Quote
I witnessed the utter lack of effort and human decency that your administration provided
Alayna H.
This quote is derived from Alayna’s “Open Letter to President Crow/ASU” in which she describes a meeting for proposing the instigation of a rape crisis center. It’s clear from this quote how ASU’s administration continues to be unhelpful and dismissive of the desperately needed victim resources. Despite the evidence and personal stories shared during the meeting it is clear that ASU doesn't care for their student’s well-being. So now it is the job of organizations like SDASA, organization/club endorsements, and the entire student body to unite on social media and expose ASU for who they really are.

#MeToo Movement
The #MeToo movement started in 2006 and has grown widely in social media activism towards sexual assault awareness and change. More specifically I wanted to focus on the most recent version: #MeTooASU. Coined by Sun Devils Against Sexual Assault this was in response to Arizona State University’s lack of sufficient resources for assault victims. I think it is a great strategy to unite student online and show ASU that we’re a force to reckoned with.

This ABC15 news story about the clear mishandling of Arizona State University when it comes to sexual assault cases. Mind you, this story aired in 2014 but everything highlighted in this video is still a huge and continuous problem at ASU even though it’s 2021. All the “resources” listed in the video are in place but are incredibly lacking in effectiveness and, especially ASU PD, are more concerned with upholding ASU’s image than providing justice for sexual assault victims. That is why the organization mentioned in the video: Sun Devils Against Sexual Assault (SDASA) is now demanding a Rape Crisis Center that is long overdue.

This is Alayna, somebody I’ve never had the pleasure of meeting but cried when she decided to share her story with the entire world. She’s been at the receiving end of Arizona State University’s cruelty after deciding to report and open her own rape case. While it’s very difficult to watch the videos she created demonstrating the actions and abuse of ASU trying to silence her trauma, I highly encourage you too see for yourself the lengths a University (maybe even your own) will go to silence justice. Find the videos on Instagram IGTV at @asu_sdasa (Sun Devils Against Sexual Assault).

Arizona State University has been mistreating, gaslighting, and silencing sexual assault and rape victims (mostly female but also male) for many years. It is the goal of organization: SDASA (which I’ve linked here) to create a rape crisis center that ASU students desperately NEED yet ASU continues to deny us any hope of its creation (despite the 50k+ petition that's been created advocating for it). Please take a look and share with others, this isn’t just a problem at ASU and can apply to many universities.
