Welcome to my blog!
Hi, I'm Leo! I've lived in the USA my whole life, and I've learned that there are a lot of people who want to learn more about English or American culture than they might be taught in school. I thought it was a good idea to create a resource for people who are thinking about studying in America, visiting, or are just curious.
I have a linguistics degree and a lot of experience talking about how language works, and it's something I like to talk about. I don't want this to be about vocabulary or test scores, though. There are plenty of resources out there to improve your academic English- I want to talk about things like how we use swear words or regional slang. More casual topics like this are actually important to understand how and why people use a language a certain way. I'm not opposed to helping people with English writing or answering questions, but that isn't really the point of this- I just think it's important to develop a well-rounded understanding of a language you're learning. (Also, English can be pretty complicated, and I'll probably end up talking about things like plurals and conjugation a lot.)
Feel free to ask me anything. Also, keep in mind that all opinions are my own. I've only ever lived in Ohio, so most of my experiences relate to that. Someone from Texas or Washington or Alabama might see things completely differently. I'll try to post semi-regularly, but it really depends on if I come across a subject that I think is interesting. My goal with this blog is to make the fun part of language learning more accessible, and hopefully share a little bit of America that someone who's never been here wouldn't know about from movies or the news.
