Does Battletech has lore as unhinged as 40k or did you mean it as just tabletop wargame?
I am already looking for fandom migration and Battletech doesn't sound bad but what captivated me about 40k is eclecticism and everything being over the top so
Battletech is a story about feudalism and bands of knights riding their steeds to victory against impossible odds. It's a story about the decay of technology after constant warfare. It's a story about racism and how extremism twists even the most righteous ideals into something wicked. It's a story about the Bell Telephone Company becoming a religion in order to preserve communications technology, and the schism of that religion causing every star to bleed. You also get super cool robots. And it's way cheaper than 40k.
I wouldn't say it's as over the top, but if you want to get into the lore, try reading the Blood of Kerensky series and see if you like that.

First time getting the lightbox out in a while.
This one combined a lot of techniques that are new to me. The glow on the crystal was the most difficult. Fortunately my fellow BattleTech fans helped walk me through the process, for which I am very grateful lol.
The bird on the back was hand painted, and yeah it made me sweat. It was so intimidating! I can see why some painters really don't like this scheme.
This may be the best mini I've painted so far. And the Turkina was a joy to paint.

As far as I know cannonically there aren't technically '7 foot tall cat girls' but
Battletech is a fun setting
Female custodes making the worst people imaginable mad enough they're gonna quit 40k is great, dealing with them moving to battletech is gonna be extremely tiresome

The guy I got it from said it's about 30 years old after I showed him the finished picture so it's very possible it's pewter. Sarna seems to be off the opinion that RP didn't completely phase out their lead minis until the later 90s even though they had Ralidium
A while ago I was shooting the shit with some Battletech oldheads and I mentioned I kinda wanted one of the old, slim metal Mad Dogs. Lo and behold, one was produced and I was told it'd be more use to me than it was moldering in a pile of shame. Hopefully I did it's old owner proud.
This is an *old* miniature. It's at least 23 years old based on the Ral Partha stamp, but its possibly as old as 30. That's old enough that I'm not sure whether or not the pewter in this is lead free ':v
Size comparison with a modern Mad Dog. Children grow up so fast these days

This sassy little bitch just murdered a Wolverine and a Nightstar. Don't worry, her armor is fine*
*fact checkers have added context: it's not fine.

Thanks! I wanted to do something a bit more than the first davion guard parade scheme in pride colors. Planning on adding to this again this year and maybe trying to tackle the nightmare of the full rainbow flag scheme somehow.
If you'd like to replicate that cockpit glass, try using contrast paint over a nice bright silver metallic base! That, plus some light highlights, and then the glare from the light box is doing the rest. I got the tip off a 1000 Sons player who uses it to do metallic red armor for his dusty boys, but it works wonders for windows too!
*sees the shit in the 40K community*
alright BT fans, you know what to do
post ALL the pride schemes

It's a tale of a thousand whispers and rumors and the superstitions of a darker age surviving in the shadows at the edge of civilization with the help of an ambitious pilot driven insane and old Star League tech gone bad.
There's no good answers, at least none well substantiated, for what exactly it is, but we can piece some things together based on the stories from what surviving records remain from the AFFS during the 4th succession war, the oral histories of its most famous known pilot, Black Kevin Langstrom, and more recent supposed encounters between it and the Raven Alliance.
We know it was first recorded rimward of Federated Suns' borders in the early 3000's, near old Taurian space. Tales of its use consistently speak of the mech driving pilots to madness. Kevin Langstrom reportedly spoke of some connection to a secret Star League project before his disappearance. It's an easy conjecture to guess it was some sort of Star League black project that was pressed into service in the Periphery uprising and abandoned either during the withdrawal to fight Amaris's coup or possibly earlier when whatever poor SLDF mechwarrior was pressed into the thing started experiencing the same psychosis other pilots of the machine did. Now, there is another known system used in battlemech design that causes degenerative mental problems, and conveniently also enhances the abilities of warriors equipped with it to superhuman level. Huh.
Well, recently acquired ROMs from a derelict clan naval asset lead some credence to one theory as to what the Star League might've been testing before their collapse. The pretender king on Terra seems to be of the opinion that the SLDF was developing their own variant of the Direct Neural Interface technology before their fall. If they were working on such a thing, and had hypothetically partnered with GM to create a 'next generation' version of their beloved royal Marauder 2R with some other improvements like the research into iterations on the PPC that lead to the clan Enhanced PPC and a guardian suite, that might explain a lot of the mech's tales. I've mocked up a hypothetical of what such a machine might have looked like, if it existed.
Just some food for thought.
"Has anyone ever heard of this "Black Marauder" myth? I have been speaking with a bartender here in Taurian space, and just wanted to hear the thoughts of my fellows."

A swipe at a redesigned yeoman I painted this week! Personally I think it goes a bit too far, losing the design language of Marik's boombox of death in the process, but its still a cool model!

Painted this Wraithlord. Was fun. I genuinely love this kit, it's so poseable and good. I have another I need to paint up, too. Thoughts?
Also yes, I did paint all the gems on his back vanes

3SW so my options are a bit limited and to keep rules checks from spiraling for 20 minutes every turn I'm keeping away from the terrain modifying missiles. Considering the dirth of alpha babies I might try giving the Jav and Bulldog a ton each of inferno and the stick a ton of heat seekers which each of the LRM launchers. If my opponent ends up not being down for tac ops shenanigans I'll probably keep the infernos
Convinced my local Falcon to dial it back to retro for a game this week- we're playing 3rd succession war era 3k bv. Behold, my list: 'Maximilian Liao's crippling gambling addiction'
Every unit's main (and in most cases, only) weapons are missiles so everything's gonna ride on those cluster rolls baybeee. We want pings to the head, random spalling, rogue 20 missile swings from the bulldog.
Battletech understanders feel free to critique the comp, I've got a feeling this is gonna flame out spectacularly but on the off chance it works it'll be really funny

My Inquisitor and Inquisitorial Henchmen allied unit, so far.
A few more bodies are needed for this to be a valid unit, so I’ve lined up the next few members of the team. Originally, I was gonna add two more acolytes and a mystic, and leave it at that. But I thought, what if I took an Accursed Cultist mutant and turn her into a Daemonhost? So, Daemonhost it is! I’m gonna add some chains to her, too.
