IBO and WfM are a fascinating pair of shows to me, because despite starting in such a similar place. With Iron Blooded Orphans season 1 Dudes Rock, and The Witch from Mercury season 1 Gals Rule. The two shows end up going in radically different directions. Transitioning into Iron Blooded Orphans season 2 The Overwhelming Power of the State, and The Witch from Mercury season 2 I Can Fix Her.

Hi! I’m aerial. Here’s a picture of my WIP Guncannon Revive to entice you into reading this rant about G:Universe!
Tumblr media
Okay so I’ve had this on my mind a while and I couldn’t really think of a place to let it out so I’m turning to Tumblr.
I think G:Universe, the sort of “timeline” if u will of the game SD GUNDAM: Battle Alliance, is very cool and deserves both more recognition and an anime or game with a more serious tone.
To start, Battle Alliance is just good hearted fun, like at it’s core. Zip around in SD forms of various Mobile Suits with a limited move pool and just bash things, the game isn’t much more than spamming X and Y if you’re an Infighter main like me.
But my favourite thing and ultimately the thing making me write about it is the story, or rather the story that could be told if it was given time. As a brief summary that avoids as many spoilers as possible, You (The Commander) and your Programmer buddy (U guys are definitely dating.) Juno Astartes get sucked into a simulation that’s mixing up all of the Gundam timelines, and you gotta fix it.
It’s fun, you can beat up Grazes from IBO at the same time as fighting Gundam Epyon, it’s a blast. But there’s a few moments in the game that make me think it could be so much more, stuff like: (And this may contain spoilers for various pieces of Gundam media)
- Juno learning that many Gundam pilots, who are often abused and mistreated, normally all come to the same conclusion that war is pointless. It’s a few voicelines, with Juno claiming that that “Isn’t how war works.”
- An almost immediate camaraderie between Orga and Io Flemming
- Juno accidentally messing up a mission by altering the timeline to save a character.
These are just some of the things, there’s way more and there’s stuff I haven’t seen yet as I’ve not completed the game. Juno repeatedly talks about altering timelines to save certain characters or to change the outcome of a battle, something she’s often told is futile.
And I just think it would be really cool to see an anime or game that takes this idea into a more fleshed out thing. Gundam Universes collapsing onto one another and as the main characters try to put it back together, they start trying to mess with the established timeline of canons. It would be awesome to see how different characters from across the different universes would interact, more than just the one line (or two sometimes) shared between Co-Pilots when they spawn into missions.
I dunno, like I said it was a rant (and i’m not sure if anyone’s actually going to read this) but I felt the need to talk about it. Hope you like the Guncannon Revive!
