The order of the questions of morals from Odysseus in monster makes sense
Why?
BECAUSE:
Tumblr media
First: he questions Polyphemus, which is all fine and dandy because cyclopses are viewed monsters and the questioning of the morals isn't too impactful.
Tumblr media
Then: Circe. It also makes sense since at first glance, she's doing wrong shit, but her actions are justified. She had been wronged, so she protects her nymphs from the harm she was put through
Tumblr media
Then: Poseidon. Which is intense. Because in ancient greece, the gods were above all, never to be questioned and always to be worshipped, never to be disrespected. Questioning one of the big 3 Gods is like Questioning the christian god up to the 16/1700s. (Presumably, idk)
Tumblr media
And last but not least: Odysseus himself. This is the most intense because he's a soldier who surely has killed and will kill the suitors. 108 men and more plus a baby he has killed without / with minor questioning. Questioning his morale and the justification of it is, for Odysseus, very intense because he killed people. He killed trojans. He will have killed the suitors. He killed a child.
ALSO!!!
Amrev Odyssey, the scene with Odysseus and his mom but it's Hamilton and his mom :3 think about that
LOVE THE YAPPING IN MY INBOX ALWAYS AND THIS IS SO?? /VPOS

I think this appearance of Polites and Odysseus’ mom in The Underworld- bedsides the fact that they’re dead and should be there- was to tempt Odysseus into the River Styx. I think that’s what souls do to anyone who visits.
I imagine the dead crew-mates trying to beckon their alive friends into the water so they can be together again. I imagine soldiers having to physically hold their friends back from trying to jump into the river.
I imagine Eurylochus trying his best to keep Odysseus on the ship as Polites and his mother float by. I imagine Odysseus reaching out to touch them, to talk to them, anything. Trying his best to be strong- yet he can’t help but be tempted towards the water. And his crew-mates have to hold him back more than anyone else. And only after they have passed does he snap back to reality and realize how fucking terrifying the Underworld truly is.

When Tiresias mentions seeing his wife with a man haunted and with a trail of bodies and Odysseus screams “WHO?” because oh he is a jealous monster risking it all to get home. His family has been his motivation since the start. He is becoming a MONSTER to get home to see his wife and his son. And here is the prophet saying she is with someone else? Because Odysseus hasn’t decided to become the monster yet. He hasn’t made the fundamental shift in his core values yet. He doesn’t know that he’s willing to do that. Yet. Not yet. So he SCREAMS and he is jealous and he is halfway to being a monster but not quite yet.

"I see a song of past romance, I see the sacrifice of man, I see portrayal of betrayal and a brother's final stand. I see you on the brink of death, I see you draw your final breath, I see a man who gets to make it home alive but it's no longer you."

The thing about Odysseus is that he was so proud to be able to take all six hundred of his men through a horrific war and survive. And then he lets a cyclops live and he gets into the underworld and one of the first things he hears is the souls of his dead crew accusing him "558 men who died under your command". The baby he killed.
and then Polities shows up. telling him to lead from the heart because that's what he's been trying to tell Odysseus for so long. All of his regrets, all in one place to torment him
im not okay about this
