Ann DeWitt Civil War Writer
Award-winning author Ann DeWitt’s research interests include the surnames O’Neal, Hill, Lincoln, Dunbar, Edwards, DeWitt, Chavis, Davis, Brown, White, Montgomery, Hodge, and Bostic. Aside from tracing the genealogy of these names, she also researches slaves and free persons of color who served in various military capacities during the American Civil War. Her books “Entangled in Freedom” and “In Search of Betsy O’Neal: 2014 Family Research Citations” have been recognized in the US and in the UK.
Ann also volunteers in mentoring and assisting aspiring authors to self-publish their literary works. Some of the writers she had helped have already received their own awards and recognition. Though a South Carolina native, Ann is currently living in the metropolitan area of Atlanta, Georgia.
