulant, arrogant and overly emotional. We'd see a normal person who gets berated by a group of unfeeling old men.
Anakin wouldn't call Obi-Wan his father twice (which is admittedly a nuanced situation because while Anakin may see Obi-Wan as a father, Obi-Wan sees Anakin as a little brother so hey).
We'd see Anakin explicitly state that he's afraid of his wife dying, maybe carrying her unconscious body to the temple steps begging for help only for someone to reject him at the door because "it goes against protocol" and that's when Palpatine swoops in.
Y'know, more explicit, emotion-eliciting stuff?
But we didn't see any of that. Because it wasn't about any of that. If it was, then it goes about delivering its message in the weakest way possible.
While nowadays, the popular take is that Anakin's downfall is the fault of everyone around him, the intended take was that Anakin's fall was his own fault. Anakin is a victim of his own flaws.
The Prequels weren't meant to show you what happens when you keep pushing a mentally unstable person, they were about cautioning children about not giving in to their own fear and greed.
"How does a good kid become a bad man?" He let his inner demons - fear, anger, greed - get the better of him.
And that's not necessarily a take most people agree with these days, but that takes us back to how much importance you actually give to GL's original vision.
