I can’t quite put into words why MCU Spider-Man bugs me so much.
It’s like they took away every defining characteristic from Peter Parker and tried to mold him into their idea of what Spider-Man should be
End Result:
MCU Peter is not driven by guilt, responsibility, or concern for others. His motivation and goal is to be like Tony Stark and to be a Big Deal
Instead of Aunt May being one of the most important people in Peter’s life and her and Uncle Ben being the ones who helped him become who he is, a huge chunk of time is spent on developing Peter’s need for a mentor/father figure. In these 2 movies, he has had THREE, and not a single one of them has been Uncle Ben.
Where Peter Parker does all he can to safeguard his identity and takes the consequences of his actions into account, MCU Peter is careless.
He’s always taking his mask off. No care for his secret identity. More okay than he should have been with being under surveillance and with SHIELD in general (in Far From Home, SHIELD tracks him across Europe, changes the trip itinerary, butts into his personal life, and Peter only expresses exasperation).
Many of his problems are caused by his own carelessness and immaturity (in Far From Home, he orders a drone strike on a classmate and hands over dangerous tech)
The movies make a big deal about him being the “friendly neighborhood Spider-Man” but don’t actually …do anything about it. In the first movie he wants to make it bigtime with the avengers, and the whole second movie is set in Europe.
