Link Your Aadhaar Card with PF Account via UMANG App: A Concise Guide
The Government of India has launched Unified Mobile Application (UMANG) app to provide the citizens with the facility to access different government services of both central and state from one platform. The primary function of the UMANG app is to provide unified integration with common customer-oriented services like DigiLocker, Aadhaar, National Pension Scheme, EPF, among others.
It was recently announced by the Employees' Provident Fund Organisation or the EPFO about its initiative to launch the facility to link UAN number to Aadhaar card via the UMANG mobile application for all Provident Fund account holders. EPFO account holders can now avail the service to link Aadhaar number to their PF account through the UMANG app along with the service already provided by the EPFO on its official website.
How to Link Aadhaar Card to PF account via UMANG App
The process to link your Aadhaar card with your PF account is simple, and consists of these following steps:
First of all, go to the “Apple iOS” (for iPhone users) or “Google Play Store” (for Android users) and download the UMANG app on your smartphone.
Once you open the app, you can see a number of online services and facilities listed under the app.
Now, click on the “EPFO” option.
Click on the 'eKYC Services' option.
Now select the option mentioned as “Aadhaar Seeding”.
Enter your 12-digit UAN number.
You will receive an OTP on your mobile number that is registered with your PF account.
In the next step, enter the OTP in the field provided.
Enter your details as mentioned in your Aadhaar like name, address, gender, etc., and click submit.
That’s all; now your Provident Fund account will be seeded with your Aadhaar number.
However, if you want to link your Aadhaar card with your Provident Fund account by visiting EPFO’s official website, you can still do that. Just follow the steps mentioned here to link Aadhaar to Provident Fund account through the website of EPFO:
Select the “Online Services” section after you visit the official website of the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation.
Select the “eKYC” portal link.
Choose the option named “Link UAN Aadhaar”.
An OTP will be sent to your UAN-registered mobile number.
Enter the OTP for verification.
Provide your 12-digit Aadhaar number.
Once again, an OTP will be sent to your registered mobile phone number/email address. After the OTP is verified, and your details stored in the UAN portal are checked with the Aadhaar details provided by you, the process to link your PF account to your Aadhaar card will be complete.

Microsoft To Offer Identification Services For The Government
The Government of India has come one step closer in emulating the leader of the free world and is well on its path to introduce a ‘Big Brother’ type surveillance system. The latest in surveillance news comes from the services offered by the leading software giant Microsoft. Microsoft has pitched various case scenarios where its software used by a vast number of people such as Skype can identify and authenticate the Aadhar identity of a user.
While it may sound like a scene from a Hollywood movie, the truth is Microsoft has already had such a system in place. Windows 10 supports the iris authentication of users to log onto their computers. The same principle will be applied to identify users especially those trying to access government services. Microsoft India’s Chairman, Mr. Bhaskar Pramanik has said that their popular VOIP service, Skype can perform iris authentication of users accessing government websites by accessing the Aadhaar database. The Aadhaar card, which is a unique national identity card, has the cardholder’s iris and fingerprint scans recorded and stored in a database managed by the UIDAI.

Pilot Projects: The thought of using iris scans stored by the Aadhar database was already in progress before the news was announced. Microsoft has already started a pilot project where they seek to integrate their VOIP software with the iris scan database stored by UIDAI. Tests are being carried out to check if Skype can actually grab the iris details of users accessing government websites and cross reference them with the scans stored in the database. For the project to see more definitive results, the database of iris scans need to be fully integrated which is what Microsoft is hoping to achieve by the end of February.
Historical trends: Earlier, In March of 2015, Vodafone had decided to test out the Aadhaar verifications when issuing new SIM cards, both for prepaid and postpaid connections. This project was launched in Kolkata and the surrounding regions. Following this, other major telcos have begun using the Aadhaar database for verification when giving out mobile connections. Companies like Airtel, Idea and Vodafone have been using eKYC verifications using the Aadhaar database. This has also been carried out due to the notification by the Department of Telecom of India
The scope of integration of the Aadhaar card into various aspects of our lives seems to be ever increasing. While many proponents of the card swear by its utility and how much money it helps save the government by deleting ghost identities and accounts, others are beginning to feel that all the information being stored may end up being misused in the wrong hands.
