well this just keeps happening - spent years trying to find a lovely song by Kodály from our childhood and once again the reason why we couldn't find it is because it turns out it's by Bartók - anyway listen to this mmmmm
we sang an english version, but the original hungarian is saying something like:
only tell me, my rose, by which road you leave me - and that road I'll plough with a [golden?] ploughshare - and I'll sow it with pearls and harrow it with my heavy tears
(any hungarians want to correct this? it's a very rough attempt)

People talk about the surprise albums from people like Taylor Swift or Beyoncé that drop with zero warning but I have just been existing in this world where every album I've ever heard in my life has been a surprise album because I didn't know that musicians had schedules that we could see

Yes I built this thing entirely backwards, yes I am aware there are better ways to do this, no I would never do it this way again. I regret every choice. I wouldn't change a thing. He's perfect.

According to my timeline:
the judgement of Paris wouln't happen right after Thetis' wedding, since Paris would need to be at least a teenager before Achilles is even born. Or we can have an older Paris, but he's supposed to be younger than Hector ( does he?), and this way Hector can be around everyone else's age.
the goddesses were arguing for years, which in god time frames is possible
on the 9th year of war, Helen says it's been 20 years from her kidnapping. So, there's 10-11 years of preparation for the war
Telemachus is 9-10 years at the 9th year of war, so Odysseus should've been able to come home during the 10 years of preparations for Troy. He didn't come home once the war started.
Odysseus left Penelope recently married and an infant child. So he might have asked for Penelope's hand around the time of the Pact of Tyndareus, only they didn't marry right away but more than ten years after Menelaus' wedding: ten years of war preparations + the time needed for Hermione to be born.
Unless Odysseus asked to marry Penelope while she was a child, which could happen but nope nope (and in that case, Penelope would be much younger than Helen), she was in her mid twenties when she finally got married the poor thing, and she's always left waitinggg.
Paris is in his mid-thirties at least in the Iliad, because teenager + 19 years.
Menelaus and Odysseus, who are close in age, must be around forty in the Iliad. Since they were at least teenagers when the Pact happened, then give it at least one year for Hermione to be born + 19 years.
Odysseus must be around fifty at the end of the Odyssey, at least. I'll graciously delete this specific item from my memory.
Achilles and Patroclus are near thirty, if we'll have them as teenagers at Aulis.
I have no idea where to place Diomedes. Let's say around thirty, but age him as needed. I just wanted to mention him, honestly. Because it's him.
Of course, we're talking mythology here. I don't think it was meant to have exact times.
But this is the timeline I'll use for my fics (maybe) and I share it in case it works for someone else.

So I recently got into the Inheritance Cycle, and I have a theory regarding the most recent book, Murtagh.
I think The Spine mountains are named after whatever fuckoff-huge mind lives below them.

i think there’s divinity in gross and ugly things. i think the radical love and acceptance of what is weird and nasty is angelic and i think there is something holy about indulging in the neglected/looked down on/outcast/unacceptable parts of this world. you should let yourself be weird

When people get a little too gung-ho about-
wait. cancel post. gung-ho cannot be English. where did that phrase come from? China?
ok, yes. gōnghé, which is…an abbreviation for “industrial cooperative”? Like it was just a term for a worker-run organization? A specific U.S. marine stationed in China interpreted it as a motivational slogan about teamwork, and as a commander he got his whole battalion using it, and other U.S. marines found those guys so exhausting that it migrated into English slang with the meaning “overly enthusiastic”.
That’s…wild. What was I talking about?

"if you ship this thing it's because you're too naïve to understand that it's toxic and that you wouldn't like a relationship like this" actually it's because I see one of them as a mentos drop and the other as a bottle of coke zero and I want to watch the mess they'll be together

Create your own mythology
No seriously
The poets of our mythology worshipped these deities too, if they create it why can't you?
Recognize the symbolism of the gods, recognize the symbolism of these tales. I consider my play of my dnd character Saix to be a devotional act to Hypnos, as he was a cleric to Remnus(God of Sleep), and ended up taking the role of sleep god for Himself. Do not be too strict, for the symbols of the Gods are fluid in their interpretation.
They will love what you do to literature that features them, even if it may put them in an "evil" light, in hellenism there isn't pure good or evil, only balance

thank you BarBar for publishing my story Within the Wall! this is such an odd story i truly didn’t think i would ever find a home for it. if you like rats, religious themes, and anthropomorphized animal stories like Watership Down and Warriors, i would appreciate your reads :)
this story contains depictions of violence, animal death, and religious imagery. please read at your own discretion!
