No One is Too Small
There is this wonderful girl out there changing the world for the better that not many people know about. She is fighting for her life, and the life of everyone on the planet even though how have yet to be born, her name is Greta Thunberg. She is the leader of this fantastic movement called “School strike for climate” and yes, it is small, but it is catching eyes, whether it is because of the person in charge of the movement or the movement itself. This movement for those who do not know, is to skip school every Friday to get the attention of their government so they will take global warming as a serious threat and actually actively do something about it. At the moment there are regulations in place that were set in the Paris Agreement which dealt with greenhouse-gas-emissions mitigation, adaption, and finance, signed in 2016, but the governments around the world are not regulating it. The movement tries to grab the attention of those governments and says, “Why should we go to school if there is not even going to be a world for us when we are older”. I do not know why others are not joining this movement, because clearly this affects all of us. We are even feeling the negative affects to this day and still not many people are protesting. I think it has something to do with people not knowing how to protest, there is no visible platform for them to do so. Greta Thunberg and school goers have their skip school every Friday, but that does not help the average working man, or university student. But I think it is, it would just have to be on a large enough scale that companies could not punish those who protest, or large enough that students could not be punished for missing class, but no one wants to take that leap of faith, no one wants to be the martyr. There would not be a better way to say screw you to the government “do your job” than having a mass citywide strike, hell or even nationwide strike. That it though, it is because everyone is looking out for themselves, but sooner rather than later everyone will feel the negative affects of global-warming, and by then it will be too late. Not everything has to be on such a large scale though, every word or awareness helps fight for the cause, even a simple call to ones own city representative could go a long way. We are already getting close to the point of no return, and the world needs more Greta Thunberg’s.
