Never Never - A Poem by J H Martin
Never Never
This land is broken
The grass and trees
Are thick
Startled by its demons
A path cannot be found
Wandering
Stumbling
A starving pack
Has gathered
Their teeth sharp
Their nature cruel
Any chance of peace
Forgotten
Picking up
The bloody apron
I throw it on the pyre
I don’t want to be a soldier
But I don’t want to be oppressed

平凡 - A Poem by J H Martin
平凡
Many times
I have to crouch
To stay on
An even keel
Like the crescent moon
In the clear night sky
I do not move
From where I am
Distant
Harmless
Constant
The ground fills
With my shadow

Sweet Plum Stain - A Poem by J H Martin
Sweet Plum Stain
The wind
Has taken them
Why does it not end
Henan
Photograph
Sichuan
Deep fried yak
They are
My plum blossom
Stained like ink
On Spring Festival red
My skin
Still wears the scent

Lent - A Poem by J H Martin
Lent
The first sight of March
Can be too much
The rain brings with it
New blades
New needles
To scrape the calcium
New injections
For the pain
My window
Misted
I sit and listen
To the downpour
My golden lights
My long shadow
What more
Do you have for us

Parade - A Poem by J H Martin
Parade
Present a flower
Lie to the soul
There is
No end to this
The seasons
Will take the bloom
The winds
Will scatter the scent
Its name
Will be forgotten
Standing by
A concrete bench
I watch the city grow

Only Human - A Poem by J H Martin
Only Human
There is no call
There is no mail
Not from the
Photograph
Not from the
Time between
My love
That experience
Will not return
Not from that country
Far away
Not from this moment
Keeping on
Do I
Love you
Indeed I do
I’ve got to
Find me somebody
Before this feeling ends

Fluid - A Poem by J H Martin
Fluid
How much can I give
When it is never enough
The water does not reply
It becomes the pond
Which becomes the mirror
Not for the answer
To my question
But for the heavy rain

Pine Green - A Poem by J H Martin
Pine Green
Under the branches
I watch the rain fall
The cleaning is over
The broom put away
With nothing to do
But wait for the date
I pull my hood up
And fix my focus
Magpie
Sparrowhawk
I know you understand
When I think of
Moving on
The deep greens
Of the pine tree
They grow ever more vivid

月光花 - A Poem by J H Martin
月光花
The seasons pass
And the stockpile
Dwindles
These clothes
Do not cover the cost
Feeling the chill
I cough and I sneeze
Wretched
Alone
I shouldn’t smile but I do
Tonight
I have her full attention
Timeless
Delicate
Her beauty
Charms a lonely soul

Spring Chime - A Poem by J H Martin
Spring Chime
In this clear blue
February
Is that a fighter jet
I see
Could be near
Could be far
I don’t know
The map has tilted sideways
And the bell has lost its chime
Too old to fight
Too tired to argue
I tighten the straps
On my pack
The spring is coming
I can feel that winter chill

Greetings - A Poem by J H Martin
Greetings
Which greeting
Should I use
Between the calendar
And the Spring
A letter
A card
A handwritten note
Wiping my coat
I spread out the wax
This moment
This cloth
This grey winter patina
They do not
Register as news
On Mount Yoshino
On my back yard
The snow carries on falling

Thursday Mystery - A Poem by J H Martin
Thursday Mystery
This morning
The sky appears to be
Crying
The magpies
Chack chack chack
Maybe
There is something
I can’t see
Misted window
Shoulder pain
I sit
And I watch
Waiting for the rain to clear
Following the melody
I start to feel the doubt growing
Cold
Damp
Streaming
I wonder where it comes from
Empty
Faceless
Nowhere
Present
Who is asking the question
