We tend to move into something small and cozier of places when we’re depressed. By turning into a blanket-roll, or moving into walk-in closets, or to a mini tent set-up, we tend to form our own cocoons to rest ourselves, to hide away from the watch-y eyes of the world, to explore through a pile of reasons. We yearn for the proximity with ourselves, the unmatched closeness. We develop a want to be hugged either by a person, or clothes, or blanket, or the places we get in. We rummage for a shield to shelter us, to nurture the broken heart with all the warmth that the proximity radiates.

list of mundane things that feel like ancient human rituals
cleaning or wipe your bare feet
breaking off a piece of bread and handing it to someone
putting the weight of a basket on your hip or head
eating nuts or berries while hunched over close to the ground
seeing something startling just out of your line of sight and very quickly stepping or leaping on to a larger object to get a better view
cupping your hands into running water to wash your face
the unanimous protection of a baby or child in a public space where women are present
when an elderly woman laughs and grips your forearm tightly

in case you haven’t heard it today, or don’t fully realise it yet: i promise you that most people in this world are kind, loving and understanding. the people around you want you to succeed, they do not want you to fail. your friends don’t hate you, they love you, and they want to see you grow and prosper.
the world is not as bad as it seems. don’t forget that.

Shout out to writers who can’t do plots, who write about feelings and moments in time instead. I love reading those fics, and I love writing those fics. Keep on peering into the depths of characters’ hearts and souls in the little moments. You’re exploring the places where canon often fears to tread.

A sudden, terrifying thought
When you see an animal with its eyes set to the front, like wolves, or humans, that’s usually a predator animal.
If you see an animal with its eyes set farther back, though—to the side—that animal is prey.
Now look at this dragon.
See those eyes?
They’re to the SIDE.
This raises an interesting—and terrifying—question.
What in the name of Lovecraft led evolution to consider DRAGONS…
As PREY?

Female Character: *Everybody is immediately drawn to her for no discernible reason*
Female Character: *Extremely powerful compared to all of the other characters within the story; there’s no reason as to how she became so powerful*
Female Character: *For some reason is able to quickly pick up new skills in a period of time comparable to a genius; no explanation for this too.*
Female Character: *has virtually no weaknesses except she’s clumsy teehee :)*
Person: Isn’t this kind of a mary-sue?
Tumblr: why do misogynists like to invalidate strong female characters???????????

If you’re at a Con, look out for your fellow conventioners and stick together even outside of the convention establishment! There’s a big Con that I’ve been to multiple times in a big city, and around convention time you can usually see people in cosplay all over the place in the vicinity, and it is so important to remember that those are your people!
I always go to Con with my best friend and we always cosplay- we usually feel pretty safe even though we’re both girls, because we’re together, and we don’t generally go in for skintight outfits, it’s just not our style.
One evening we decided to hit a fast food restaurant that lay between the convention hall and our public transport home. So we go stand at a table near a family of cosplayers while we wait on our food (which was taking forever), and a REALLY creepy looking guy starts talking to us because of our cosplay (I was steampunk, she was anime).
Usually I love talking to the public when they notice my cosplay, I love promoting the Nerddom, and being an ambassador for geekiness, but this guy was disgusting-looking and giving off weird vibes, so we tried to be as boring as possible and kept the conversation short. Meanwhile, the dad and the teenage boy from the table next to us went to the counter to ask for sauce or something, leaving a preschool-girl princess and a shapely mom in a tightfitting Spiderwoman outfit. Creeper dude starts taking to them. I didn’t catch all of it, but I could tell that the remarks were very inappropriate to the mother (I caught the word “sticky” at one point). The lady makes it very clear that she does not want to talk to him, much as we did.
My friend and I look at each other, realize that this isn’t the sort of restaurant where we can expect the management to do anything (the guy had made a scene at the counter already, and it sounded like he did this regularly), and the two of us slid over to stand next to the mom and her daughter, saying something to the effect of “we are conventioners, we notice that you are also conventioners, and wondered if you would like to hang out for a bit?” and you could just feel the relief amongst all of us as we grouped together to effectively shut out the rest of the restaurant until our food came.
Always look for other conventioners if you feel unsafe in public- your chances are better with nerds, and chances are, at least part of your road home follows the same path- we always saw other people in cosplay at the train station, even if we were taking different trains or getting off at different stops, it’s like a little mobile part of convention, and they were always happy to hang out-we’d always see people walking to and from the convention hall
A great comic telling people to stand up for their fellow fans!
