For you Ill kneel
read it on AO3 at https://ift.tt/0DNP7ci by aheadfullofbooks Damen kneeled and, slowly, pointedly, bowed his head and kissed Laurent's thigh. Then, against the expanse of clothed flesh, he whispered, “my King”. In the quiet spectrum of human gestures, kneeling was a potent action. A show of submission, a supplication of mercy, a proclamation of devotion and worship - all these found meaning in the genuflection of a bent knee. But now they were equal - not only in rank and power, but in truer ways. Words: 7177, Chapters: 1/1, Language: English Fandoms: Captive Prince - C. S. “So, what should we be on the lookout for - aversion to garlic? X-ray vision? Not showing up in photographs?”

the orange game
A while back, in a journalism course, my teacher suggested a game.
First he had us split into two groups, then he brought in a bag of oranges. The professor then asked each group to pick an orange, name it and pick out two defining characteristics.
Maybe we were easily excitable but we got way into this game. My group called our orange Sara, she had a little bump on her head and tanned skin. She had a life, and baggage and hopes and dreams.
(Still an orange.)
By personalizing them, knowing their name and background, we cared. It's not easy to empathize with faceless, unknown groups of people, but when it's a human being so much like ourselves, it's hard not to care.

The densest people on the internet are the ones who say sci fi and fantasy are are getting too political. Why can’t we go back to the good old days of The Twilight Zone, with its various episodes about mob mentality and the danger of mass paranoia that totally weren’t about the Red Scare. Or Star Wars and its genocidal empire of racially homogeneous Aryan men. Or Dune with its religious tribal peoples who live in a desert that contains the galaxy’s most valuable resource and the wars with the foreign colonizers, that was purely from Frank Herbert’s imagination. Can you imagine how much Star Trek would suck if it was packed to the brim with ham-fisted allegories of every societal issue of the 20th century. Not like all this modern ultra-political stuff, like a woman hero.

What are your top beauty tips?
Start out perfect and don’t change a thing. Always accentuate your best features by pointing at them. And conceal your flaws by sucker punching anyone who has the audacity to mention them.

i feel like there’s this huge unfulfilled niche in the Dark Academia thing (kill your darlings, the secret history, dead poets society etc) for stories about women???? like can we have rakish girls quoting sappho and anxious genius poet girls, bespectacled, frantically tapping away at typewriters? wild girls trying to start literary movements and being dragged down by their own hubris? innocent girls discovering love and sex and angela carter? cute girls in 60s looking school uniforms investigating ~mysterious happenings~? going to class the next day hungover and exchanging knowing glances? can we just have. the thing

A key component of the Spinster Mythos is financial independence — or at least the appearance of it. It’s very difficult to be a spinster when you can’t afford to live on your own, when you depend upon the income or the goodwill of others. This is why so many fictional spinsters are as wealthy as they are eccentric: it’s their money that allows them to behave strangely. Without money, without a home of your own, society will find a way to be beat the strangeness out of you. (It will still try even if you do have money, but then you can build a door of pearl and of onyx to keep society away from your house.) When I think of all the women — real and fictional — who simply could not afford to become spinsters throughout history, my heart aches. There should be a Spinster Dream Fund for women who need a small apartment overlooking a river or a cottage on stilts propped on the side of a mountain that is continually wrapped in fog.
