.Secret.
Emily inherited 3 key things from her father, his ambition, his love for dreaming and his Claustrophobic tendencies and anxieties.
As a child, she often watched her father make a big fuss over little spaces, but never really understood it herself. However, as Emily got older she slowly started to recognize small places sometimes made her a little nervous- this wasn’t enough to hinder her, but it was at least noticeable. Emily went through most of her young life without this ever affecting her. However, when she entered college she found that not only can could college kids be just as mean as high schoolers, they were worse.
During her freshmen year, Emily attended a small get together with a few of the older students casts in the campus play she was currently in. They snuck into the auditorium late at night to gossip and drink. After awhile however, the silly drinking games started. Emily found herself locked in a broom closet with the play’s lead actor. She’d found him attractive enough, so at first the situation didn’t bother her too much (aside from the closet size.) However, he got too physical for Emily an she tried to stop it, which only made him aggressive. He forced himself on her and afterwards, locked her in the closet alone.
She remained there until he next morning, when a friend on the set crew finally heard her yelling and let her out. She later found out that the party had been a cruel joke, plotted at her expense.
After this occurrence, Emily’s Claustrophobia became life altering- she also developed fears of being buried alive, suffocating and drowning. The sexual assault having also brought her slight trust issue.
Emily finished out her college career there, but stayed silent on  the incident. She did her best to avoid that particular group of people.
Afterward, Emily got many jobs- none as long term or as testing of her phobias and anxieties as the Walking Dead. It eventually became so overwhelming that her quality of life was being affected outside the show, and she had to request her character be killed off; This created far more turmoil in Emily’s personal life than she expected. The ripple effects still follow her.
As Emily’s gotten older her Claustrophobia has gotten worse, taking on a shape all it’s own. As she ages, it is not just physicals walls and people that are seemingly closing in on her, but the walls of old age and fatality. At 31, she hasn’t married and still isn’t a mother; two things that she’s always wanted to accomplish in her life. Sometimes, thinking of these topics can trigger an anxiety attack of claustrophobic episode for  her.
Most recently, she’s begun to have very vivid/lucid dreams and night terrors. The might terrors are most often related to her phobias in one way or another; Whereas her dreams are about the sky, flying or breathing under large bodies of water. They also often include vast empty spaces, or long stretches of road.
Emily has now developed a near obsessive fascination with these things, because they make her think of freedom and soothe her fears.
Although Emily should be on medications, she isn’t and never has been, as well as vows never to be.
She prefers natural remedies and is always trying out new ways to reduce or relive stress and anxiety (yoga, mediation, monthly cleanses, uses sage in the home, etc.)
Aside from all of that, she is in very intensive therapy and is almost never out of contact with her doctor.
