FALLING BEHIND
I moved to a new city.
June is dawning down on me.
Mumbattan was your typical modern midtown city, both pleasant and busy. The overcrowded train moves from station to station, taking all of its passengers to their stops. The sound of the cars honking due to the busy traffic, as well as the different music that they play, varying from blues to lively music, is what makes Mumbattan home. Some may think it’s overwhelming and over the top, but for you, Mumbattan is home.
No matter where you went or where you tried to stay, you always came back to Mumbattan. It was the place where you felt like you actually belonged, where you had finally made friends, and where you had made memories, both good and bad. These are all the things that made Mumbattan home. The reason you moved to Mumbattan over a year ago was for your academics, but now you feel like you could stay here forever.
The end of May is on its way and June will start to roll in. With that, school is going to end, and the start of summer will begin. Everyone will start making plans with their friends on what they want to do and when they’ll do it. You and your friends Pavitr and Charlie had some activities planned out, which consisted of picnics, going to the beach, and going camping. You couldn’t wait for June to roll in so that you and your friends could finally have some time together and hang out.
And all that I can find
A sickly romance in the air
Lovers stroll without a care in sight.
Ooh, this can't be right.
Walking around, you feel something is off. There’s this sickly romantic feeling in the air. This can’t be right. This atmosphere is different; you've never felt this in all your time staying here in Mumbattan. Couples walking past you without a care in the world makes you sick. More importantly, it makes you feel out of place. You’ve never had anyone remotely attracted to you, and seeing all these people practically drown each other in all of their love feels like salt being rubbed into your wound.
'Cause the sun's engaged to the sky
And my best friend's found a new guy
It’s bright out, with the sun's rays shining down on the city of Mumbattan. The sun, oh how it compliments the clear skies beautiful color! They matched perfectly, almost as if to remind you of how you have never found someone who compliments you. Whether it was someone the complete opposite of you or someone who matched your energy, you never had it.
You walk around once more and come across a sight you never thought you would ever see. It was some guy, and he was with Charlie. You had no idea who this guy was or how he was related to Charlie; for all you know, it could’ve been her cousin. You tried not to jump to conclusions so quickly, but you couldn’t help it.
It was like everyone was just trying to rub their relationships in your face. What hurts the most is the fact that Charlie never thought to tell you about this mystery guy. She obviously wasn’t obligated to tell you anything, but it still hurt. You two were the best of friends, and you thought she would have definitely trusted you enough to confide in you about something like this. Everything just seems to be going wrong today.
I'm only getting older.
I've never had a shoulder to cry on.
Someone to call mine
Ever since you were young, you had always dreamt about some prince charming saving you, sweeping you off your feet, and you both living happily ever after. You are now 16 and have never come close to finding this prince charming. All the times you’ve cried over not feeling like you’re good enough or deserving for someone to even look at you like you’ve done something outstanding or to be looked at like you’re some sort of celestial being sent from the heavens
Even when you've cried, you’ve always felt alone. You’ve never had a shoulder to cry on. There is no one to console you and tell you that everything is going to work out and that someday you will find your prince charming. Maybe even tell you that you are deserving and that what you already do is enough. But alas, a girl can dream.
Everybody's falling in love, and I'm falling behind.
Touched the ocean, fell right in
I stepped outside and burned my skin.
My life won't go my way.
Today you were supposed to go hang out with both Charlie and Pavitr at the beach. You all needed the time to relax after having to deal with the stress of school. When you got there, you spotted Pavitr waving at you. You walked over and sat down next to him, asking if Charlie had arrived yet. He answered with a simple no and a cute smile. You smiled back and quickly turned around to look for Charlie, feeling awkward and with your face burning with the realization that you thought Pavitr was cute. He was one of your best friends, and to think that would just make everything awkward.
You were fortunate enough to get a message from Charlie, who did not let you go back to your train of thought. When you read the message, you accidentally let out a scoff. Charlie had said she had made plans with someone and couldn’t plan to bail out. You three had planned to go to the beach for two weeks, and she just bailed.
"What’s the matter? Something wrong?" Pavitr asks with a worried face.
"Charlie bailed on us." You said, your face clearly stating that you found this annoying. Recently, Charlie has been bailing out on you both, with no clear explanation as to why.
Pavitr nodded in response. It starts to feel awkward, as Charlie was mainly the one who talked and made it feel lively. You can’t help but look at Pavitr, his tan skin, his cute pout, and him in general really.
"So, what do you want to do now?" Pavitr asks, tilting his head left, only making him cuter. "Hellooo! [reader]! You ok?" Pavitr questioned you, not sure whether you were even paying attention.
"hm? Oh! Uh, what'd you say? I’m sorry, I sort of spaced out." You murmured, feeling embarrassed.
"I asked if there was anything you wanted to do." He asks again.
"We can just do whatever! I don’t really mind." You nervously chuckle, not wanting to make a fool out of yourself once more.
The both of you ended up just lounging around while occasionally going into the ocean and splashing water at each other. The way you both are acting might even make some people think you are a couple. What they don’t know is that the two of you are just a bunch of lovesick fools who don’t know how to tell each other how they feel.

Hope that I'll find someone too to love
As you lie down on your bed, you can’t help but think about Pavitr. You wonder if he’s ever thought about you the way that you do about him. Feeling uncertain about whether he might like you or not, you look back on your memories for any signs that he might actually harbor feelings for you. Before you can get any further, the music changes to a different song. The Girl from Ipanema starts playing, and you remember hearing from Pavitr that this was one of the songs he liked. Maybe these were signs from the universe that you were meant for each other.
Because
The sun's engaged with the sky.
And my best friend's found a new guy.
I'm only getting older.
You had gotten a message from Charlie; she apologizes for not being able to hang out with both you and Pavitr. You answer by telling her that it was all right and that you both could talk about it some other time, not wanting to talk to her at the moment. Nothing was going the way you wanted it to. You were only getting older; maybe it was time to tell Pavitr about your feelings. Who knows? Maybe you won't even be able to tell him.

Someone to call mine
You remember all the times your love has been unrequited and the countless times you have cried over these heartbreaks. You didn’t want it to happen again. You also didn’t want to lose your chance at finally being able to feel cherished and loved. Maybe falling in love is just not your thing.
Meeting up with Pavitr did not go as you expected. You want to just cry, cry, and cry. You felt miserable. Pavitr had been acting a bit too happy, so naturally, you asked him what had him acting all excited. You didn’t expect him to tell you he had feelings for someone. It felt like your whole world had stopped. It feels like everyone is falling in love and you’re falling behind.

Someone asked me what I thought about the new Mutant Mayhem movie that’s coming out soon. And… I have some thoughts.
First off, the way they asked was very judgmental. Their tone was very “Doesn’t it look bad?”
And that I think is a red flag. The movie isn’t out yet. There’s barely even been a couple trailers. And yet I’ve still seen multiple people online and irl (not just this person) saying that “it looks bad” and “they’re too young” and “I don’t like the new April design”.
Alright here’s where I go off.
I’m a rise fan. If you know anything about me, then that would be inherently obvious to you. My favorite iteration of TMNT is the 2018 version. It is the first tmnt show I’ve ever seen and it introduced me to a whole new world of shows and characters and fandom. The animation is gorgeous, the writing is super funny, the characters are so good.
There is so much that I could tell you about Rise that I love. But guess what? At first, I didn’t like this show.
Not for any good reason mind you. I saw some YouTubers and reviewers that I trusted tear the first few episodes to pieces and point out every little flaw it had (real or fake). And my young, easily-influenced brain saw these adults ripping apart a kids show and thought “Oh, it must be bad if everyone is this mad”. So I didn’t watch it.
Then, years later, I noticed a LOT of people from a previous fandom I was in start to move to Rise after the other fandom started to die.
The content looked good and the small amount of plot I picked up from comics and art looked interesting so I decided to sit down and watch it. The first season was on Netflix which I already had so I wasn’t losing anything by doing so.
And guess fricking what?!
I loved it. Everything about that show made (and still makes) me so happy. I love every part of it. Even the flaws that I am mature enough to admit that it has.
And there are still people out there who hate on Rise. Not as many as there were, but still. And I can almost guarantee you that they either haven’t watched the show or they haven’t given it a fair chance if they did.
And by GOD IF THIS HAPPENS TO MUTANT MAYHEM I WILL TEAR THIS PLACE TO THE GROUND SO HELP ME
I’m already seeing people break down the trailers and designs and hate on them.
Don’t get me wrong. You are allowed to dislike things. Hell, I have many a show or movie that I don’t like. But I’ve at least seen all of them. And I don’t go around spreading hate. Every time I don’t like a show or movie, I can always see why someone else would.
But that isn’t what’s happening here. I fear we might get stuck in another cycle of hating something right after it comes out, then finding out it’s actually really good years later.
So, until the movie comes out and I’ve had time to sit on it, I’m just going to say that I’m excited. It looks really cute, and I can’t wait to find out what the story is going to be.
Anyways, those are my thoughts.
