I don't know what genre you'd classify it as but I love the trope when a character goes to a master to be trained. The master beats the shit out of them but they keep getting up and ultimately win over their masters.

Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken! Season 1
Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken! is ultimately and love letter to old school anime and traditional hand-drawn animation. The environments feel like they'd be right at home in a Ghibli movie at times or even a show like Kill La Kill with the sprawling and erratic landscapes. The characters are well developed and easily traverse the line between endearing and annoying. Making them feel like real people as appose to "I like anime and that's it.". It's also refreshing to see actually female characters and not watermelons taped to sticks.
It also showcases the creative struggle of what you want to accomplice vs what's possible within a budget and time constraints. That in order to be able to create your own vision and story, you have to work to be known first. And you can't always just sit and strive for everything to be perfect or you'll never get anything done. 5/5.

High School Fleet Season 1
High School Fleet takes place in a world were a majority of the worlds coast is now underwater, essentially creating a water world and, some high schools have their own student manned ships.
After being rescued by the Blue Mermaids at a young age, Akeno Misaki wanted to work hard and join their ranks. So making a promise with her childhood friend to work hard to get into the same prestigious high school, where the Blue Mermaids train and operate out of, they get in but are assigned to captain separate ships.
While heading to a rendezvous point, the ship is fired upon by their own instructor, causing them to have to fire back in defense, only for them to be branded as mutineers.
I enjoyed my time with this anime, it surprised me. I wasn't expecting much outside of cute girls do cute things but on a battleship but the mystery and characters brought me back each episode, wanting to know what would happen next. And I it also helps it has a solid opening theme song. 4/5.

My New Boss is Goofy Season 1
My New Boss is Goofy follows Momose, a new employee at an advertising office. Due to a previous history of mental, physical and verbal abuse from his previous boss, Momose learns to face his past trauma and become stronger. He's helped along the way by his new boss, Shirosaki who is both thoughtful but also air headed at times, causing many comedic moments throughout.
I had to take breaks while watching this anime because I was smiling too much that my face was starting to hurt. The main characters' relationship is so sweet and beautiful. Shirosaki is so understanding and never shuts Momose down but instead he does his best to listen and help however he can, leading to some sob-worthy moments. This anime made my heart happy. While it is a loving male friendship, I do wish that it had also been a BL romance but that's just me. Over all this anime was wonderful. 5/5.

Raymond Brigg's The Bear
While the Snowman is a classic holiday movie that plays around Christmas time, I prefer another Raymond Brigg's movie The Bear. After her teddy falls into the polar bear exhibit, a little girl is visited by an unusual guest. Despite some issues, such as peeing on the bathroom floor and leaving a nasty surprise on the stairs, the little girl and polar bear grow to love one another.
However, it can't last as the bear yearns to return to the wild where they came from. So, with the help of Ursa Major and a little Christmas magic, the two set out on an adventure. As with most adaptations of Raymond Brigg's works, there's no spoken dialogue outside of songs and the animation feels like it jumped straight from the page; with their pencil drawn style of animation. Like The Snowman, The Bear has a bittersweet ending that may bring a tear to your eye.
The only real issue I spotted was the girls foot clipping through the poo on the stairs (what a sentence) but it's not enough of an issue to take away from my overall enjoyment of this movie. Absolutely worth a watch this holiday season. 5/5.

Carol & The End of the World Season 1
Carol & The End of the World is an adult cartoon set in the 90's and, follows Carol Coal a women in her late 30's at the end of the world. With less than a year left to live with Earth impending doom, Carol struggles for some sense of normality and meaning in life while other's around her embrace the end of the world by completing bucket lists.
As she continues to look for something, she stumbles across a mostly abandoned office building, and nestled in the building is an accounting firm. As a way to try and distract themselves from what's happening in the world outside, they roleplay as accountants with their own manuals to follow and daily tasks to complete. And it's through this that Carol is able to come out of her shell and gradually becomes more and more of a social butterfly, bringing people together while the clock continues to tick down.
My hope for a second and hopefully final season, is that they don't pull anything. No, mysterious scheme bs. No, it was all a dream nonsense. And 100% no backing out. It sounds horrible but if your premise is the end of the world, stick to it. I don't want to see the characters die on scene, just that they went out happy and content with life. That would be a sad but hopeful ending.
This isn't going to be for everyone, Carol's monotone voice, reminds me of Daria but without the sarcasm. And I wouldn't recommend it if you're having a low day. But otherwise 4/5.

Why I Dropped The Apothecary Diaries
The Apothecary Diaries is a beautiful, historical, comedy-drama featuring a 17 year old girl, named Maomao. Brought to the rear palace after being kidnapped, Maomao uses her knowledge of poisons to help solve many incidents and even murders. For the most part, I really loved The Apothecary Diaries, and even thought about buying the first volume of the manga. Most of the characters are delightful in their own right and interesting. And Maomao is one of my favorite main characters to come of this decade. The problem and the reason I finally decided to drop The Apothecary Diaries is this bastard, right here:

"Oh but his swoopy hair and beautiful face-" No! This man is terrible and the reason I decided no, I'm not doing this anymore. Don't care if he gets better later on or changes. Don't care. He pushed my buttons too many times to count.
From the first episode, he has been obsessed with Maomao, he sexually harasses her whenever the chance presents itself, despite being shown many times, she is not into him or what he's doing.
Then in episode 10, my final straw, he backs her into a corner and when she desperately calls for help, Jinshi's assistant turns his back and pretends nothing is wrong. They then write it off a "prank gone wrong" when they're caught in the act.
I'm sorry the way Maomao reacted, the way the scene was set up in it's relentlessness, that's not fucking funny. And I'm sorry but how long ago was it that Maomao told this fucker to his face that the reason she covers herself in freckles, to make herself "uglier" was to avoid being sexually assaulted. And instead of re-assessing what he's been doing and backing off, he doubles down. This deeply disturbed me.
You know what show did this type of investigative story, minus the sexual harassment with an almost equally strong female main character? Raven of the Inner Palace. And you know what happens when someone is sexually harassed or assaulted it's not joked about or made a none issue, it's treated with the dignity and respect and understanding it deserves.
So, that's it. The Apothecary Diaries dropped at episode 10.

There Will Come Soft Rains (1984)
Based off the short story of the same name, There Will Come Soft Rain (1984) is a Soviet era animated short set in the year 2026. You follow a house robot in it's daily tasks around the house. You immediately feel something is off but it's not until it goes to "wake" the family that it sinks in that something tragic has occurred but the robot is unable to understand this fact. The atmosphere is haunting and bleak and you feel sorry for the robot even though it lacks sentience, simply because it doesn't understand what has happened. The art style is fascinating but also adds to the grim environment. If you have a spare 10 minutes it is currently available on youtube, it's worth checking out. 4/5.

I think it's funny that whenever Disney or Pixar put out a movie or tv show that isn't 9/10 at least, it's "the death of Disney". Yeah, I'm sure that the multi-billion multimedia company is just going to magically disintegrate. But hey, doom and gloom sells more clicks, right?

First Impressions: Fushigi Dagashiya: Zenitendou Season 1 Episode 1-2
Fushigi Dagashiya: Zenitendou is an interesting mixed media, episodic, anime about a mystical sweet shop that only the selected lucky few can find. From a mermaid jelly that helps you to swim to a candy ring that absorbs evil doers and much more. But often with these sweets comes a life lesson that each person has to learn. Honestly, the episodes I have seen so far have been fun and interesting. And I would love to try those sweets so badly. It's cute, fun and worth a watch. 4/5.

Konohana Kitan Season 1
Konahana Kitan follows the day to day running of the hot spring hotel, Konohanatei. We start with our main character Yuzu the fox girl as she first joins the staff and begins to learn the ins and outs of hotel management. Konohana Kitan, has a lot of heart and there were several episodes that brought me to tears. It explores spirituality, the afterlife and found family. It also has girl love in almost every episode which was a nice surprise but it's still in the early stages. But I do have some criticism, it leans a lot into fan service, including underage characters which made me uncomfortable at times. So I can't give it higher than 4/5.
