Mia
Boxer X Chocolate Labrador Retriever |F| Andover, MA
"Meet Mia – a 7 month old Boxer/Chocolate Lab mix who currently weighs 30 pounds.
Mia hasn’t had the easiest start to her young life. She was found in mid-June in a very remote area with a wound on her front leg. She was brought to the southern rescue where she has been able to spend time healing. Mia can be quite shy when meeting new people, but once she knows you and trusts you she will be your best friend and your shadow. Her favorite thing to do is to chew on a soft chew toy."

Something about seeing out of context gifsets of the romantic quirky fun scenes of bo burnham and carey mulligans characters in promising young woman is... uncomfy. Like did you guys not watch the movie?

“Anger is the demand of accountability, It is evaluation, judgment, and refutation. It is reflective, visionary, and participatory. It’s a speech act, a social statement, an intention, and a purpose. It’s a risk and a threat. A confirmation and a wish. It is both powerlessness and power, palliative and a provocation. In anger, you will find both ferocity and comfort, vulnerability and hurt. Anger is the expression of hope. How much anger is too much? Certainly not the anger that, for many of us, is a remembering of a self we learned to hide and quiet. It is wilful and disobedient. It is survival, liberation, creativity, urgency, and vibrancy. It is a statement of need. An insistence of acknowledgment. Anger is a boundary. Anger is boundless. An opportunity for contemplation and self-awareness. It is commitment. Empathy. Self-love. Social responsibility. If it is poison, it is also the antidote. The anger we have as women is an act of radical imagination. Angry women burn brighter than the sun.”

Quote
Isn’t it funny how frightening a character becomes — particularly a woman — when they say, ‘Actually, I’m right. And so I’m going to keep going. Even when everyone else is bored, and even when everyone else is furious, I’m going to keep going.‘

Most revenge films take a plotline of "I'm going to get my power back" or "I'm going to dominate those who victimized me"
But that's not always how in real life revenge fantasies feel.
Sometimes the feel like "I'm going down and I'm taking all you bastards with me"
And that's what Promising Young Woman does differently and does right.
Revenge is very often self destructive.

promising young woman spoilers
i understand why people dont think promising young woman is a “female empowerment” movie or a “revenge fantasy” movie, but i think thats the point?? the entire movie cassie was desperately trying to find ways to get people to see what happened to nina as something other than a little mistake.
nobody, even nina’s mom, wants to really look at what happened in the eye. everyone (everyone!) just wants to move on. but not cassie. when cassie reaches the last leg of her journey, she knows that she might not make it, so she has a contingency plan, just in case. i think she foresaw her potential disappearance as another instance of people sweeping crimes under the rug. sure enough, her ex and her murderer begin the process but her forethought ensures that she will not be forgotten
she wasnt the “badass” female character that takes no prisoners and punishes her enemies in a way that the audience feels is morally justifiable. she forces her enemies to feel what she’s felt for seven years, in whatever way best suits that particular person
and the ending it just that. forcing these people – that hurt nina and herself – to pay for their wrongs. she even forces the lawyer to make amends by putting him in charge of her last statement. (and i think this also showed that if someone truly wanted to redeem themselves however possible they can take those steps. cassie trusted no man other than her father but she gave the lawyer a chance which he took)
i get why people were disappointed. they wanted a moment away from grim reality. they didnt want a women having to find retribution in death. but she was willing to do what nobody else would: risk her life and give up her potential happiness for what was right.
so no the movie wasnt killing eve female assassins ruthlessly taking down men (the director was a showrunner for killing eve btw) but it was a movie that demanded justice despite the ramifications
