Masterpost of TLT metas
This is mostly for my own reference, as tagging doesn't seem to guarantee something being findable on Tumblr...but if you like wildly overthinking lesbian necromancers in space, enjoy!
Overthinking the Fifth House:
What is a "Speaker to the Dead"?
Actually, Magnus Quinn isn't terrible at sword fighting
Imperial complicity: Abigail the First
Pyschopomp: Abigail Pent and Hecate
Did Teacher conspire with Cytherea to kill the Fifth?
What does the Fifth House actually do?
The Fourth and the Fifth can never just be family
Cytherea's political observations at the anniversary dinner
Abigail Pent's affect: ghosts and autism
Were the Fourth wards of the Fifth?
Abigail probably knew most of the scions as children
Magnus Quinn's very understandable anger
Fifth House necromancy is not neat and tidy
Are Abigail and Magnus an exception to the exploitative nature of cavaliership?
"Abigail Pent literally brought her husband and look where that got her" (the Fifth in TUG)
The Fifth's relationship dynamic
The Fifth's relationship is unconventional in a number of ways
The queer-coding of Abigail and Magnus' relationship
Abigail and Palamedes, and knowing in the River
Was Isaac the ward of the Fifth?
Did Magnus manage to draw his sword before Cytherea killed him? (and why he probably had to watch his wife die)
How did Abigail know she was murdered by a Lyctor?
Fifth House necromancy is straight out of the Odyssey
Overthinking John Gaius:
The one time John was happy was playing Jesus
Is Alecto's body made from John's?
Are there atheists in the Nine Houses?
Why isn't John's daughter a necromancer?
The horrors of love go both ways: why John could have asked Alecto 'what have you done to me?'
Why M- may have really hoped John was on drugs
What is it with guys called Jo(h)n and getting disintegrated? (John and Dr Manhattan)
John's conference call with his CIA handlers
Watching your friend turn into an eldritch horror
Why does G1deon look so weird? (Jod regrew him from an arm)
When is a friendship bracelet not a friendship bracelet?
Why did John have G1deon hunt Harrow? (with bonus update)
The 'indelible' sin of Lyctorhood and John's shoddy plagiarism of Catholicism
Are John Gaius and Abigail Pent so different?
What was Jod's plan at Canaan House?
John and Ianthe tread the Eightfold path
The Mithraeum is more than a joke about cows
When was John Gaius born? (And another)
John Gaius and the tragic Orestes
Overthinking the Nine Houses:
'No retainers, no attendants, no domestics'
Funerary customs and the violence of John's silence
Juno Zeta and the terrible, horrible, no good, very bad time
The horror of the River bubble
Every instance of 'is this how it happens' in HTN
Feudalism is still shitty even if you make it queer and sex positive
How do stele work?
Thought crime in the Nine Houses
The Houses have a population the size of Canada
What must it be like to fight the Houses?
You know what can't have been fun? Merv wing's megatruck on Varun day...
Augustine's very Catholic hobby (decorating skeletons)
Necromancers are not thin in a conventionally attractive way
Matching the Houses with the planets of the solar system
Why don't the Nine Houses have (consistent) vaccination or varifocals?
How would the Houses react to the deaths at Canaan House?
How does Wake understand her own name (languages over 10,000 years)
What pre-resurrection texts are known in the Houses?
Camilla and Palamedes very Platonic relationship
Overthinking House religion:
What do the Houses believe about death?
Was M's nun a Franciscan?
Cavaliership and arbitrary socio-religious structures
Ritual scarification
Sacraments and sacramentals
What did Silas think god wanted at Canaan House?
In defense of Silas
There's no such thing as a 'good' necro/cav relationship
Veiling and shaving in Ninth House cult practice
Tongue-in-cheek thoughts on Eighth and Sixth religion
A very long deep-dive on House belief and practice
Overthinking Harrowhark Nonagesimus:
'The meat of your meat...belonged to god' and 'that is how meat loves meat'
The horror of parental touch: Harrow, John Gaius, and Abigail Pent
Why is Harrow so obsessed with Abigail's hands?
Frontline Titties of the Fifth and transgressive necro/cav relationships
Harrow, Wake, and permeability of the soul in HTN
Bible studies for weird queer necromancers:
Epiphany: revealing god's child to the wider world
The Holy Innocents and the creche massacre
The Virgin Mary and Commander Wake
John Gaius and John the Baptist
Instantiating the Trinity and the Second Resurrection
What's the significance of Paul?
St Paul's theology of gender and sexuality and the House theology of cavaliership

A SUGGESTED READING ORDER FOR TAMSYN MUIR'S SHORT FICTION FOR LOCKED TOMB FANS
1. The House that Made the Sixteen Loops of Time. 5k. It's short, it's the very first thing she published, it's sweet, you can think CamPal thoughts while you read it.
2. The Magician's Apprentice. 4.8k. Let's get into it. Simply one of the best things she's written, has all sorts of echoes for the Locked Tomb and altogether a barn burner. (tw: grooming)
3. Chew. 3.7k. Zombie fiction set in WWII. (tw: sexual assault)
4. Union. 5.5k. I love Union and think it doesn't get enough hype. Deeply, deeply Kiwi and also quite unsettling. A great follow-up to Nona.
5. Princess Floralinda and The Forty Flight Tower. 216 pages. A novella, get it from your library or as an ebook, alternatively, Moira Quirk does a great job with the audiobook. This is a fairy tale satire, as pointed and black-hearted as you can imagine. A main course & a must-read.
6. The Woman in the Hill. 3.9k. I'll be honest, I think this one is skippable, but then you can say you've read them all. Lovecraftian horror, told in an epistolary format between settlers in the New Zealand bush.
7. Undercover. 59 pages. Plop your money down (or find a pirated version), it's worth every penny. A undercover cop risks her life to investigate rumors of a ghoul in a gangster's speakeasy. Blood, devotion, deceit--everything you could want in a TMuir story.
8. The Deepwater Bride (print | ebook ) Dessert. Again, worth the money. Teen Hester Blake, from a family of seers, determines that blonde, Converse-clad Rainbow Kipley is destined to be the bride of an uncanny god. 22 pages and it'll change your life.
BONUS: self-published webcomic APOTHECIA, illustrated by Shelby Cragg. Space monsters, teenage girls & corruption, oh my.

Wasps so tiny you will question everything.
Imagine being so teeny tiny that you are an endoparasite on *leafhoppers* Leafhoppers are already in the "so small they go unnoticed" category, and you're just a little pest on a minuscule thing.
Of course the group that's most likely to choose this life? The wasps Wasps are some of the smallest insects. There are "fairy flies" that are parasites of the eggs of certain insects.
They are so small that air is "thick" to them and their wings have feathered edges are are oar shaped.
Some fairly flies are so tiny that their neurons are cells without nuclei. They got rid of them to save space. They can still think though... presumably the tiniest little thoughts.

They lay their eggs inside of the eggs of 1-2mm long crop pests.
And... read the article to see what the males are like... they are even smaller somehow, but it's ... disturbing.

In the german books the translator decided to use "she" for MB. (In my opinion unnecessary because while we don't really have a singular, non-gender-specific pronoun, we do have the equivalent of "it".) I always thought that was at least better than using "he" because the default gender for someone that is physically strong and made to kill is male. In addition to that MB is mostly described as looking rather stereotypically male (minus the robot parts).
On one hand choosing a female actor could (in this case) be in a better position to really portray MB as NB and not as somewhat male. On the other hand the point made in the reply is very valid and I think it's interesting how (and if) they're going to handle that topic.
I can't tell you why but I'm nonplussed and a little disturbed that they cast a male actor as Murderbot. I hardly watch any tv already and it's on a streaming service I don't subscribe to, but I think I'd give it a pass anyway.

Back at home I told them, they want to call us a cult, let’s be a cult. It only takes a little bit of eyeliner and a couple capes. I told them I’d save them. And I said, I’m a necromancer.

The Sedlec Ossuary located in Kutna Hora, Czech Republic, is a chapel which contains the bones of 40,000 people because they wanted to be buried near a jar of holy soil from Golgotha where Jesus was crucified. Due to the Black Death and wars they needed to enlarge the abbey cemetery and the unearthed bones were stacked in the newly built curch in the 14th and 15th century. They have been arranged artfully in 1870. Now it's a UNESCO world heritage site!
Also it looks like something out of TLT - the Ninth House or the Mithraeum.
Also here is the wikipedia page and here is the official page.

The Locked Tomb is mostly classified as Science-Fantasy. And I think the Science-Fiction part holds more potential:
What about space ships? The shuttle that took Harrow and Gideon to Canaan was faster than light (bc they didn't spent years in transit) but probably not necromancy-powered. BoE and probably all of humanity outside of the Nine Houses definitely had access to FTL because they could reach Canaan House from outside the solar systems and there are various settlements in our galaxy and that's how the ships escaped John the first time.
Those engines would probably complex and require (and/or generate) lots of energy. Couldn't that make a weapon again the Nine Houses? I mean they had thousands of years, they had to find a way to make that thing destructive - they're humans after all.
They seem to have a way of manipulating gravity - see the space station of the Sixth and the mithraeum. Is ist necromancy? In that case wouldn't that make an excellent tool in fighting - imagine letting your enemy loosing the floor under their feet or making it basically impossible for them to move. If it's tech I would assume that BoE would also have access to it and that's the same thing as above.
And imagine - the physicists and engineers. They would be needed for building space ships and engines, for calculating orbits, for maintaining the life support on the space stations, probably also for terraforming, for growing food. Wouldn't they want to study how necromancy works from a physical angle? I can't imagine going 10.000 years without some new findings.
And what about BoE with robots? They had more than enough time, would probably even have those from the billionars fleeing earth. Imagine how a necromancer would interact with something that doesn't breathe, doesn't have organic matter and is still out to kill them.
