Tldr I hc that midas is the reincarnation of king midas from greek mythology, except he came back with more control over his power and hadn't died from starvation as it makes no sense, though he does turn his daughter to gold and starts despising deities ( mainly dionysus ) as he had tricked him.
I also hc that as he came back and got married, his wife eventually wished for him to abandon his life of crime to take care of their daughter who was just born, but midas disagrees and says it's just too difficult, they keep fighting about it until the wife sends an ultimatum, he gets mad abt it, she chooses to leave and take Jules, he panics and reaches for her, except as a trauma response his body reacts just as it did when he lost Marigold the first time, and he turns his wife to gold. He ends up telling jules, once she grows up, that her mom left without a word, and he eventually just learns to control his powers a lot better. But imo, he doesn't know that there was another catch to his curse, which is, that it is directly linked to light and his sight. The less light there is ( as well as consciousness ), the less he is able to turn things to gold. As in, if he were to be put in a dark room and he can't see anything, then nothing will turn to gold and he can't turn himself to gold either
I also think that another thing to his curse is, even if he were to lose his hand, as long as he can "touch" something, then he can still use his power, as in, even if he were wearing a gauntlet or prosthetic, he could still use his powers
