Philosopher Ludwig Wittgenstein’s rebuilt Cabin 30 steep meters above Lake Eidsvatnet in Skjolden, Norway. For 60 years, there was only the empty foundation of Wittgenstein’s house on a steep mountain side, called “Austria” (Østerrike) by the locals. In 1919 Wittgenstein gave the house as a gift to a friend in Skjolden, but continued to live there himself when visiting Norway.
Fortunately, after the demolition, care was taken of all the timber, roof tiles and windows, and now the solid, small house has finally been restored and opened. Perhaps it can be a place of work for thinkers and artists for part of the year as Wittgenstein himself did — “I can’t imagine that I could have worked anywhere as I do here. It’s the quiet and, perhaps, the wonderful landscapes; I mean, its quiet seriousness.”

ORIGIN Tree House
Atelier LAVIT have designed the ORIGIN Tree House for their clients in France who wanted to have a unique cabin.
ORIGIN is an exceptional cabin, a unique and tailor-made project. The architectural challenge for Atelier LAVIT was to create a functional and comfortable hotel room, being faithful to the first inspiration of the project: a bird-nest. The design of the cabin, coupled with the construction techniques, led to a rationalization of the assembly logic of the branches collected by the birds to create their impregnable shelters.

Tanto la geometría base del volumen, tomada de graneros y villas, como la materialidad que toma prestada para vestir las fachadas, dialogan con los vanos dispuestos con libertad y los espacios abiertos y conectados interiormente.
Positioning a house in a rural environment can give design tools that, along with modern lines, complete an interesting work and dialogue with the place. Both the base geometry of the volume, taken from barns and villas, as well as the materiality it borrows to dress the façades, dialogues with the openings freely arranged and the open spaces and connected internally.
