Lord Varys the Spider, Master of Whispers

"A eunuch has no honor, and a spider does not enjoy the luxury of scruples, my lord."

A major character I've somehow managed to miss out, it's our favourite spymaster. A Blackfyre restorationist, a team smallfolk utilitarian social engineer, or a merman infiltrator? Either way, one of the most iconic characters of the series. Also, I feel an understated comedian. His Briar Rabbit act at the end of Storm of Swords always cracks me up - "no Tyrion, please don't kill your father, please don't take the second exit on the left, climb the ladder two floors up, then third door on the right, I beseech you!"

Honestly, not my finest paint job - I've got very into En Grisaille (paint as greyscale and use inks and washes to add colour), but here it didn't work perfectly and left the purple a little dark. Also with all those big blocks of fabric I wish I'd pushed myself a bit harder and added some designs - there's a little bit on the yellow vest but it's hard to make out. Still, I'm happy with the face, and I love how much personality comes from the clasped hands pose.

Lord Kevan Lannister, Hand of the King

"Ser Kevan seldom "had a thought" that Lord Tywin had not had first."

(The thought here being "ow! A crossbow bolt!") My second take on Ser Kevan, here a little worse for wear. This ones the official mini, and I love his jowly bulldog look, I think they nailed how he looks in my minds eye. I also love his outfit, the minis don't always lean into the gaudy fashions of the books, but this one is pretty suitably stylish.

As you may have guessed from the crossbow bolt, this is one I adjusted for a little diorama scene, hence no base here. I'm happy with the paint job, the red cloak isnt perfect but I always like a mix of fabrics and metals.

The Boltons do slay in all senses of the word. You do have to hand it to them for achieving a level of cunt few other houses have

fire and blood’s biggest weakness is that there’s only one bolton mention in the whole thing and it’s teenage barba bolton trying to marry aegon the miserable so that the crown will feed her starving people because cregan stark seemingly just isn’t. i need to know more about them and what they were getting up to but well. peaceful lands and well behaved people rarely make history😇

love that arya serving as roose's cupbearer served to open her eyes to the way in which class and status literally erases the smallfolk from the perceived realities of their lords (a lesson further reinforced in her travels with sandor where simply wearing ratty clothes is enough for knights to just not notice the most recognizably marred face and most wanted man in all of westeros) and then in the show serving as tywin's cupbearer was just "we wish charles dance was our dad :( he would be so stern but also loving to us :(( we would impress him with our gumption i mean sorry arya would impr-"

the thing w what is dorne based on is ‘dornish = cornish dorne is cornwall’ and ‘the dornish marcher lords to secure a disputed conquest is exactly what was happening to wales in the medieval period dorne is wales’ both hold water they’re both reasonable observations. however they’re both mainly used to argue dorne is white (i assume to make the targaryens look less shitty for the everything) which it just isn’t its a combination of both of the above turkey and moorish spain. theres several diasporas in dorne (some of which are white) which is its own can of worms but ‘how do we feel about grrm’s treatment of this group with brown skin hooked noses black eyes and spicy food in his 90s fantasy series’ is not a problem best solved by pretending they were always meant to be white

you know that tweet that was like ‘if youre creating a fantasy world why would it include sexism or homophobia 🤨 weirdo of you to put that in. why can’t everyone just be happy and liberated’ and how it completely ruined 2010s booktok fantasy. yeah asoiaf doesnt adhere to that a woman having sex outside of wedlock is ruinous to her reputation daemon taking her out on the town to specifically publicly do this and alicent taking issue with it both make perfect sense in universe its a mock medieval setting. canonically EVERYONE cares who rhaenyra has sex with it is an extremely significant plot point in f&b and hotd. alicent in ep4 is viciously jealous of rhaenyras freedom compared to her own continued marital rape/concerned rhaenyra might have been taken advantage of by daemon/judgemental of rhaenyra’s sexuality due to her conservative upbringing etc its a complex scene theyre complex characters. i can like rhaenyra and not personally care who she has sex with and say ‘a lot of the fandom wilfully misinterprets/underinterprets a scene to fit a narrative in which alicent is a onedimensional bitch’ those are not mutually exclusive
