Now that this post is old and dusty I feel the need to FINALLY confess something about it (which I personally find hilarious): This post is based on something that actually happened to me! (Hi it's me I'm Lan Wangji) My crush (now partner!! Hooray!) said the WWX line here and I DIDN'T say the second line, but the second I thought of it and realized how funny and ironic it was I decided to post it as the most fitting characters I could think of, and it then proceeded to become my most popular post on this account from what I can remember (I haven't been very active on this account)!

I grew attached to these journalists who risk their lives everyday to show us the truth. This is Plestia, a journalist in gaza. This is what she said in her last video after the blackout on gaza.

Plestia's name is special. It comes from the first group of people who lived in the land of Palestine who came from the Aegean sea. They were known as the plestia tribes who lived there for 5-6 centuries. The name "plestia or flestia" later led to the name Palestine, the country we know now.

Women and children. The sick and disabled. Elderly people. Pregnant women. And many other noncombatant civilians. All indiscriminately murdered in collective punishment by Israel.

Are we to believe that Benjamin Netanyahu wants peace, or … should we believe the past 75 years of lived history + the evidence before our eyes, and understand that Netanyahu’s extreme, far, rightwing Israeli government wants the subjugation or the death of all Palestinians, who the government has repeatedly called “children of darkness” and “human animals”?

Hate doesn’t breed hate, injustice and oppression breeds hate.

In the past two weeks, multiple generations of Palestinian families and entire bloodlines have been wiped out and by Israel. These civilians were not members of Hamas. These are heinous war crimes. This is a genocide that will not bring a lasting peace.

"Oh the media being biased/silent on Gaza is a conspiracy theory"

I am a literal journalist and this is what happened when I pitched an article to a magazine I write for:

We covered conflict before. We denounced PMs' positions as wrong before. But this is where the editor balks - anything that makes it look even vaguely like we might, possibly, support Gaza. Even if the article itself would not have been an opinion piece, but a news feature about events on the ground.

We have free press, baby! But avoid the matter entirely if you can. It's delicate and depressing, why would you talk about it? Don't rock the boat. Be quiet. You don't need to go there.

Self-censorship is alive and well.
