âLook, that sounds great and all, but Iâll pass... Iâve got a lot to do around here and itâs not going to do itself, so...â

Frederick sighed, more worried about Jax than anything. âSomething weird? Did you sprain something?â He furrowed his brow as he watched Jax go into his back pocket and pull out a familiar box. Somehow, he had gracefully moved so he was kneeling now, and Freddieâs eyes widened in surprise. His jaw dropped slightly, struggling for a moment to find words. He just hadnât expected any of that, he really thought Jax had gotten hurt. After a moment, he nodded, pulling Jax to his feet and smiling as he kissed him, not caring if they were making a scene. A few people who had seen the proposal clapped, not that Frederick even noticed. âYou just had to be the one to ask me,â he whispered, laughing softly as he pulled away. âI believe this is for you.â His hand disappeared into his pocket, pulling out a box to reveal the ring heâd attempted to give to Jax months before.Â
Jax could tell that Frederick was obviously surprised, which was the goal here. Especially since their last time trying this ended up pretty badly. Finally getting to stand when Frederick helped him up, he kissed his boyfriend back, enthusiastically, smiling against his lips. âOf course I had to. You did a horrible job of asking... but Iâve forgiven you,â he smirked, stealing a second kiss from him. âMmm... and now, I will gladly accept it. But you have to put yours on first.â The blond helped him, sliding the ring onto his finger and admiring it for a moment.Â

âI am very happy,â Frederick grinned. He was enjoying skating with Jax, but he wasnât all that surprised when he wanted to skate on his own. Frederick cautiously let Jax go, watching him carefully and cheering him on silently in his mind each time he didnât fall. He was doing really well, until he got a little too cocky and started to slip. Frederick skated quickly to Jaxâs side, concern etched across his face. âAre you alright? Did you hurt anything?â He reached out a hand for him to take, offering to help him up.Â
âYeah, yeah, Iâm alright,â Jax nodded, still pretending as if he hadnât fell purposely. âI think I landed on something weird, though...â Reaching into his back pocket with one hand, he took Frederickâs hand in his other, pulling himself up so that he was knelt down rather than sitting or standing. With swift movements he simultaneously opened the box that he had stashed in his back pocket and presented it to Freddie. âI think this is yours...â He smirked. âWill you marry me?â

Frederick rose a brow, chuckling slightly as he watched his boyfriend act as if he knew what he was doing. âMhm, itâs easy,â he rolled his eyes, kissing him again before taking off and skating around the rink, enjoying the wind from the speed he picked up. It was the most relaxed heâd felt in a long time. âAlright, ready?â he asked as he reached Jax again, having done a full lap. He wrapped his arm around the blondeâs, smiling to himself. âJust stay upright, youâre actually pretty good at this. I donât think you realize how happy this makes me.â
Jax stood there on the ice with his arms crossed, watching Frederick effortlessly skate around the rink. At first he narrowed his eyes at the male for leaving him, but it actually gave him time to think about the next step in his plan. Smiling softly as his boyfriend returned, he sighed dramatically. âI suppose,â he teased, chuckling softly. âYeah yeah,â he smirked, looking over at him. âIâm glad youâre happy.â He wanted to tell Frederick that he didnât have to chaperone him, but he liked getting to skate with him. It was nice. However, eventually he had to break from the brunetteâs grasp to execute the next step. âI want to see how good I am on my own,â he chuckled. Slipping his arm from Frederickâs, he took off a bit, skating ahead. âSee... this isnât so bad... I think Iâm getting used to this.â Looking over his shoulder briefly to smirk at his boyfriend, the second he turned back, he ended up slipping and falling on the ice, but on purpose. He knew that Frederick would come over to help him, which is what he wanted.Â

Frederick pouted, hoping that would get an answer out of Jax, though he was pretty sure it wouldnât. It wasnât as if it mattered, really, but he had certain things hiding around his room- gifts for Jax, that he didnât need him snooping into. He rolled his eyes when he was told not to ask questions, yet again, but agreed- he really was just happy to be at an ice skating rink. âCan I magicallyâpft,â Frederick scoffed, slightly insulted at the question. He waved his hand with no effort, giving them both perfect ice skates already on their feet. Then he yawned, as if he were bored, a devious smile playing along his lips moments later. âThank you,â he leaned over and kissed Jax on the cheek before taking his hand and leading them onto the ice, giving his boyfriend a moment to get used to the skates.Â
Jax smiled as Frederick was able to do exactly what he had asked for, and better than he could have hoped for. âExcellent.â Leaning over to press a kiss to Freddieâs cheek, he rolled his eyes at his obvious yawn. âAfter you.â After all, Frederick was the one who knew more about ice and the cold and slipping than Jax did, but he really wasnât planning on getting too hurt. It was a bit trickier than he expected, but of course, he wasnât going to let that show. It was somewhat easy to get the hang of pretty quickly. âThis is easy,â he shrugged it off as he adjusted to the ice.Â

Frederick already knew what was going to happen. Jax would be head guard. Not only did he deserve it, but Frederick could be very convincing, though heâd let Jax talk to the headmistress first. Maybe there was some sort of suggestion box he could jam full of papers, all suggesting his boyfriend be in charge of the guards. He laughed at the thought, not having meant to do so aloud. âSorry. Right, you donât have a key to my room! Right? Do you?â He looked up at Jax, brows furrowed. His expression changed quickly upon seeing the skating rink, not having been aware one was even around. âHow did youâ?â Frederick looked over at Jax with a childish grin on his face, completely excited. It reminded him of home, and he completely planned on sending Jakob a picture knowing heâd enjoy it as well. âCan you ice skate?â
âI donât know. Do I?â Jax smirked, teasing this out for as long as he could. He liked messing with his boyfriend. Once they got to the ice skating rink, the look on Frederickâs face was worth all of the time spent setting up everything and making sure this night went as planned. âDonât ask questions, just enjoy it.â When Frederick asked him if he could skate, Jax playfully rolled his eyes. âCan I skate... pft.â Really, he had no idea if he could skate, but it really didnât matter for what he had planned. âWeâre going to have to rent skates, unless you can magically make us some.â He wasnât sure if Frederick would be able to do that or not, but really he wasnât expecting him to be able to. He just thought it was a playful remark.

âOf course I think so. And Iâm not just saying that because I think the title is hot,â Frederick smirked at him from across the table. âThey need someone, youâd be perfect. Besides, youâre doing all the work anyway.â He wasnât even sure if Jax got paid for doing that; heâd never asked how all of that worked. âI would never lock my door- youâd just steal a key anyway. Suspicious, of what?â he chuckled, shaking his head. âWhat is the worst possible thing I could be doing behind a locked door- that I would actually do?â Most things he could think of were out of character for him. âThis was definitely needed,â he nodded, sighing contently as the waitress took their empty plates away and he finished his wine. They left not long after, Frederick again smiling to himself at how Jax took his hand so confidently. âI am. And I get two whole days with you, so I am definitely happy about that. Honestly, Iâm in a much better mood now.â It was like a weight had been lifted from his shoulders after weeks of being cooped up inside, never getting the time the two of them needed together. âWhere are we going now?â
Jax gave him a look, rolling his eyes playfully. It was a nice title, but that wasnât the reason he wanted it, obviously. âThatâs true. Weâll see what happens, I guess.â Chuckling at the thought of Frederick actually locking his door on him, Jax rose a brow, looking up at his boyfriend. âHow do you know I donât already have one? I could have keys to everyoneâs room, for all you know. Probably nothing, but then again, maybe Iâm overlooking something,â he teased, sipping his wine. In all seriousness however, DJ trusted Freddie and knew that he would never do anything to hurt him purposely. âGive it a few minutes and youâll find out,â the blond chuckled, shaking his head. He led them to a building farther into the village, pushing open the door for them and letting Frederick go inside first. âI know people donât normally ice skate in suits, but hey, thereâs a first time for everything, right?â

âRight, I forgot.â Frederick almost couldnât picture it, and wasnât sure how he would react to someone whom he imagined caused Jax to be as closed off emotionally as he was. Not that he had a bad childhood, but just that if his mother was a sergeant, she probably was good at compartmentalizing things. Most soldiers were. âA gun,â he breathed, unsure how the hell that would work. He had one idea, so he had to hope it was good enough. âYou would make a good head guard. As far as I know, the last one left.â He made a mental note to speak to the headmistress, and do his best to hide it from Jax. âHey, my painting was going wonderfully- it requires a lot of concentration, which is hard to do when my boyfriend comes in to interrupt me,â he laughed and took a sip of his wine. âNot that Iâm complaining, especially after tonight. I havenât painted in a while, actually, so it was good to get back into.â
âYou think so?â Jax asked, brow raised. He hadnât thought too much about it, really, but he figured since he was the only one around here who seemed dedicated enough to it, that it was only natural he receive the position. âMaybe Iâll talk to the head mistress about it, then. It couldnât hurt.â The worst that could happen was she said no. Laughing softly at how offended Frederick seemed to get, even if it was playful. âIâm only teasing, relax. If you donât want to be interrupted then lock your door next time. Actually... donât, that will only make me suspicious,â he teased, though there was truth to it. âIâm glad youâre getting back into it, I think itâs something that you definitely needed. And this,â he paused, referring to their little date. âWas definitely needed as well.â They didnât spend too much time in the restaurant, since Jax wanted to move onto the second part of their date. Finishing up their meals and wine, everything had been prepaid for, so after they were all set, they could leave. Taking Frederickâs hand in his, Jax led him out of the restaurant and on the way to their next location. âAre you enjoying the evening so far?â

Frederick really wasnât all that worried; he hardly understood why Jax seemed to be. It would be fine, he was sure- unless Jaxâs mother didnât like him and decided to kill him. âTraining. Like sword fighting? I can do that. And archery. I can fight, to some degree. Itâs been a while since Iâve trained.â Knowing he was going to be king had made him more pampered than heâd like to admit. âYour dad would love flowers? What do I bring your mom?â He took a bite of his salmon, eyes closing as he actually enjoyed his food. It was very good, and paired with the wine, the restaurant Jax had chosen was perfect. âOh. Iâm very patient with you; I think we both know that by now,â he smirked, reaching his hand across the table to briefly hold his boyfriendâs hand. âSo how has your training been? Have they made you head guard yet?â
âYeah, sure. Any kind of fighting. My mom would love to hear about it. Sheâs a sergeant, so just... remember that, when you meet her,â DJ chuckled. Nodding his head to the fact that his dad would certainly enjoy getting flowers, he was stumped really to know what his mother would like. Blowing a puff of air out of his mouth, he thought for a moment. âA gun?â Laughter fell from his lips though he was somewhat serious. He chose to ignore that comment, rolling his eyes playfully. Though he did accept Frederickâs hand, squeezing it gently whilst he had the chance. âNot officially, but I might as well be. It feels like Iâm the only one doing things around here sometimes, but I canât be everywhere at once. If I could, I would, trust me.â Eating some more of his food, Jax tried not to worry about work affairs, since they didnât matter tonight. Or tomorrow, for that matter, since he had cleared both of their schedules. âOther than that, itâs been pretty decent. Canât really complain, since I actually like training. How has your painting been going?â he asked with a slight smirk.

âAlright, so we donât visit any of those other games. We just visit your home, thatâs the point, right?â Frederick took a sip of his wine, letting it relax him more. âOkay, so if I die at your home, the same thing would happen if I died here. So basically, normal life,â he chuckled, shrugging his shoulders. He didnât see much to be worried about. Besides, what would kill him in a video game? He wasnât sure how the fact that the arcade would be closed would make a difference, but he pretended to understand for the sake of his boyfriend. âYour mother, then. Iâll remember that,â he smiled, slightly nervous at how his parents would react to meeting him. âDo you think sheâll like me? What would impress her? Is there any place to buy flowers in your game?â That would be the polite thing to do, in the very least. Frederick smiled happily at the idea of their getaway, and waited for Jax to start eating his food before taking his first bite. âI am very surprised. Itâs very nice, but was all of this to ask me to visit your home? You know I would have agreed regardless.â
âWell, I guess it is like normal life for you,â Jax chuckled, though he wasnât sure if Frederick was understanding how serious this was. Then again, maybe it was better that he wasnât scared. He wouldnât dwell on it any longer, figuring there was no need. âItâs hard to say, now. Youâll have to wait until you meet her. I donât see why she wouldnât like you, though. To impress my mother? Well, talk to her about training, I suppose. She likes any kind of action.â Jaxâs eyes widened slightly, shaking his head. âOh... no... donât bring her flowers. You can bring my dad flowers. Heâd love them. But my mom isnât really a flower person...â Cutting into his steak, he took a bite, satisfied at the taste. âNo. Stop trying to guess my plans,â he chuckled, shaking his head as he reached for his wine. âThat was just casual conversation. Youâre going to need a lot more patience with me before you find anything out.â

Frederick loved that they could go back and forth and joke around. Jaxâs sense of humor was one of his favorite things about him. âReally? Iâd love that. But why would it be dangerous?â he rose a brow. âIâm never careless, you know that. Wait, which one of them do I need to impress, your mother or father?â It was easier for Jax since Frederick only had his mother. Then again, she was a queen, so he knew that had been a bit intimidating. âWhat made you think of all of this?â
DJ was glad to hear that Frederick would want to go, since if he had said no he probably would have been a little upset. âWell, because Iâm from a video game. If we go there, and something bad were to happen, god forbid, there isnât much I could do to stop it. Like, for example: if I were to go visit another game, like Sugar Rush, where most of the racers here are from, and somehow I ended up dying, I would actually die. But in my home, if the same thing happened, my code would just reprogram itself, so I wouldnât actually die. You donât have a code, and even if you did... it wouldnât be mine. But, Iâm taking you when the arcade is closed, so we wonât have that problem,â Jax explained, knowing it probably made very little sense to him now.Â
âMy mother, 110 percent. Maybe even 150. My father gets impressed at the drop of a hat,â he chuckled. âIâve been thinking about it for a while, actually, I just never acted on it.â Their dinner came out shortly after their discussion, and as the waitress set their dishes down Jax took the opportunity to refill their glasses. âSo are you really surprised that I planned all of this?â

âSorry, /darling/,â Frederick rolled his eyes playfully. âMy mother is doing an amazing job, sheâs very strong. I just want to be ready to help if she needs it.â And he couldnât help but feel slightly unprepared. âHey, be nice! This is a romantic evening,â he laughed and took a sip of his drink, letting Jax take the lead in ordering for them. It was odd, having Jax do everything, but it was also really sweet. âHmm? Thatâs dangerous. What have you been thinking, exactly?â
âOh, it is? I hadnât noticed,â Jax quipped, laughing softly. Of course he was only messing around, clearly. He tried not to laugh too much when Frederick told him it was dangerous to have been thinking. âWell, it could be dangerous, actually. Iâve been thinking about taking you to visit my home. It wouldnât be dangerous for me, but it could... potentially, be, for you, if youâre careless. But I know youâre not careless, so it should be fine. And I can take you to my fatherâs home, first. Thatâs not dangerous at all,â he chuckled.Â

âSorry! Itâs just you arenât the most romantic person I know.â Frederick smiled, hoping that he hadnât really hurt Jaxâs feelings. He didnât seem upset at all. âI could be busy ruling a kingdom, how would you know? You work all the time,â he teased, narrowing his eyes at him. âOkayâŚso thereâs something to find out, I knew it! No, I havenât really looked.â He grabbed the menu, opening it quickly to choose something. âSalmon. There, that was easy,â he smiled and pushed the menu to the side. âWhat are you getting?â
âNot making it much better, dear,â Jax rose a brow, narrowing his eyes at Freddie playfully. âBecause youâre not King yet, and youâre here to be protected, not to rule over a Kingdom youâre not currently in. Your mother seems to be handling things well.â Waving off his comment, the blonde opened his menu, reading over it. âCongratulations, Sherlock Holmes,â he chuckled. âThat was quick. I think Iâm going to get steak.â Folding up his menu as well, he took another sip of his drink as the waitress came back to take their order. Jax ordered for the both of them, letting Freddie chime in on any specifics that he wanted for his meal. As soon as she was gone he turned his attention back to his boyfriend, gently nudging his foot with his own under the table. âIâve been thinking.â

âI absolutely did not think you could plan a romantic date,â Frederick shook his head, completely serious. Jax was fully capable, but he just couldnât picture him putting himself out there emotionally, and Frederick hadnât wanted to push him. He smiled at the waitress as she brought them some wine, taking the initiative to pour it for the both of them. âSorry, what? You did not.â He set the bottle down, narrowing his eyes at Jax from across the table before taking a sip of his wine. âYouâre worrying me a little bit, just so you know. Are we doing something or justâŚIâm so confused.â
âWow... I am truly hurt by that, Freddie,â DJ shook his head, pressing his hand to his heart, feigning disappointment. He would have poured the wine but Frederick had beaten him to it. Taking one the glasses, he watched his boyfriendâs expression as he confessed to clearing his schedule. âWhat? Itâs not like youâre busy ruling a kingdom from here. Relax...â Taking a sip of his drink, he placed it down, chuckling. âStop worrying. Everything is fine. Youâll find out as the night goes on. Have you figured out what you want yet?â
