hairtie with lee jihoon.
warning: reader has long hair.
a/n: my life hasn't been the same since realising he wears one on his wrist and i'm surprised i haven't noticed it sooner. but i have now and my life has been changed.
Tumblr media
sweeping the hair out of your face, you mentally cursed yourself for not checking the weather when you knew you'll be having dinner at an outdoor restaurant with jihoon. you would have definitely worn your hair up if you had any idea it was going to be this windy tonight.
you place the glass you were trying to drink from down on the table before you so you can gather your hair aside and over your shoulder, hoping this would keep them from falling over your face but a strong breeze sweeps through yet again, causing your hair to go everywhere.
with an exasperated sigh, you gather your hair up into a ponytail as you rummage through your purse with your free hand to look for a hairtie, no longer having any regard for how long it took for you to style them. you mentally cursed yourself for the second time that night when you remember you'd left it on your dresser instead after the last time you'd used it.
you're about to release your hair from your grip when an arm appears right in front of your face and you look up to see your boyfriend. his face tilted down at you and a hint of a cheeky smile on his plush, rosy lips.
"take it," he moves his arm slightly, signalling for you to take the hairtie on his wrist.
you take it but not without giving him a questioning look first, "why do you have an extra hairtie?"
he sits down opposite you with a nonchalant shrug as he pulls his chair in, "i knew you probably needed one. it's not the first time you forgot to bring one with you."
you loop the hairtie around your ponytail one last time then rest your hands on the table, "thank you. my hair was really starting to annoy me. if you were to come even a few minutes later, i probably would have went and gotten my head shaved."
jihoon lets out a hearty laugh, he always found your dramatics amusing. "thank god there were no traffic and i came right on time then."
he reaches across the table to move a strand of hair you'd missed away from your face.
"why are you so surprised i have an extra hairtie though?" his soft eyes meet yours, "haven't you noticed i've started wearing one on my wrist ever since i started dating you?"

aquarium date
Tumblr media
wonwoo x reader
synopsis: when you visit the aquarium with wonwoo
word count: 678
genre/contains: fluff, idk if this is what you call a headcanon, but its a list of moments I think you would have with wonwoo at an aquarium
a/n: I just saw this picture and idk if it's real or anything, but I just couldn't get wonwoo aquarium date out of my head...
.・。.・゜✭・..・。.・゜✭・.
• he brought his camera, you thought he would want to take pictures of you with the fishes, but he ends up mostly taking pictures of the actual animals instead… making you slightly pouty before the exhibitions distracted you.
• It’s not his fault though. the brightly colored creatures are truly fascinating, and what fascinated you, even more than them, was your boyfriend; marveling at them for minutes before snapping a picture of one that caught his interest.
• when you are distracted by some creature, eyes wide and the light from the tanks reflecting off of them, he took a picture of you.
• truth be told he snapped many pictures of you, he was just very good at making them as candid as possible, not letting you see him capture you in his lens a single time.
• in front of a huge tank, filled with fishes, sharks, and different kinds of snails. you rested your head on his shoulder, just letting yourself rest in the darkness. it almost felt like being at the cinema, the square of light in front of you so filled with life. the bubble the two of you had created there was completely filled with peace and comfortable silence as you watched the water and animals.
• that is, until a group of school-aged children walked in, bringing all the noise of the entire world with them. even though the peaceful bubble burst, you just looked at each other and chuckled as you made your way into the next room.
• “oh my god, wonwoooo! they’re so slimyyy,” you shouted as you got to pet one of the inhabitants of a petting pond. wonwoo just laughed at you and your efforts of not immediately pulling back your hand to get away from the animal.
• wonwoo would like one of the crabs, but he would probably refuse to touch it anyways. “no, he seems like he doesn’t want to be disturbed, I’ll just converse with him instead,” he said as he stared intensely at the crab, which honestly looked like it was staring back at him. you thought it might’ve been thanking him, but you laughed it off soon thereafter, seeing a very funny-looking starfish that pulled your attention to it.
• you ate sandwiches in the cafeteria, while you talked about memories of underwater creatures from your childhood. you told him about how you once dreamt about owning a crab, but after having seen your friend’s crab literally cut one of the fishes that lived in the same tank into tiny little pieces, you had changed your mind and opted for a hamster.
• wonwoo told you about how he had once been swimming in a lake, and seen something move in the water, until this very day he still swore that it wasn’t one of his cousins, it was definitely some kind of giant sea creature (or possibly a huge, like HUGE fish, but that’s just a maybe).
• he bought you a small stuffed shark keychain at the gift shop at the end, and you bought him a black bucket hat, also with a shark on it. “couples outfits, or well, were matching,” he said and smiled a small smile while he watched you attach the shark to your bag.
• he blushed when you told him that you had enjoyed the date so much, that you wanted to go there again with him, maybe in a couple years, maybe that crab would still be there, waiting for him to come back and talk to him. it wasn’t because of the crab that he blushed ofc, it was because you wouldn’t stop playing with the tiny shark on your bag the entire time, and the way your face was lit up, just talking about what a great time you had been having with him. he loved your company, and he loved you. how could he not feel flushed when you looked so lovely and showed him your love for him with pretty much everything you did?

Vernon’s car sits in your driveway. The sight of his little red sedan evokes a strong sense of familiarity, almost as if it’s yours. It’s survived high school and his first three years of college, up till now, though the engine sometimes shakes the car a little too much and the air conditioning chooses to work less often than you would prefer. Still, the one time Vernon mentioned getting a new car, you nearly cried, so you don’t let yourself complain too much.
He waits for you, keys in hand, as you tug on your shoes and sprint out the door with a shout of goodbye to your parents. Your shoes nearly slip off because you didn’t put them on all the way and they’re still untied when you make it to the front seat, slamming the door shut behind you and pulling on your seatbelt.
“You didn’t have to rush,” Vernon says, barely sparing a glance at you. You do a supreme job pretending it doesn’t bother you.
“Yeah, but my dad is watching hockey,” you say. Though it’s been years since Vernon has been to your house for a “play date,” you know the memory of your father yelling at the television as if the players can hear him isn’t one that Vernon (or anyone for that matter) can forget easily.
“You know if you move out, you don’t have to hear them,” he says, finally glancing at you before turning his head to watch the road as he backs down the driveway.
“If I move out, I also have to pay my bills on my own,” you say.
“You have three job offers and you haven’t even graduated yet,” Vernon says. “Of all our friends, you are the most financially stable, so don’t you dare try that argument on me.” This debate has been going on ever since Vernon announced he was moving out; two years in the dorms on campus proved more than enough for him.
You don’t understand why he’s so insistent about you moving out. Sure you complain about your parents occasionally but not enough to really matter, and he knows how grateful you are that they’ve let you stay in your childhood room and rarely let you pay for anything.
So why? You set your eyes on him, with his annoyingly perfect features that you’ve known most of your life. He studies the road, indifferent to your glare and undistracted.
That’s the Vernon you know: focused on the moment, and never noticing you. You know how pitiful you sound, pining for someone for so long who has never once spared you a second look. Still, before everything else, he’s your friend, your best friend. You won’t ruin that just because you caught feelings.
“Why are we going an hour away again?” You ask, resting your back against the cushioned seats and turning your head to the window to watch the scenery pass by. It’s easier to avoid thinking about those feelings when you aren’t staring at him.
“Because the people running the rescue needed a volunteer to pick up the kittens.”
“And why am I here?”
“So I don’t get kidnapped or murdered,” Vernon says nonchalantly.
“How am I going to prevent you from getting kidnapped or murdered?”
“Strength in numbers?” He takes his eyes off the road for half a second to flash a smile at you.
You rolled your eyes, plugging your phone into the aux. “You should have asked Jihoon. Between his gym obsession and unbridled rage, the nonexistent potential kidnappers-murderers would never stand a chance.”
“And he has good taste in music. Bump,” he says, bracing his arm in front of you as he hit a particularly large pothole. He drops his arm as soon as the car stops shaking and you ignore the urge to catch his hand in yours.
“He does not, and you better not be implying I have bad taste!” You dig through your playlists, trying to find the Vernon-approved one.
“I was implying but now I’ll outright say it.”
“His playlist is just Bruno Mars and Harry Styles and one random Ariana Grande song.” You hold up the shared playlist for good measure. Vernon ignores you, refusing to take his eyes off the road.
“Okay, not good taste, but better than yours.”
“What is wrong with my taste in music?”
“How have we been friends this long?” You ask. You can’t quite say it with a straight face; the idea of not having Vernon in your life is an absurdity you can’t imagine.
“By the way, you need to give directions,” Vernon says. “I sent you the address last week.”
You shake your head but dig through the messages to find the address, putting Jihoon’s playlist on to prove your point. Vernon pretends not to care, singing along to “Leave the Door Open,” as if he didn’t make fun of Jihoon a week ago because he played the song on repeat during his four hour shift at the cafe.
When you’re being honest with yourself, you know you want more than riding in Vernon’s front seat and making pointless jokes. More than once, you’ve imagined what it’s like to go home with him and stay there, to wake up in his bed because you share it with him, instead of the times you drank too much and he slept on the couch (because of course Vernon is the type of person to give up his bed for his friend). Moments like that make it harder to remember that he doesn’t feel the same way.
You were doing a great job of paying attention until the second half hour, when you got stuck in standstill traffic. In your mind, only a few minutes pass, but suddenly Vernon shakes your shoulder and your heart shoots bolts of adrenaline into your veins to wake you up.
“We’re here,” he says softly. He holds your phone with the directions still open. The engine shakes the car; he must have literally just stopped. It takes a couple moments to remember that he drove you into the middle of nowhere to pick up some kittens to foster them (another bullet point in the ever growing list of why you love Vernon: he does absolutely insane things for what he loves. What would it be like to be the person he loves?). He stares at you for a moment and for some godforsaken reason, you think he’s going to kiss you.
He points to the corner of your lips. “You drooled.” He laughs at your groan, turning in his seat and cutting the engine, tossing your phone into your lap.
The door creaks when you pull on the handle but it swings open. You are extra careful when you swing it shut, being as gentle as possible. Vernon raises his eyebrows but doesn’t comment on it. You stretch until your back finally pops, jogging to catch up with Vernon who didn’t wait for you, striding up the smooth driveway.
Warm pastel yellow greets you, a cute door that matches the array of flowers on the front porch perfectly. Vernon sneezes and presses the doorbell, stepping back to wait, shoulder pressing against yours. Even though his jean jacket and your cotton t-shirt separate you from really touching him, you feel a different sort of warm, a tingly feeling that spreads from your insides and makes you feel giddy.
After a couple minutes, the door opens, revealing a smiling woman and a child that can’t be more than five clinging to her leg. “You must be the fosters! Sorry, it’s a little hectic today, but come on in!” She ushers you in, picking up the child.
Some psychopath. You glance at Vernon but he turns his back on you, following the woman down the hall to a closed door. Whatever, it’s not like he needs to see you to know the jokes you make.
“We’ve been keeping them away from the rest of the house since it gets so chaotic,” she says. “I’d love to keep them but we’ve got two toddlers and a hyperactive dog.” She sounds genuinely regretful, which you understand as soon as you step over the baby gate and into the room. It looks like it was a spare bedroom (you can’t help but think it’s for the children when they get too big to share a room), but the bed has been stripped and there isn’t any other furniture. In the middle of the room, in a nest of blankets, a grown cat sits and licks tiny balls of fur that mewl softly in protest. The black cat pauses in her grooming, studying you and Vernon while the woman and her child watch from the door.
“Do you want to tell the lovely couple what we named them?” She asks the child.
You freeze. Did she just call you a couple? “We’re not–” Vernon stops you with a hand on your arm, sitting cross legged on the ground and facing the woman and her child.
“The momma is Pinky,” the child mumbles, barely audible. “‘Cause she has really pink feet.”
You smile at her, though you’re still reeling from Vernon’s hand, which slips from your arm to interlace his fingers with yours. “Did you name her?”
The child grins. “Yeah! But my brother named the babies.” She pouts.
“I think Pinky is a great name,” you say. Vernon grunts in agreement. Pinky stands and wanders slowly toward Vernon’s hand (the one not holding yours), which he holds outstretched while looking away. Looking at you. You get to see the exact moment Pinky brushes her head against his fingers, watch the corners of his mouth creep up in satisfaction, watch his eyes slip away from yours as he strokes her head. She lets off a low rumble as she purrs, brushing her whole body against his foot before leaving him to study you.
You’ve never thought of yourself as a cat-person or a dog-person (you love them all the same), but a life-time as Vernon’s best friend (and an abundance of cat cafes) have trained you in how to get cat’s to befriend you. You let Pinky move however she wants, hyper aware of Vernon’s hand squeezing yours once before letting go.
He shifts to look at the kittens, earning a wary glance from Pinky. She watches him for a moment before turning back to you, brushing against your hand and eventually turning her back on you, purring like the engine of Vernon’s car the entire time.
“What’s this one called?” Vernon asks, pointing to the orange colored kitten.
“That’s Muffin, Momma named her,” the child explains. She stands at the baby gate alone, her mother off somewhere getting all of their supplies so that you and Vernon can leave with them. Her little fingers curl around the metal. “The black one is Fried and the white one is Egg. That’s what my brother named them.”
Vernon nods, smiling over the tiny kittens. Pinky finally decides she doesn’t want him quite so close, leaving your side to place herself between him and the kittens. He laughs, sliding back to sit next to you.
“There’s no way you don’t end up adopting at least one of them,” you whisper.
“I have self-control.”
“Wanna bet?”
Vernon turns to look at you except he’s much too close, nose just barely brushing against yours. It takes all of your willpower not to glance at his lips, infinitely harder when you realize you can feel his breath on your lips. Would he kiss you back? You push that fantasy away immediately: it’s Vernon. He’d push you away and call you weird, or do that judgy-eyebrow-wiggle-thing that he reserves only for special occasions (most recently used when Soonyoung was talking about a hookup gone wrong). You’ve always been the one he looks at when someone does something weird; what would he do if it was you being weird? Your stomach turns, the butterflies eating each other alive. You can’t do that to him, no matter how perfect his lips are.
You jump at the sound of someone clearing their throat. You turn back to the door to see the woman holding a cat carrier doing her best not to smile.
“Not trying to rush you two, but the sooner they settle into a nice loving home, the better,” she says, winking at ‘loving.’ You really should correct her. Actually, Vernon should correct her. He always does, the very few times that you have been mistaken as a couple. He never hesitates, so why isn’t he doing it now? Does he really not realize what she’s implying?
He stands up, turning to face you and extending his hands to pull you up. You roll your eyes but take them anyway, ignoring the way your heart sinks when he lets go this time. He takes the carrier and gently picks up the kittens, blankets and all, and tucks them inside. Pinky follows immediately after, as if she couldn’t bear to be away from her children for more than a second.
“I have a box ready by the door with their food, and toys, and other supplies, and I know you said you have a litter box and you’re ready, but I just wanted to make sure that they settle in nice, and I added a blanket in case they’re homesick, and–” She pauses, peering at the dark holes of the carrier as if she can see the little kittens inside. She takes a deep breath, picking up her child again, stepping to the side so that you and Vernon can leave the room. “I know you two will take good care of them, I do, I just– I’m going to miss them.”
“Me too,” her child says, clinging to her mother’s neck.
The woman smiles. “But we said our goodbyes already, and they’re going to be so happy with these two, right?”
“Of course,” you say when Vernon doesn’t answer. “He’s been obsessed with cats since he was smaller than you!” You wink at the child, who giggles.
You pick up the box at the door, grunting at the heaviness.
“We can switch,” Vernon says softly but you shake your head.
“It’s just to the car, it’s fine.” Vernon looks like he’s going to argue more, but finally he steps onto the front porch, moving as gently as possible, trying to disturb the precious cargo as little as possible.
“Thank you so much again,” the woman says, setting her child down. “We really do wish we could keep them, but it makes me happy knowing that someone capable will be taking care of them, especially an adorable couple like the two of you. Do keep me updated on their adoptions.”
You force a smile and choke out a “thank you,” following Vernon mindlessly down the driveway after she closes the door.
Adorable couple, were her exact words and Vernon said nothing. Why? The word hangs on your tongue, threatening to spill out if you so much as open your mouth. You watch as Vernon sets the carrier in the backseat, then takes the box out of your arms and places it on the floor. You force yourself to move to the passenger side when he raises his eyebrows at you, but once you’re sitting down and the seatbelt is across your chest, you’re frozen again.
Vernon takes your phone when you don’t move, putting in your passcode (the sum of his birthday and yours). He pulls up his own playlist, a collection of hyperpop and indie artists that you normally enjoy listening to. Today it takes all your concentration not to burst.
You almost make it the whole drive, all the way to his block, the apartment building he’s spent the last year and a half in that’s become far too familiar to you. How much time have you wasted away on the floor of his living room, drinking, doing classwork, listening to him talk about the future, rambling to him about the midnight thoughts that threaten your heart? He knows everything about you, except what you need him to know the most.
When the question begins to burn in your heart, you can’t hold it anymore. Vernon pulls into his parking spot and it falls from your lips before you realize it. “Why?”
He has the audacity to feign ignorance, blinking at you before finally asking, “Why what?”
“Why did you let her think we are a couple?”
One of the kittens mewls in the silence, a soft cry for help, sounding pitifully like your own heart.
Vernon stares ahead of him at the concrete wall, the fading red number 19 that designates this spot as his. Just say something, your heart begs him. Stop giving me hope where there is none. His shoulders rise in the tiniest shrug. “I guess I was just curious.”
“Of what?”
He swallows, Adam’s apple bobbing up and down. He glances at you, just once. “What it would be like.” He sighs. “This really isn’t the time for this conversation.”
Your grip on the door handle is so tight your knuckles are white. So desperately, you want to believe he’s trying to say what you think he’s saying but you refuse to give yourself hope unless it’s real. “What conversation?”
“Okay, for the record, I did think this through,” he says, “a lot. Like, for months. This isn’t coming out of nowhere, I really did try to figure out if it’s just a passing thing because the last thing I want is for things between us to be weird because you’re my best friend and I tried to imagine my life without you and that was worse than anything, so I decided I wouldn’t ruin anything except I can’t stop thinking about–”
“Vernon.”
He pauses, turning to face you again and this time he doesn’t look away. You’ve never felt self-conscious under his gaze, not when he’s seen every awkward stage of your life and stuck with you anyways. His eyes have always been familiar to you, an oasis of comfort that you always find yourself drifting toward. But the longer he stares at you, the more you want to run away, hide from the heartbreak you see in his eyes.
“I think I like you,” he says. “No. I do. Like, as in more than a friend. God, none of these words are working.”
You stare at him. He’s saying everything you want him to say. He’s saying he likes you. Why can’t you move?
Vernon runs a hand through his hair, and sighs. “Like I said, I don’t want to ruin things between us, you're still my best friend first. But I’m also sure about how I feel and I don’t want to keep it from you any longer. I can’t stay in this limbo of holding onto something that doesn’t exist, so, I’m really sorry.”
“Sorry?” You repeat, frowning. “Why are you sorry?”
“Because… I like you. And that ruins… this.” He gestures between you and him and that’s when you finally realize that he doesn’t know.
“You dumbass,” you say, “I like you, too.”
Vernon frowns, mouth hanging open a little, and you have to wonder if you looked this goofy when he was talking. Your heart swells when you realize you’re the reason for it. “You do?”
“Yes,” you say, grabbing his hand. Your cheeks ache a little, and you realize that you’re smiling wider than you ever have before. You’ve never been this happy, not when you graduated high school, not when you and Vernon found out you got into the same college, not when you got a perfect score on that notoriously impossible chemistry final. “Vernon, I am an idiot that always thought you didn’t feel the way I did so I did everything I could to hide it. But I like you, I really, really do, and I’m sorry I never let it show.” There’s another word for how you feel, but you aren’t quite brave enough to use it yet, even if it’s what you really mean to say.
Vernon leans closer, pressing his forehead against yours. “We really are dumb, huh?”
“I can already hear Jihoon’s gloating.”
“He’s been nagging you too?” Vernon groans softly but the smile never leaves his lips. “He’s going to be insufferable.”
You’ve grown used to silences with Vernon. Sometimes they are painful, like when he tells a joke and only you laugh. Usually they’re peaceful, comfortable silences that can only exist between two people that have nothing left to say but stay together anyways. But this silence is heavy, a weight on your shoulders pushing you to do something, move closer. You’ve known him your whole life but this is foreign territory.
His breath kisses your lips again and this time you have the bravery to lean forward, just a little. His lips are soft, bottom lip chapped a little more than the top but it is warm and it feels like a first and thousandth at the same time, like unlocking the door to a house you know you’ll spend the rest of your life in. Your mind floats farther and farther away, in some place of impossible happiness that can’t quite believe that this is real.
A soft cry from somewhere to your left brings you back to earth. You pull away at the same time he does, glancing at the backseat. Right. The kittens. You glance at Vernon, whose mouth is still a little open, eyes wide and flustered. It makes you want to kiss him all over again but you settle for laughing.
“I guess we should go inside,” he says, leaning away from you though he doesn’t turn his back yet.
“We should get them settled,” you say, glancing at the carrier again.
Vernon nods, opening his door and grabbing the heavy box, pausing by the entrance to the building to wait for you to grab the carrier. Silence falls again as you ride the elevator up but you’re more than familiar with it.
It doesn’t take long to settle Pinky and the kittens, not when Vernon already had a room set up for them. He figures there’s been enough stress for the day and they should get some peace and space to relax, so you stretch out on the couch, taking your usual corner. Vernon sits next to you, the inch of space separating you feeling like a mile.
Vernon glances at you, chewing on his lip before asking, “You’ll stay?”
“Always.”
The grin that splits his face has you swooning all over again, so when he throws an arm over your shoulder, leaning into your side, your brain fully stops functioning. You have to will thoughts into existence, which is silly because it’s Vernon and he’s done this a million times. But when you tuck your head onto his shoulder and he kisses the top of this head, you know everything is different. And exactly how you want it.
“You’re definitely going to adopt Fried,” you say.
His laughter bounces you. “No way.”
“It’s Fried or Muffin. You can’t handle their cuteness, I saw you baby talking at them.”
“I'll stay strong.”
“What if I want a kitten?”
Vernon doesn’t hesitate. “Egg is pretty cute.”
“Sucker.”
“Only for you.”

one. meet cute
well, if it wasn’t for the consequences of your actions smacking you right on the face. yes, you should’ve studied more for that physics test. and studied harder. but also yes, student council duties needed attention. that group project for math was very time-consuming as well in your defense!
all those excuses and yet you still broke down.
sitting and hiding under a table in your school’s music room was becoming familiar. sometimes you wish you weren’t so outspoken or eager because now you’ve bitten off more than you can chew and are suffering the exhaustion from it.
but anyways, thank god for sound-proof music rooms! (your sniffles were beginning to inch their way towards sobs…)
“you okay?”
you jump at the sudden voice, head bumping against the desk with a heavy thud.
you blink up at the voice’s owner, furrowing your brows in annoyance.
the pale boy stammers in shock, struggling to put together his words. he heard you crying while entering the room, but seeing your puffy and bloodshot eyes made him wonder if he should’ve just made a 360 and left the room the first time he heard sniffles.
“s-sorry! i didn’t mean to scare you!” he stutters, rushing to you as you make your way out from under the desk. he quickly puts a hand under the desk, making sure you don’t bonk your head a second time.
you get up, quickly wiping your tears away from your face with the sleeves of your school uniform, the boy could get a good look at your face.
l/n y/n. student council’s vice president and class representative. he knew you very well. everyone did really. you were always all over the place talking to people, socializing, getting things done, and leading the way. you definitely didn’t know him though (he was right).
“it’s fine. don’t worry about it,” you assured, smiling slightly in an attempt to ease his obvious nerves.
you sigh before adding, “just don’t… tell anyone, yeah?” you read his name tag pinned on the chest of his uniform. lee jihoon.
“of course, don’t worry about that.”
“okay well, i have to get going now! see you around!” you send a friendly wave, walking for the door as jihoon interrupts you.
“wait! here, ta-take this,” he hands you a wrinkled napkin he had just pulled from his pockets.
when you stare at his outstretched hand, jihoon explains, “for your tears… although you’re not crying anymore, huh.”
you hold in your smile seeing the napkin most definitely from lunch that was just placed in your hand. so cute.
jihoon watches as you make your way out of the music room, thanking him, making him promise one last time to not tell anyone about today, and saying a goodbye.
so when you close the door behind you, he sighs with a gentle smile on his face. so cute.
two. i hate everyone but you
“lee jihoon!”
before becoming friends with lee jihoon, people should know that jihoon hates five things: people who touch him, annoying people, talkative people, being told what to do, and opening up.
and you haven’t seemed to pick up on these things yet after being friends for about… two months? but for you, it was bearable.
so whenever you march up to his desk, he doesn't complain.
“your group mates just told me how you haven’t attended any of the work meets they planned!” you sighed, pressing your lips together. “and take those damn earbuds out!”
“okay, okay. sorry,” jihoon leans back in his chair with tired eyes before explaining, “i’ve been doing my share of the work anyway, so why does it matter? i can’t be needed that much.”
you pout before sitting at the empty desk in front of him. you also notice how his eyes seem so focused on his hands all of a sudden.
you poke his forehead with your forefinger, making him look up to look at you with wide eyes.
“it’s just me, be honest,” you say in the gentlest tone jihoon’s ever heard from you.
he takes a moment to think before nodding. you smile and lean in, ready to hear his side of the story.
“they’re not the greatest people. i overhear them sometimes and they’re always gossiping. i don’t think i’d be able to stand being in a room with all of them talking for like two hours,” jihoon finally explains, but he’s taken aback as he sees your attentive and genuine expression.
he clears his throat and adds, “in conclusion, they give me a headache, and being with them for hours would drain my social battery for the day, no, week.”
jihoon forgets to mention that being around his group would be unbearable also because you were a common topic amongst their gossip. he remembers the day when one of his partners said you were such a teacher’s pet only for the sake of impressing the student council’s president, choi seungcheol.
he quite literally had to take a step outside before he said something he would regret because l/n y/n doing something for male validation? he would laugh in their faces if he had the courage.
“i see… it’s alright, i’ll see what i can do. don’t worry, jihoon! just focus on your part of the work and let me do the talking!” you grin, standing up abruptly.
jihoon just smiles up at you and nods, not surprised at how you were going to speak in his defense once again (this was becoming the new norm as you two became friends).
before turning to leave, you reach a hand out to ruffle his dark black hair, messing it all up. you quickly dash off, not letting jihoon scold you.
he hides his smile and growing blush as he reaches up to fix his hair.
jihoon still hates five things: people who touch him, annoying people, talkative people, being told what to do, and opening up. but if they come in the form of you, he doesn't seem to mind so much. especially if every time he reluctantly opens up, you always seem to understand him.
three. what was this feeling?
“i swear to god if i don’t beat her, she’ll never let me hear the end of it!”
jihoon was about to lose it. you were pacing back in forth in front of him. every time you had finally stopped moving or talking, he would place the sunscreen in your hand so you could apply some on your face yourself before your race. but every single time he did, you just gave him a look and shoved it right back into his hands, continuing your rant.
“she keeps going on and on about how the class representative should be good at everything including athletics and so sports day should be a breeze for me! why do class representatives have to go last in the relay? it’s so weird! i could be helping student council pass out waters right now or something like…”
your words fade away as his attention diverted to the couple a few feet down the bench from you two. the girl squeezed some sunscreen onto the back of her hand before applying it to her boyfriend’s face.
and to be honest, he couldn’t even remember who you were talking about anymore! yuna was it? or maybe yuri? yura??
so fuck it.
“i think she’s just jealous she’s in a lower class than me! because what other reason could—"
jihoon grabs your hand, pulling you down next to him. as your mouth hangs open in surprise and confusion, he twists the cap off, throwing it to the side and squeezing some onto the back of his hand. he takes a deep intake of breath.
jihoon slaps (not that hard actually) his sunscreen-covered fingers on your forehead making you freeze. unable to form words, sounds even, you just stare at his focused eyes, the slight furrow of his brows as he spreads the sunscreen on your face.
you curse the heat, maybe also your flustered emotions, as your cheeks warm up when you take in the close proximity between you two and also because his cold, pretty hands were on your face!! he was so gentle and cautious with you that you had a feeling he was as panicked as you were right now.
as you were freaking out and praying he couldn't hear the pounding of your heart, jihoon was busy wondering if this was too much. was this weird? was he making you uncomfortable??
jihoon, now much more uncomfortable with the sudden silence, began to change the subject. “you know someone so thoughtful of their skincare shouldn’t forget to put on sunscreen.”
when you responded with a flustered silence, he snorts as you refused to maintain eye contact with him.
he takes your silence as pre-anxiousness for your event, instead of it being because of his bold actions. “you’ll be fine in your race. so beat yuri, get this day over with, and let’s do something after school together, yeah?”
so he did listen to your rants.
it made you think. when was the last time someone paid attention to your rambling? when was the last time someone cared enough to want you to put sunscreen on? when was the last time someone comforted you even when you didn’t show you were troubled?
"anyways!" jihoon yells as he jumps up from the bench, "you still have some sunscreen on your face, but I've done enough so..." (way to ruin the moment, jihoon...)
you felt your heartbeat quicken when jihoon pulled you up from the bench by hand and gave your head a couple pats to calm the anxiety.
“so remember why you wanna win and use that to motivate you. you got this, y/n!” he holds a fist up, truly wishing you the best even though you very well knew he had no care in the world for today’s sports day.
what was this feeling?
four. it's love
the moment you start running, jihoon felt his hands get clammy and heart start pumping though he wasn’t even running. okay, so maybe he was completely listening to your rants even if he didn’t want to. maybe he did want you to beat yuri because he loved seeing you so passionate about something and always rooted for your success.
so as you passed yuri in your relay right before the finish line, maybe he did jump from his seat and start cheering. for once, he ignored all the stares from people around him who were shocked to hear his voice louder than class-speaking volume. he was just so so excited to see you sprint past the finish line with the biggest smile on your face as your classmates rushed over to congratulate their class representative.
he watches as you scan the bleachers, eyes lighting up as you find his eyes and mouthed the words, ‘i won!’
jihoon nods with a smile, sending you two thumbs up as you laugh before turning away to talk to your friends.
despite you being surrounded by so many people and him on the bleachers by himself on sports day, he still can’t help but finally realizes he likes you. he always has despite all the differences. lee jihoon likes you. and his smile never fades away upon processing this fact.
five. the argument
it’s been 11 days, 10 hours, and 34 minutes since jihoon had spoken a word to you. at first, you decided to keep track of the days so you could use it as a point to argue with jihoon. but that was ultimately thrown out of the window when jihoon remained giving you the silent treatment and no argument, not a single word from him was in sight (you did not expect this). he probably just needs some time alone... right?
on the other hand, jihoon could always feel your burning, infuriated stares burning a hole in the back of his head. it came to the point where walking by you in the hallways felt like he was on fire.
lee jihoon was conflicted. he enjoyed being your friend (even if it felt like it should be more sometimes), but at what cost? his mind just kept going back to your friends' conversation that day.
just as jihoon was about to unlock the restroom stall, his hand freezes at the mention of your name from someone's mouth. his name as well.
"you think y/n is actually friends with that loser?"
"who?"
"the nerd who always listens to music in the back of the class!"
"ah, lee jihoon? i mean... i doubt it. they're probably hanging with him to make him feel like he belongs, you know? he has no friends so that's probably why."
"holy shit, that's so depressing."
"right?"
and when jihoon is conflicted, he did what he does best: stay silent. because yes, being your friend made his year. should he keep being your friend even if he knew you were doing it out of pity? would he go that far for his crush?
as jihoon makes his way to the music room after just finishing his lunch, he decides to just stay silent forever! confrontation is difficult... so none of that!!!
he reaches his hand out to turn the knob of the music room, but lets out a pained groan as the door flies into his face unbeknownst to you who just got too excited at his presence because now you could finally talk to him alone!
"jihoon! i knew you'd come here! let's talk," and suddenly all your angry, violent thoughts that said to be angry at lee jihoon for ignoring you for so long flew out of your head. all rational thoughts: gone. you grabbed his hand that wasn't rubbing his now red forehead and pulled him into the room.
jihoon sighs. so much for no confrontation.
when jihoon closes the door behind you both, you take a deep inhale of breath and exhale to calm your nerves. you've been thinking about this moment for ages, don't mess it up now!
you turn swiftly to face jihoon with a bitter expression on his face, making you gulp as the nerves begin crawling back.
"li-listen, whatever i did i'm sorry. i truly didn't mean to hurt you, so please, tell me what i did wrong so we can talk it out and i can apologize properly!"
for the first time since being pulled into that room by you, he looks at you to meet your eyes. how could they be so... genuine?
he looked at you in a way that made you want to sink to the floor. "well? are you gonna say anything?" you frown as he stares at you wordlessly.
"why are you friends with me?"
you blink at him in shock. "w-what?"
jihoon sighs and repeats, "why are you friends with me?"
you struggle to form the right words to say. "well... we kept running into each other and i liked talking to you so i just stuck around.” that could be worded much better, you think.
he didn’t believe you.
“you’re only friends with me because you’re vice president and it’s your job to help your peers, right?”
your jaw went slack.
“where did you get that from??”
this look was different. not mad, but hopeless. “not important. just answer me, is it true?”
“of course not! who told you that? why would you even believe that?” okay, now you were starting to get worked up because that’s such a horrid thing to assume of you! did he have that little faith in you?
his fists tighten because suddenly pin-pointing all the flaws in his friendship with you became easy.
“hey, but to add on to that, why do you baby me?”
your eyebrows knit together because you just got even more lost if possible. “baby you? since when? how? where did any of this come from, jihoon?”
“can you quit being so focused on where this is coming from? it’s coming from me, okay? it makes sense anyways, i am nothing like any of your friends. why me? why be friends with me—“
“why can’t i just be friends with you because i want to?? do all my friends need to be the same?”
he lets out a menacing scoff. “okay, so am i some charity case then? a friendship made out of pity because i can’t seem to ever speak up for myself and you always have to swoop in to save me? i can defend myself, y/n. why do you act like i’m a defenseless loser that needs to be protected and babied?”
“i have never thought about you that way! first of all, whoever told you i was friends with you because it was my job has no idea what you and i are. you’ve never given other people the time of day to listen to their stupid opinions, so why now, huh?”
because it was about you.
“second of all, you always complain about people not understanding you or mistreating you! you always let people walk all over you! i am sick of having to watch you pretend like you’re cool and unbothered at what people say about you, so forgive me if i’m standing up for you because i care. it’s not my job, i’m doing it because i’m your friend. and if you were uncomfortable about it, just tell me! set boundaries! not give me the silent treatment.”
“well i don’t want to be your friend anymore.” his words were eerily cold. he gave up. he clearly didn’t want to try for this or you anymore.
your gentle pants from your yelling fill the silent and tense atmosphere of the music room where you two first met. silent because his words were still processing in both of your heads and tense because this was probably the end of your friendship. you both couldn't meet each other's eyes.
as jihoon was gauging your troubled expression, a pool of heavy guilt filled his stomach. that sentence was not how he imagined it would go. he always thought it would be said bravely. lovingly. like in a confession. not like friends breaking up!
so you decide to give up too because what’s the point in trying when he doesn’t trust you.
“okay then. i respect that. i have nothing else to say. do you?”
he grimaces at the way your voice shakes. the way your nose scrunches unpleasantly. and his heart regrets the way your eyes shine over with tears. jihoon would never believe that he would one day be the cause of your pain and tears.
“no.” goddammit, that’s not what he wanted to say. why was he such a coward?
“okay.” your voice was just a whisper as you breeze past him, not wanting him to see you cry a second time.
when the door of the room shuts behind him, he cries. for the first time in a long time.
he can’t even remember what he was mad about. he could only remember your broken expression and your broken tone. he messed up something beautiful all because it was hard believing that someone as amazing as you would want to be his friend. and possibly like him.
six. right person, right time
22 days, 12 hours, and 16 minutes. why are you even keeping track anymore at this point? you two are not friends. period.
you weren’t even friends with him for that long! you had your other friends too anyways so why did cutting things off with him hurt so much? (i wonder why).
after not talking to jihoon, you start to realize how being his friend was such a breath of fresh air. a break from life. a good and genuine change. it was great. this was probably because how jihoon had no care for social cliques or no expectations or just no interest in things outside of grades and music!
and so for the first time in a long time, someone wanted to talk to you about something that had nothing to do with student council, clubs, school, volunteering, or community service. meeting jihoon was a quick and sharp realization that all your friends, all the people you surround yourself with, are people from the student council or simply smart-popular people! over-achievers! nerds!
maybe jihoon was right when he said you were the definition of a nerd who also happened to be popular… (which you refused to believe because how could a nerd be popular, jihoon?)
nevertheless! jihoon’s interest in music, critiquing animes, playing instruments for fun (not just in school like what), and best of all his carefree attitude, truly make all these nerds around you so bland and basic.
like finally, someone who busies themself with something, not about school or accomplishing something worthy enough to put on a college application.
and about his carefree attitude, it’s crazy how you never noticed until jihoon mentioned how uptight some of your friends were after hearing a close friend of yours, who was also secretary of the council, talk to you about something school related. all you and your friends talked about was school.
so yes, being friends with lee jihoon was beyond eye-opening and more life-changing, but it also made you view your friends differently. were they even your friends? if you weren't a part of all your extracurriculars, no, if you just weren't smart or outgoing, would they care about you at all?
this epiphany has let you see your friends for the people they are. you indeed saw this for yourself when some dumb boys began picking on him.
"seriously, i get if you don't like us. i respect that even. but failing us just because you think we're inferior to you makes you look like a fucking loser," park junghyung laughed cynically as he pulled a chair next to jihoon's desk, getting all up in his face.
if you don't see it, it doesn’t exist. jihoon has been repeating this sentence for the past five minutes because junghyung and his friends couldn't stand not being carried through group assignments for the first time in their lives.
"i didn't fail you, that's up to ms. lee."
with that, junghyung's tight-lipped smile dropped and his "patience" ran dry. he shot up from his seat and kicked it to the floor, the loud clanging sound making people gasp and begin to watch the situation unfold.
yeah, maybe removing his entire group's names from the presentation before submitting was too bold of a move. well, they should’ve done shit to help if they didn’t want a failing grade, right? after all, you always told him 'be bold and be strong! don't let stupid idiots walk over you! run over them instead!' wait, why as he even thinking about you in this situation?? damn it!
so, cue you walking toward jihoon's classroom, ready to confront some bullies and you’re only doing this because it’s the right thing to do, not that you still like him or anything (lie)! you don’t dare to hope you two might reconcile and maybe even become friends again after this because that’s so dumb (lie). and hopefully, jihoon won’t think you're babying him, you just want to clear his name! (truth).
however, seeing your crush (100% truth) lee jihoon being cornered by park junghyung who was grabbing his collar while everyone was staring and recording was not what you expected! are you seriously about to walk into a fight for your crush… (yes).
"you must think you're all that to pull such a move, huh. in reality, you're just a pathetic shit who can’t even pull bitches because they all pity you.” was he talking about you?
now that he thinks about it, the voice in the restroom that day was him. it was park junghyung.
honest to god, jihoon 100% firmly believes the best choice in this situation would be to run because he cannot fight. he guesses he can try, but unfortunately, junghyung is a fit dude. a big dude. if only he didn’t talk about you and insinuate you were a bitch.
jihoon grabs junghyung’s collar and throws him off. he’s at his limit right now.
“if you didn’t want to fail, maybe stop partying and getting drunk of your ass to get away from your fucked up home life? maybe actually use that empty shit brain of yours and do something with it? maybe then you wouldn’t have to ask your rich dad or student council friends to pull favors so you don’t get pushed down a class or kicked out of school even.” jihoon is suddenly very memorable of all the school gossip you’ve told him before.
junghyung laughs in disbelief. “you’re asking for it, you little fucker.”
well. this was it. this is when jihoon gets sucker punched.
“y-you dickhead!”
woah, was that… you??
everyone, including jihoon and an impatient junghyung turns to see you pushing through crowds, and marching your way in between junghyung and jihoon.
junghyung rolls his eyes when you grab jihoon’s hand reassuringly and glare up at him.
“come on, y/n. quit the charity act. it’s getting annoying now. move aside, yeah?”
a slap resonates through the filled classroom. gasps fill the room as even more phones go up to record the student council vice president slapping it boy park junghyung across the face.
jihoon’s eyes go wide. wide! he instinctively pulls you behind him, shielding you from a fuming, red junghyung.
he side-eyes you who was also very shell-shocked at your own actions.
“y/n, what the hell are you doing?” he whispers as junghyung’s group goes up to him to ask if he was okay.
“to be honest, i don’t know. just know i am not babying you. i’m doing this and have always been doing this because i care about you, now move. i’m not done.”
jihoon’s eyes soften as he caresses his thumb over the back of your hand. he doesn’t deserve you.
junghyung lets out a laugh of disbelief. “you know what, you two deserve each other. you’re both fucking insane.”
“well, you and your friends are all fucking stupid.”
yes, you knew his friends (also your friends) were in the room watching. yes, you knew you would be losing a lot of friends today if you continued talking. yes, it’s worth it if it’s for lee jihoon especially if they all think of him the same way junghyung does.
junghyung clenches his jaw before taunting, “oh really! i wonder what our friends will think about that,” he turns around to the crowd of people with arms wide, “what do you guys think about the genius and model student y/n swearing and assaulting other students? their own friend at that too!”
you scoff and roll your eyes at this boy’s sheer audacity. he was never your friend.
junghyung gets more pissed off at your reaction and says, “since when were you such an annoying bitch?”
you cross your arms across your chest impatiently. did he think he was that intimidating? “i’ll start being a bitch because it’s sickening watching you push everyone around. what? do you think i’m like everyone else?”
jihoon panics when he feels you try to push past his arm as junghyung does the same also while his friends attempt to hold him back.
jihoon laughs awkwardly, trying to calm the situation. still making sure to keep an arm between you an junghyung, he apologizes, “they’re just a bit mad at the unnecessary crowding and recording haha, please understand.”
you whip your head to glare at jihoon, “quit apologizing when you’re not in the wrong. now move.”
you move closer to junghyung staring at you with cursing eyes.
“woah junghyung, you gonna slap me back? punch me? like you do with your classmates and call it messing around?”
“man, this bitch is fucking insane!”
“i’ll show you how insane i can be if you keep taking advantage of jihoon or anyone else just because they’re nice people.” you feel jihoon turn around to face you completely, but refuse to look at him because you knew you would melt instantly. you missed him.
you hold his hand tighter before concluding, “now you’re always gonna be known as an idiot who bullies smart kids because he can’t do shit in school. i really won’t let it slide if you mess with jihoon again,” you turn to scan everyone who was in the room recording, “send that video to the principal if you want i don’t care!“
you pull jihoon away from junghyung who punches the nearest desk before letting out a frustrated yell.
“move. move!” you shove your way through the crowd as your friends, well, maybe not friends anymore after they had just seen you slap and swear at someone… but it didn’t matter you’d see them tomorrow for student council stuff anyways if you still had your position after this.
you and jihoon walk away from everyone who began to disperse, gossiping because how could model student y/n act so aggressively?
but that was the last thing on your mind because you felt like there was a lot to discuss with jihoon.
jihoon who just trails behind you, hands still entwined with yours, was zoning out thinking about what just occurred. you stop abruptly, making him walk into your back.
“s-sorry-“
you pull him into an empty classroom and shut the door behind you, letting go of his hand.
you sigh and put your hands on your knees, trying to catch your breath for a moment. you had so much adrenaline running and you could even hear your heartbeat in your ears.
you still manage to slap jihoon’s hand away when he attempts to turn on the lights, “no lights right now.”
he nods, staring at your tired figure awkwardly.
jihoon scratches the back of his head, not knowing what to say. does he thank you? scold you for nearly getting beat up for him? risking your spot and position in the student council?
his thoughts clear as you begin rambling. he sighs internally hearing your panicked tone. “i know, i know! we’re not friends anymore and you didn’t want me to speak for you or to you anymore, i know. i’m sorry. i just… i care about you so so much, even if we're not friends. i never approached you after you caught me crying because i pitied you and felt it was my duty to be there for you. th-that was never the case. so please don’t be mad at me, we can go our separate ways after today. just know—“
jihoon grabs your arm, pulling you towards him so he could wrap his arms around you. he cups the back of your head and in a hushed tone says, “it’s okay. i’m sorry. i was wrong. it was my fault. i still wanna be with you. i was just lost for a moment, i’m sorry i hurt you. you didn't deserve to be treated like that by me. i hope you can forgive me even if i don’t deserve it.”
tears brim your eyes as you nod, sniffling. you hope he understands what you were trying to say wordlessly when you wrap your arms around his waist tightly, not wanting to be apart from him again.
jihoon never knew what to say to people, especially when it came to comforting someone. but then came you. and the words flowed so easily.
seven. because i like you
your phone buzzes in your pocket, you glance down cautiously, avoiding getting caught by your teacher. back then you would have never check your phone for anyone else, but you had started to for jihoon. you blame him for being a bad influence on you, but he said you were being a bad influence on yourself.
hoon: i’m in the music room rn. can we talk?
you: yes, please. i’ll be there in ten after my council meeting
you sigh. this felt like deja vu. hopefully, it wouldn’t end up too much like last time you both were in here though.
you turn the knob and pull the door open, making eye contact with a lee jihoon who was sitting on the ground, leaning against the wall.
he couldn’t even say a word as you let go of the door, closing it in your face. you were not as mentally prepared as you thought you were.
moments later, the door swings back open and you speed walk over to him, plopping down on the floor in front of him.
“sorry. i just needed a moment,” you mutter, looking down at your shoes.
he chuckles at your cute antics, “that’s okay.”
jihoon then pulls out a wrapped triangle gimbap in one hand and a yakult in the other, hands both outstretched to you.
you blink owlishly at the two snacks in his pretty hands as he sighs with a slight smile, “it’s for you. i know you didn’t get to buy lunch because your student council meeting just ended.”
when you still didn’t move after his explanation, jihoon just places it down in front of your legs.
“a-ah! thank you, jihoon! you didn’t have to…” you clear your throat, realizing how affected you sounded by his actions.
“i wanted to,” jihoon replies nonchalantly, taking off his jacket at the same time.
you peel back the wrapper of the gimbap with a throbbing heart and smile, also trying to change the subject before you combust, “is it hot in here?”
without a response, jihoon drapes his jacket over your legs, which were also sitting uncomfortably because of your skirt.
you look up at jihoon looking off to the side with timid eyes, “sorry, i shouldn’t have sat on the ground. you can use my jacket for now.”
you punch his shoulder with a giggle, thanking him as he groans.
“since when were you such a gentleman, gosh jihoon.”
he rolls his eyes in a joking manner, “since always, you just never notice.”
“sure sure. anyways, what…. did you want to talk about?”
the light and comfortable atmosphere and banter between the two of you just now had made you completely forget this was the first time you talked to jihoon after the junghyung incident. though it was only two days ago, you were busy talking to the principal and dealing with the whole situation, which left you no time until now to talk to him. which still wasn’t even enough time!
“oh yeah,” jihoon looks up from his lap to make eye contact with you, suddenly in a serious mood, “i just wanted to see how you were. did you get in trouble?”
“mm, yes and no? like principal han was pretty mad, but all those years of sucking up to her did me good because she said she still thinks i’m a good student, i just handled the situation wrong,” you say while trying to peel off the lid of the yakult.
jihoon notices, taking the drink from your hands and poking a straw through it for you…….
was he hiding the straw from you just so he could do that….cheeky idiot. anyways!
“continue?” jihoon inquires softly, handing the drink back to you.
“t-thanks. uhh, i have to make a formal apology to several classes tomorrow morning! i think just the classes in our hallway because those were the ones that gathered to watch us the most, which was so rude by the way?? why would they just stare and record? couldn’t someone get a teacher? ugh, but i also have to do a buuunch of community service this weekend with everyone who hates me now after the whole thing.”
jihoon frowns. he forgot that you defending him that day ended up making your friends distance themselves from you. he can’t help but feel at blame. at fault. did you even have friends anymore?
your eyebrows furrow when jihoon’s expression began to get cloudy and disturbed all of a sudden.
“jihoon? what’s up?”
“i’m sorry,” he replies almost instantly, making you blink in shock.
“i’m sorry that helping me that day made you get on bad terms with everyone. god, they’re your friends and fellow members… you’ll have to see them everyday a-and i made them all turn on you. i’m sorry, i shouldn’t have said anything to junghyung that day. i shouldn’t have let you talk to him. i shouldn’t have—“
you lean forward on your hands, landing a peck on jihoon’s cheek, successfully shutting him up from his intrusive thoughts.
“geez, jihoon… i thought you said you have trouble expressing your feelings! why are you only expressing the negative ones to me??”
jihoon’s cheeks grow and feel fiery as his hand goes up to his cheek, fingers ghosting over where your lips were just a moment ago. the feeling was still there.
not noticing his blushing state, you continue ranting, “even if i knew the outcome of that fight, i still would do it all again in a heartbeat. a heartbeat! i did it because i like you, okay? i wanted to. it’s not your fault, so why would you apologize?”
jihoon’s eyes shoot up to meet yours. “you like me?”
now it was your turn to become shy. did you really say that…?
your heartbeat pounds against your rib age, not knowing what to say. “do you?”
“yes. and i have for a while.”
you nod, managing to calm your heart. you suddenly find your gimbap very interesting now. “good. we’re on the same terms then.” but then you thought about how jihoon remembered you had meetings on wednesdays and never got the chance to eat lunch.
your heartbeat goes wild again. (gosh, him and his acts of service!!!)
jihoon shakes his head with a quiet laugh at your response, “i guess we are.”
sensing how you seemed very overwhelmed with the unexpected confession, which was not how he imagined you would react if he ever confessed (not that he imagined it or anything…..), he decided maybe making another move or establishing anymore between you two would be for another day. for now, he likes you and you like him. that’s enough for the both of you to be on cloud nine.
eight. closest to the heart
today was the day. lee jihoon will be giving you his nametag today because even though you kissed him that day, nothing has been established since you two refuse to talk about it! although you both can tell the other has some sort of interest or feelings for the other, that was all. nothing more, which was enough for a few days. then jihoon got sick of it and wanted to officially be yours.
hoon: music room after school?
you: yes but buy a cola for me this time too please
hoon: of course :)
you: last time you forgot
hoon: no i ran out of money and offered you mine anyways
you: you’re a bad liar
hoon: i’m sorry
you walk into the music room with a bright smile. any bad memories of this room were quickly replaced with fun, heart-aching memories of him. memories of spending all of lunch eating in here, gossiping away at your now ex-friends. memories of watching him in amazement as he composes a beautiful melody with the several instruments in this room just with the talent of his mind. memories of your feelings only growing more and stronger for him.
waiting for jihoon to arrive, you walk around the room, smiling at all the instruments jihoon has played for you. he was so different from you in such a good way. you who only took up extracurriculars for the sake of having something to put on a college application versus jihoon who did non-academic activities just because he genuinely found peace and joy in them. he was so amazing in your eyes. you wish he could see himself the way you saw him.
while scanning around the room, your eyes land on a piece of paper with writing on a table. you raise an eyebrow. barely anyone else comes here and jihoon always comes here with you? or so you thought?
you walk towards the paper, picking it up to read it. instantly, you recognized it to be jihoon’s writing. you have never met a boy with such nice handwriting before until him.
he had made a short bullet point list.
don’t stutter. look them in the eyes. don’t ramble and be straight to the point. be honest. finally, give them the—
a high-pitched yell interrupts your reading. “Y/N!!”
you yelp as jihoon comes speeding at you, swiping the paper off your hands and into his pocket.
he pants, a hand gripping the table as you look at him bewildered.
“jihoon, what the heck?”
“s-sorry, just boy stuff, you know?”
you stare at him with a blank expression, not believing his lie for a moment. “no, i don’t know.”
jihoon laughs awkwardly with gritted teeth, desperate to move on to another topic.
“oh! i have something to tell you! that’s why i asked you to come here today.”
you nod, gesturing for him to continue.
he clears his throat, fixes his posture, and takes a breath.
“y/n. i already told you this, but i want to tell you again. i like you. i’ve liked you since the early days of our friendship when you kept following me around and i tried to make you leave me alone by constantly saying that you talk too much. that was a lie. well, you do ramble, but i didn’t mind because i do too. i just didn’t know how to deal with such a pretty person wanting to talk to me every day.”
he smiles unconsciously because even the thought of you made him smile. just the thought of you alone.
“i began to like you more when you would come to the music room with me during lunch even when you said your friends wouldn’t stop complaining about it. i liked you more when you texted me good morning and goodnight, when you asked me if i ate, when you wanted to listen to my music, and when you were just you. i don’t think i’ve ever shown my music to someone before, but you’re a special person to me. you will always be a special person to me. and… i hope to be a special person to you as well…”
with a shaky hand, he reaches into his pocket and pulls out his nametag. jihoon grabs your hand and places it in your palm, closing your hand around it.
your confused expression sends jihoon into a whirlwind of panic.
“i like you too, jihoon. you’ve always been a special person to me, though.” jihoon falters when you undo the pin of his name tag and attempt to pin it back on his uniform.
“are you rejecting me?”
the absolute seriousness but also slight wavering of his voice makes you nearly drop the name tag.
“what?” you shriek, “of course not! i thought we were making this official!”
jihoon thinks, trying to connect the dots together... nothing’s connecting.
“we are. and i wanna be your boyfriend…but why are you giving me back my name tag?”
you glance down at the his name tag in your hands puzzled.
“i thought you wanted me to pin it back for you. as in like ‘i like you so much here’s the honor of letting you pin my name tag on me,’” when you take in the horrified look on your now boyfriend’s face, you laugh awkwardly, “isn’t that what you wanted me to do?”
“no! oh my gosh, i would never confess to you in such a douchey way. ever. i just…” his words trail off when he realizes maybe you didn’t know what giving a name tag to someone meant. that never occurred as a possible situation in his head. and trust when i say he thought he mapped all the possible situations that would result from him confessing.
“wait, don’t you know what giving you my name tag means?”
you blink twice.
jihoon lets out a sigh of relief and then laughs at your adorable, lost state.
he collects himself, but one look at you makes him melt and throw his arms around you in a hug.
your breath halts when jihoon practically puts all his weight on you, snuggling his head into your neck.
his soft voice makes your body shiver.
“there’s basically this … tradition where a boy gives his name tag to his crush as a way to confess his love because name tags sit close to the heart.”
the wheels in your head begin turning again.
“so … in way, i’m giving you my heart.”
when you response with a sniffle, jihoon pulls back from the hug immediately.
“are you crying??” he looks at you with wide eyes, cradling your head.
you pout, “no, but i might. that’s so cute, jihoon. i love it so much.”
your hand grasps his name tag tighter. he just gave you his heart.
you pull his hand, closing the distance between you two once again.
you lean your head on his shoulder, whispering out five words so quiet so only he could hear, “i love you so much.”
“i love you too,” he responds almost immediately.
you hold in a giggle when you feel his pounding heart as he holds back a quip when he also hears your heart beating erratically in the silence and comfort of the music room.
nine. a love that lasts
“highschool love never lasts.” okay tell that to you and jihoon then.
“are you… crying??”
when those words slip from jihoon’s mouth, a sob escapes your throat.
you hid your face with your sleeve, tears falling nonstop and crying, “you wrote a song for me!”
jihoon gawks at you because he was baffled. were these good tears? bad tears? shocked tears? angry tears??? he should be good at reading your emotions by now! he’s been dating you for seven years now. eight years as of today because it was your relationship’s anniversary! and he's written you several songs before??
he stumbles out of his chair to you as you continue to cry (sob).
“y/n, what-what’s wrong? whatever i did, i’m sorry. it's my fault,” he sits beside you on the couch of this recording studio, rubbing your back comfortingly.
“no, you did nothing wrong at all,” you sniffle, “i just love the song so much. i love you so much.”
jihoon bites his lip, holding back a chuckle. he turns your face toward him with both of his hands, cupping your face so he could wipe your falling tears away with his thumbs.
his hands pause as he squeezes your cheeks. “i love you too. i’m glad you like the song so much. happy 8th anniversary, y/n. thank you for loving me all these years even though i was so difficult and still am.”
you close your eyes, more cries erupting as jihoon dares to laugh at you and pulls you in for a warm, but a crushing hug.
you sometimes wonder how you would’ve survived high school without jihoon. then and now, he has been someone who helped you breathe when things began to get overwhelming. he was your anchor. for jihoon, he was speeding through life, wanting to grow up as soon as possible. that was until he fell in love with you. you made him feel want to cherish his days and live happily. his life had meaning again. his days had the motivation to do more. you brought out the best in him.
he now begins to wonder how you’ll react when he pulls out the rings and asks the biggest question of his and your lives. however, he has a feeling it’ll be a good cry as well.

GOLDEN RETRIEVER
genre. fluff. warnings. none. pairing. mingyu x fem!reader. wc. 439. request. requested by @mangocustard16 for the 1500 follower event here!! a/n. i love sleepy mingyu fluff always its like an obsession
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mingyu, despite how serious and hot he could look on-stage, was a completely different person with you. If a golden retriever could have ever turned into a human, Kim Mingyu was certainly the perfect representation of one. He was always smiling and giggling, and he never seemed to be truly aware of how big and strong he was— surprising not just you, but him as well.
But even though the size difference between you two was blaringly evident; your boyfriend still loved lying on top of you. Lying with his head on your chest so he could hear your heart beating steadily was his favourite. It was soothing to him. He was a positive person overall, but he had his own struggles and hardships, as everyone did. Listening to your heartbeat and feeling your soft breath as he fell asleep was one of the best ways he could reset.
But tonight, it seemed as if it wasn’t enough.
“Something bothering you? You keep shifting.” You asked in a mumble, glancing down at the man who kept twisting and turning, sometimes lying with his head on you, sometimes opting for a pillow instead. It was rather unlike him— usually he was able to fall asleep almost immediately.
“It’s just not comfortable.” He pouted in response and rolled over to face you again.
“Come here. I have an idea.” You whispered, opening your arms for your boyfriend to come cuddle closer. He settled his head back on your chest, right over your heart, and stared up at you.
“Close your eyes, Gyu. You won’t be able to fall asleep while staring at me.” You smiled, endeared at the fact that he seemed to always want to admire you; but also ever aware of the early shooting schedule for the next morning. He should have been asleep an hour ago if he was aiming for 6 full hours. He followed your instructions, letting out a huff and wrapping his left arm around your waist. You lifted your left hand so it rested gently on top of his head and slowly started to play with his dark locks.
“What are you- oh. It feels nice.” His voice softened, and you could feel him relax a bit more in your arms.
You should’ve realized sooner that your boyfriend would like pets, just like dogs do. You continued raking your fingers through his hair, making sure to be as gentle as possible and not pull on any tangled strands. You were about to ask if he was feeling sleepier when you heard his soft snores and had to hold back a laugh.
Your boyfriend was definitely a golden retriever.

[04:15 AM] — seungcheol .
req by @cinnamoroxie, 332 words, idolverse, fluff, est. rs
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
"Y/N. Y/N."
"Mmph. Shh, I'm sleeping."
"Love, I need to go now," Seungcheol says with a chuckle, and you mutter drowsily, still half asleep. "You need to let go of me."
You grumble again, before eventually releasing him from your arms, letting him untangle himself from you, whining in protest at the cold when he lifts the covers. “Bye. Have fun.”
“What, no good morning kiss?” Seungcheol says teasingly, still in a quiet voice, because it’s four in the morning and normal people aren’t awake yet. “We have a really long schedule today, love. You probably won’t see me until night.”
You just hum in reply, not even opening your eyes. “Mm. Go.”
“Y/N, love... please?” he says, and there’s a beat where you don’t move, before you eventually unbury your head from the covers so that he has access to your cheeks.
It may be four in the morning, but he’ll be damned if he doesn’t get his morning kisses from you.
He presses his lips to your cheek, soft and loving, and you hum contentedly before burrowing into the sheets again. It’s dark, and he can barely see you, but he ruffles your hair and gives you another kiss on the top of your head for good measure.
“You’re going to be late,” you mutter in a blurred voice, and he just laughs.
“You’re probably right. Thank you for taking care of me.”
“Anytime.”
The blunt response makes him chuckle again, and he bends down to tuck you in properly, pulling the covers firmly down around you.“Sleep well,” he says, gathering his clothes and backing out of the room to let you sleep for the rest of the morning. “I’ll see you tonight.”
“Bye bye,” you murmur as he closes the door, and it’s four in the morning, but Seungcheol can’t help the warm smile that spreads across his face.
He’s not even left the house yet, but he can’t wait to come home to you.

SLEEP IS THE BEST MEDICINE
genre. fluff. sickfic. warnings. reader is sick (sore throat/coughing). mention of food. pairing. seungkwan x fem!reader. wc. 1.4k. request. no. a/n. for @wheeboo who is sick and so i had to write her a sickfic smh (i love her sm pls feel better soon lovely)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
As soon as you heard the buzzing of your phone breaking through your attempt at sleep, panic filled your body. One glance at the caller ID confirmed everything, and you shut your eyes tightly, trying to muster up all your energy and a half-decent attempt to get your normal voice back before you answered.
Of course your boyfriend would be calling to check where you were. You were supposed to meet him 30 minutes ago. Not only had you forgotten all about the date you had planned days in advance, but you had also managed to get sick since the last time you had seen him (and forgot to tell him about it).
Seungkwan’s voice sounded cheery as soon as you picked up the call, “Hey, love! Is the traffic bad or something? I’m at the restaurant— people keep giving me looks cause they think I’m dining alone.”
A small smile crept onto your face as you imagined the scene, guessing that your boyfriend probably wore a pout on his face just by the tone of his voice.
“About that… I kind of forgot?” You started to explain, your voice coming out in a painful rasp even as you tried your best to clear your throat.
“Are you sick? You sound awful.” Seungkwan asked hurriedly, completely ignoring what you were trying to tell him. You tried to think of a good excuse to give him, but the silence in response to his question already gave Seungkwan his answer.
“You are sick, aren’t you! Why didn’t you tell me?” He scolded lightly. You could imagine vividly the way he usually pursed his lips in disapproval, and a sigh left your lips. You had really been looking forward to the date, now that you remembered that it had been scheduled. It had been weeks since you spent more than an hour or so with Seungkwan, and you missed him so badly.
“I’m sorry, Kwannie. Can we reschedule it? I still want to go with you.” You said softly, clearing your throat between sentences in failed attempts to stop the uncomfortable scratching every time you talked.
A dinner date with your boyfriend at a seaside restaurant was exactly what you wished you could be doing right now. If only you hadn’t gotten sick at exactly the wrong time, you would be enjoying a fancy meal across from him right about now. You knew the night would have led to a walk along the shoreline under the moonlight— something that you never got tired of. And it would have been chilly enough for you to justify stealing Seungkwan’s jacket (you really just loved it because it smelled like him, and was so perfectly oversized on you).
“Of course. That’s not even a question.” He replied with a tsk, wondering why you would even have to ask that with such a regretful tone. The night certainly wasn’t ruined for him, even though he had been looking forward to the date as much as you had. “I’ll come over. We can still eat dinner together, okay?”
Your heart melted at his suggestion, though you were tentative to accept immediately. Logically, you should probably stay away from him just in case he got sick too; but you wanted nothing more than to curl up in his arms and sleep. You opened your mouth to start protesting, your mind finally winning over your heart, but then you remembered how stubborn your boyfriend was. Even if you forbid him from coming in your front door, he would probably scale the side of the house and sneak in through one of the windows just to get to you.
With a cough, and a small ‘okay’, you hung up the call and let your head hit the pillow again. You swiped over to your phone camera, frowning when you saw how you looked. Seungkwan would probably arrive still in his date outfit, looking as charming and handsome as he always did— and here you were looking like a complete mess under your blankets. From your tired eyes to your tangled hair to the patches of skin that were breaking out on your face due to the cold weather, you would look almost disgraceful next to your boyfriend.
You itched to get up and put on makeup before he arrived, but you knew he would notice right away and be absolutely appalled. You were too tired to put in the effort either way. It was silly for you to still care so much about how you looked even after dating Seungkwan for years, but you still wanted to look pretty for him. You forced your mind to give yourself a little grace about your appearance. It was absurd to expect to look your best while sick.
Seungkwan arrived sooner than you expected, announcing his presence at the door in a sing-song voice. You croaked out that you were in your bedroom as loudly as you could with how painful it was to talk and hoped that he was able to hear you. He knocked on your door a mere second later, opening it slowly. He had a goofy loving smile on his face and a plastic bag in one hand. You couldn’t help but mirror his smile as soon as you saw him.
“I got some soup on the way. It’s supposed to help with colds.” He explained eagerly, setting down the bag on your bedside table and taking out a large container of soup. He opened up the lid to let it start cooling before turning his attention back to you.
“My sweet girl. I only left you for 1 week and you still managed to get sick in that time.” He teased fondly, sitting on the edge of your bed where he could easily reach to tuck away the hair that fell over your forehead. You only frowned in response, trying to rest your voice as much as possible. It was easier to communicate non-verbally when your boyfriend could see all your facial expressions.
“Sit up a bit so I can feed you.” Seungkwan instructed with a smile, grabbing the container of soup and spooning out some to blow on.
“I can feed myself.” You whispered.
Seungkwan locked eyes with you, “I know, but let me feed you anyway. You never let me do anything for you.” You scoffed lightly at his response, although it made your chest buzz with warmth. It was clear that the opportunity to pamper and take care of you excited Seungkwan. Knowing your boyfriend, it didn’t surprise you.
The soup was soothing on your sore throat, and just the fact that Seungkwan was right there feeding you each spoonful gave you the energy to actually finish the bowl. He told you about his past week as he fed you, making sure that each bit of soup was sufficiently cooled before it reached your mouth. He gave you a proud smile once you had eaten the last bit of soup, despite how unimpressive the feat had been— certainly not one deserving of such praise.
“You look tired.” Seungkwan commented softly, setting aside the empty container of soup back on the table and adjusting your blanket to cover your entire body again. You hummed a little in response, already letting your eyes flutter closed. As soon as you felt the tiniest bit of motion, though, your hand flew out to clutch your boyfriend’s shirt tightly.
“Don’t leave.” You pleaded, earning light laughter from your boyfriend.
“I was only going to go wash out the container, but I guess that’ll have to wait.” He already knew exactly what you wanted just by your eyes. He wasn’t one to deny you anything when you were already feeling under the weather, so he shifted over to the other side of the bed where there was space for him to lie down and draped an arm around your body.
“If I get sick from this, you have to take care of me, too, okay?”
“Okay.” You closed your eyes again, shifting closer to him half a centimetre at a time in an attempt to be discreet. Of course, he noticed right away and pulled you closer before you were even halfway done closing the distance.
“Sleep. Sleep is the best medicine.” He urged you quietly. It was already a million times easier to fall asleep next to him, but as soon as he started humming old lullabies, the task became almost effortless. You were curled up in his chest before too long; the sound of his singing making its way into your dreams.

DRUNKEN CALL
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
author’s note: i swear it’s fluff (at the end lol) please believe me 😭
Tumblr media
it’s late at night and you’re watching your comfort tv show by yourself while your boyfriend is out doing god knows what, its not like you care at this point.
you two had a heated argument about something small, silly if you have to be honest, but your words to each other was starting to get harsh until the moment seungcheol put on his jacket and leave the apartment before he gets angrier and hurt your feelings for real.
you’re obviously furious at him, he left in the middle of the argument without saying anything and it’s been hours since he left. does he want to give you the silent treatment? does he really want to play this game with you? if he can be bad, you can be worse.
you keep watching your tv show when your phone starts ringing, it’s seungcheol. first call? you ignore completely. second call? still ignoring it. third call? you’re fighting the urge to not answer it, but by the fifth call you gave up, “what do you want?”
the only thing you can hear is your boyfriend breathing, “seungcheol? are you there?”
“im gonna marry with you one day,” seungcheol says, you can sense how much drunk he is right now, but that doesn’t stop him to tell you his true feelings, it’s actually the opposite, it makes him be brave enough to tell you what he thinks and what he wants. “i know you’re mad at me, but babe, i truly love you and i know i messed up by leaving without any explanation.. i just didnt want to say something that i would deeply regret after.”
“seungcheol,” you sigh, “you’re drunk”
“i know. but everything that im saying right now is nothing but the truth! you’ll see, i’ll put a ring on your finger and im gonna make you the happiest person of the world…” he pauses, you know he’s clearly fighting the urge to not cry. “i just love you so much and i wish we didnt have that stupid fight.. i need you, i always did and always do, so please don’t leave me. i even beg you! just keep loving me until the day we die”
you can’t help smiling, you know that you were the one who most hurt him in that argument and still he’s the one begging for forgiveness.
“where are you right now? i’ll pick you up so we can come back home and i can take care of you”
you hear him sniffing, “thanks… i love you more than anything, you’re the best partner ever”. you chuckle, “i love you way more, now tell me, where are you?”

as sweet as peaches | jeon wonwoo
wonwoo sits cross-legged on the floor, ikea manual laying open on his lap. the half built coffee table sits upside down in front of him, loose screws and nails scattered around the piece of furniture.
“did you find the piece that goes in this corner?”, you ask in confusion from your spot on the floor opposite wonwoo, one hand holding what you think is one of the legs of the table. “is it this one?”
your boyfriend looks up at you and breathes out an amused laugh, cheeks puffing up. “that’s the spare piece, gorgeous”.
you look at him, cocking an eyebrow, “you sure, wonu? because the last time you said something was a spare”, you point at the singular leg attached to the table, “that fell off”.
he grins sheepishly, “well… uh, maybe it could come in handy”. you shoot him a fond smile.
you both work on the piece of furniture for a while, sneaking glances at each other and giggling at lame jokes, before you stand up and wordlessly walk over to the kitchen. wonwoo follows your movement with his eyes, pushing his glasses up his nose as he does so.
you disappear behind the kitchen counter before re-emerging with a plate of sliced peaches and tangerines. setting it on the floor beside wonwoo you mumble, “odd combination, but it’s all i could find”. you peer at him and the softness you see in his eyes makes heat crawl up your neck.
“i love you”, he whispers.
“because of peaches?”, you ask shyly, taking a seat beside him.
“nope”, he breathes out, “peaches are just a bonus”. he picks up a fuzzy slice and holds it up to your lips. you accept the bite gratefully.
“the tangerines, then”, you mumble around a mouthful of fruit.
wonwoo laughs, it’s a very pretty sound, you think. low and deep, yet airy and relaxed. your giggles join his, the room filling with innocent delight.
the two of you continue to tinker with the coffee table, occasionally nibbling on pieces of fruit. with the build almost complete, you lean back on the heels of your palms, surveying your work.
“not bad for two amateurs”, you declare with a grin. “i think we could build all of ikea if we wanted to”.
wonwoo chuckles, “we’ll have many days of building furniture in our future”. you look at him in question. “dressers, bookshelves, cribs”, he elaborates.
your eyes widen and you feel your cheeks burn fiery red. cribs… baby cribs? did you hear him wrong? did he say it on purpose?
he turns to you, eyes dancing and cheeks slightly pink. oh. definitely on purpose.
you look at him, lips parted ever-so-slightly.
“one day, i mean… if you want to”. he whispers.
you don’t have a response. you’re breathless and giddy and so in love.
leaning forward, you press your lips against wonwoo’s. soft and careful. he hums in contentment against your mouth, kissing you back with fervour.
his hand trails up your arm to your cheek, cupping your face like you’re as delicate as fine china. his other hand snakes around your waist, resting against the small of your back. he kisses you slowly, and when he feels you smile against his lips he melts. to him, this is bliss.
you pull away, breathless and heart racing. and suddenly, you’re 16 again. too shy to meet wonwoo’s eyes, a soft blush colouring your cheeks when he squeezes your hand with a hum.
“baby?”, he peers at you, trying to catch your attention.
when you finally look up at him, he’s dazzled by the stars in your eyes. the very same ones he thinks you hung up in the sky.
“you’re too much”, you mumble, just above a whisper. the chuckle it coaxes out of him drives the feeling deeper.
he drops a quick kiss to your cheek, his eyes dripping honey.
you point to the unfinished coffee table in front of you with furrowed brows, “we’ve been neglecting our magnum opus”.
his bright laughter booms throughout the room. “i don’t think an ikea coffee table is our magnum opus, baby”. he thinks he knows what will be, but he doesn’t say it. he’s hinted at it enough today. instead, he picks up a handful of screws and the last remaining leg of the table.
you take up a purely supportive role. handing him missing screws or nails you see him hunting for. you lean against the couch behind you, silently watching your boyfriend finish the rest of the build. you admire the way his hands move deftly to hammer in nails, the way he pushes the sleeves of his sweater further up his arms, the way he adjusts his glasses on his nose when they start to slip.
you’re happy, you think. just silently being in his company.
“finished”, he declares, pushing himself off the floor and offering you a hand to pull you to your feet. you stand beside him and look down at your work.
“not bad, jeon wonwoo”, you praise.
“not bad yourself”, he responds with a squeeze of your hand. he smiles fondly when he feels you squeeze back.
he looks at you, eyes warm, and drops a chaste kiss to you lips.
warmth floods your body. he’s just so sweet, you think.
“you taste like peaches”, he mumbles.
he’s as sweet as peaches.
ahh wonwoo…
writing this was really fun!! sweet wonu thinking about how urs and his masterpiece will be ur baby…omg
i hope u enjoy this one! as always, my requests and asks are open <3

01:10am | choi seungcheol
Tumblr media
SYNOPSIS. in which your cuddly boyfriend interrupts your late night reading time. PAIRING. choi seungcheol x gn!reader GENRE. fluff, established relationship WARNINGS. a lil suggestive, reader is smaller than cheol, lil makeout kissing sesh oops, terms of endearment, cheol is whipped, self-indulgent fr WORD COUNT. 1.1k
notes: i just have this thing for soft cuddly bed scenes w cheol :(
Tumblr media
Seungcheol really doesn't know why that out of all other times of the day, you choose to read during the depths of the night.
But he's not at all complaining𑁋he's blessed with this grand view of you with your headphones on as you're sitting up against the frame of the bed behind, knees almost propped up to your chest, with a tiny, dim book light attached to the bridge of your book highlighting your face. Seungcheol thinks this might be one of his new favourite views of you.
He flips himself over to face your direction, opening an eye so he could quietly watch you. Seungcheol takes a moment to appreciate the cute, subtle details of your face when you're focused𑁋the way your eyelashes cast delicate shadows on your cheeks, the steady rise and fall of your chest, and the way your lips occasionally move, silently forming the words you're reading. The only sounds in the room he can hear are the rustling of you turning the page, the distant murmur of the city outside, and the faint music escaping from your headphones.
Letting out a yawn, he takes a moment to check the time on his phone, eyes widening to see how late it was. Yet when he turns back to you, he only pauses, because you seem too immersed in the book to be able to go to sleep right now, and he really doesn't want to disturb you.
"Baby?" he calls out to you softly, yet you don't hear him as expected, only furrowing up a brow at what Seungcheol could assume was you reading a peculiar scene in your book. He feels his shoulders deflate.
Instead, with a huffed breath, he can only take to sinking back within the bedsheets and hoping that you'd fall asleep after him.
But he can't fall asleep, no matter how much tossing and turning he does, since it's almost outrageous to his mind to the thought of him falling asleep without at least holding you in his arms like he always does.
Seungcheol turns himself over once more, a pout at his lips as he scoots closer towards you, yet you still don't seem to notice him. He contemplates for a moment, glancing down at your free hand at your side, and a thought crosses his mind. Slowly, he grabs your hand into his, intertwining your fingers together, and the action is just so natural and instinctive like a missing puzzle piece fitting perfectly into place.
He glances at you, noticing the slight smile that tugs at the corners of your lips as you continue reading. It isn't until he starts drawing circles on your palm and picking at your sleeve that finally grabs your attention, and you pick your head up to look at him, slipping your headphones off.
You watch the way he continues playing with your hand𑁋from drawing shapes on it, tracing the creases on your palm, to running a finger over your knuckles𑁋like it's the most interesting thing in the world.
"Cheol, what are you doing?" You ask bemusedly, attempting to pull your hand away but he just tugs it back.
"Hmm, missing you," he coos softly, adjusting your hands so that your flat palms are touching each other. The fact that the size of your hand is perfectly smaller than his is utterly adorable. "Your hand is small, you know?"
You roll your eyes, as if annoyed. "And yours is huge. We've been over this already."
"It's cute." He locks your fingers together again, tilting his head slightly to look at you. "You're cute."
You only click your tongue, biting back the smile to your face and the heat threatening up your neck as you bring your attention back to your book.
You release your hand from his. "Let me go read𑁋"
But before you can go back to reading, you feel a pair of arms wrap around and pull you into a tight embrace, knocking the book off your lap. A surprised gasp flies out of you, and in one swift motion, Seungcheol flips you both over so that he's now hovering over you. Your book is long forgotten on the floor as you stare up at him in surprise, the dim light casting a soft glow on both your faces.
Something catches in your throat as you lock eyes with him. If you listen closely, his breathing is just as unstable as your heartbeat, like he's breathless already. His dark gaze seems to hold a silent request, glancing between your eyes and your mouth. It bares a question that doesn't need words, and you answer with a small nod.
And with that, he leans down to press a kiss to your lips. It's soft, tender like always, and it doesn't take much for your body to go all limp below his as it deepens. He presses his weight against you carefully, making sure you're comfortable beneath him.
You feel the way he trails his fingers along your arm until he reaches your hand once again. With a deliberate move, he laces your fingers together before bringing your hand up to pin it gently against the pillow behind your head.
Seungcheol breaks the kiss, his eyes searching yours for any sign of discomfort.
"Okay?" he asks, voice a low murmur.
You nod, even though your heart is more than ready to burst out of your chest at any given moment. "Okay."
His eyes only soften, the smile to his face widening, a couple of shy giggles escaping your mouths together and into the thick air surrounding you both. He captures your lips once again in another sweet, lingering kiss, before nuzzling his face into the crook of your neck.
"So pretty," Seungcheol whispers against your skin, his warm breath sending shivers down your spine. He starts peppering feather-light kisses along your jawline, his hand gentle on your waist as he revels in the simple joy of holding you close. You lightly run your fingers through his hair, the soft strands slipping through your fingertips.
"Why are you being so... so touchy right now?" You tease impishly, sighing contentedly at his touch, feeling the soft vibrations of his laughter against your cheek.
"I dunno," he admits simply, pulling back slightly to look into your eyes. "You were reading too much."
"I was only reading for, like, an hour. That's not that long."
"An hour too long," he counters sulkily, pressing a soft peck to the tip of your nose. "I can't fall asleep without you."
You let out a playful scoff, running your fingertips up the exposed skin of his back ridden up from the black hoodie he wore. "You're such a big baby, Cheol."
Seungcheol leans down so his mouth is just a breath away, and before you could register it, he's rolling over once again so that you're on top of him this time, his hands coming to rest firmly at your hips. There's a smirk to his face that you can hardly see, yet you already know what he's thinking.
"Only for you."
"For... me?"
"Just for you," he murmurs against your lips. "I'm all yours."

when you turn off the bedroom lights, you're surprised to hear your boyfriend's shouts.
"wait!" jun grasps the covers, body jolting back at the sudden darkness. he bites his bottom lip while nervously awaiting your response.
you freeze, finger hovering over the switch. "what is it?"
"can you," he sinks further into the bed, cheeks heating even before saying anything, "turn on the nightlight by the door?"
the next few moments of silence have him worrying, but soon enough you're shuffling around, hand coming into contact with the item he'd described.
an illuminated cat stares back at you
"turn on the what?" you tease before making your way over to where he patiently sits.
jun pulls back the covers, allowing enough space for you to slip inside. he chuckles nervously when you entangle yourself around him, his gaze flickering to the ceiling.
your voice lowers. “are you afraid of the dark?”
“shouldn’t that be obvious?” he still won't look at you. when you reach up to brush back his hair, his embarrassment melts into content.
“do you think there’s a monster under the bed or something?” your head rests on his chest, words vibrating against his skin.
“what if i said yes?”
“then i’d say i’d protect you.”
he hums in satisfaction. "okay, good."

when you accidentally tell joshua you hate him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
you knew that joshua was a busy man but you'd expected at least a text from him on your anniversary. you're not someone that's big on things like these and have to have fancy celebrations but still… it would have been nice for you to get a little something from your boyfriend to show that he remembered.
when you finally heard from him though, it only disappointed you even further.
shua ♡ [11.49am]
hi honey, i won't be able to pick you up from work today. i’ll probably have to stay late and won't be going over tonight.
y/n [11.54am]
that's okay. don't work too hard and get a good rest after. i’ll see you another day.
you tried your best to hide your feelings in your texts to him because one thing about joshua is that he's observant and quick to pick up on your emotions and the last thing you wanted was for him to be worried about you. it probably worked because you don't hear anything from him after that.
at 7.40pm, you were standing outside your apartment contemplating if you should just head in or call the police. you heard strange, loud noises that sounded like metals clanking together coming from inside and considering how joshua wasn't supposed to be here, it was most likely a break in. it had happened to a few people in your neighbourhood recently. reaching for the phone sitting in your pocket, you stopped when you suddenly heard a familiar sound — it was joshua singing. relief washes over you at the fact that it wasn't a break in but then you're suddenly furious that joshua just indirectly gave you what you would consider the biggest scare of your life.
you threw open the front door loudly and yelled, “what the hell, joshua hong?!”
joshua jumped up then stopped in his tracks to turn to you with eyes wide like saucers, a pot in his hand and dressed in… your apron?
he lets out the breath he was holding once he realised it was you. “y/n, you scared me.”
“i scared you?” you stomped towards him to poke him in the chest. “you scared the shit out of me. i thought my place was broken into, i was about to call the cops on you. why didn't you tell me you were coming over?”
“i wanted to give you a surprise,” joshua’s lips quirked up in a cheeky smile. “you thought i forgot didn't you?”
you let out a long, heavy sigh as you moved past him towards your bedroom to put away your bag and jacket, completely missing his question. “i hate you, don't ever pull something like that again.”
the smile immediately fell from his face as he hovered near the doorway. “you hate me?” you don't miss the obvious hurt in his voice. “even after i worked so hard to prepare everything for our anniversary?”
you had totally forgotten about the anniversary after the scare. stopping whatever you were doing, you left the bedroom and looked around the apartment. that's when you finally noticed all the decorations that had been put up. there were flowers sitting in the vase in the middle of your dining table, balloons floating around the place, candles lined up on the floor, photos of the two of you all over the walls and all your favourite dishes on the table.
guilt came over you as you glanced at him nervously and reached for his hand. “sorry shua, i didn't mean it that way. i was just scared and angry.” your voice faltered slightly. “i shouldn't have said that.”
joshua took a step closer and interlaced your fingers with his. “yeah you shouldn't have, because it was hurtful but i love you.”
“i love you too,” you stroked the back of his hand gently with your thumb. “happy anniversary.
joshua pulled you into a tight hug before whispering into your ear. “happy anniversary, now make it up to me with a kiss.”
a/n: this was all bcs of a conversation i had with @synthetickitsune, take responsibility for this eden. 😔

open your eyes {choi seungcheol}
pairing: seungcheol x gn!reader
prompt: 'all this time, it was always, it has always been you.' (friends to lovers au featuring mutual pining and a bit dumb seungcheol)
warnings: none, it's but as always pov is not consistent here.
it’s a bit disorienting, if seungcheol is honest with himself. everything is as it was before, nothing changed and yet. he can’t get soonyoung’s words out of his mind, his drunken ‘listen, you two are practically married, why you will start dating?’ that slipped out yesterday made everyone laugh. and really, soonyoung says a lot of crap when alcohol loosens his tongue and no one really pays him much attention, seungcheol himself included, but this comment got stuck in his head. he thinks of your face, how you laughed it off along with everyone, never once turning to meet his gaze. the comment was supposed to be funny but seungcheol did not laugh, he simply couldn’t bring himself to; he only forced a dry chuckle out.
there’s a nagging thought in his mind, it chews him out from the inside, stirs and wakes all of the other thoughts as well along with his insecurities. has he ever thought of you in this case? he did, of course, at the beginning. right when you two just met, your radiance captivated him and he did think that maybe something romantic can spur out of this. but then when friendship with you solidified, those thoughts vanished from his head, because your friendship is the best thing that happened to him since he moved to the new city and he treasured it too much to spoil it with thoughts about love. and that’s the thing - he loves you. romantically or not is another question, but if he knows one thing for sure is that he does love you with his whole heart.
‘what’s got you frowning like that?’ your voice startles him from his stupor. when seungcheol comes back to reality, you’re standing in front of him with a box of takeout in your hands. ‘cheol? you okay? i knocked twice before letting myself in, just so you know.’
he scrambles to get up on his feet, shocked that he didn’t even hear you knocking or coming in. ‘sorry, just- nevermind. you…came?’
you look up at him, confused. ‘yes? you asked me to, remember?’ then you look around, frowning. ‘is it a bad time now? i can come later if you-’
‘no-no!’ get it together, cheol. ‘i’m sorry, i’m too in my head, of course you can come in now.’
you stare back at him, hesitant. he makes a small talk, which by itself is weird, because there are no small talks between two of you. busying yourself with placing takeout boxes on the table, you study him closely, noticing how nervous he looks and how out of character he behaves. could it be..? you shake your head, getting rid of these thoughts. no, no way. throughout the years of your friendship, many people threw comments questioning your ‘friendship’ status, there were a lot of the ‘oh, sorry, i thought you two are a couple’ and bunch of ‘that’s not how friends look at each other!’ but although you hoped and hoped - seungcheol never reacted. so your hopes died within you, somehow without tormenting your feelings for him in the first place. at first it felt horribly lonely to be the only one who’s pining, but with some time you came to an astounding realization that seungcheol loves you just like you love him, but he can’t distinguish his feelings. (‘will you honestly just wait without telling him?’ your friend asked one time, sighing. ‘he should understand on his own.’ you replied to her that time, keeping fingers crossed that the time will come sooner than later.)
‘you are being weird,’ you decide to voice out as you both start eating. ‘did something happen?’
‘soonyoung was very rowdy yesterday,’ he says absentmindedly, making you your favorite tea. ‘anyway, are you coming to that festival this week? i thought you and i could go to that lake thing?’
‘you mean riding on a boat?’ you ask and when he nods, your heart flutters even if you try to stop it. ‘i- it’s a couple activity, it was advertised as such. i don’t think we should go. you can take soonyoung with you though, it’d be hilarious.’
seungcheol pouts at that. he puts the cup right next to you and whines: ‘i don’t want to go with soonyoung and i don’t care if it’s for couples, i want to go there with you.’
you take a steadying breath at this. god, how can he not see? how can he not- ‘why?’ you ask, meeting his gaze. ‘why with me?’
seungcheol reels back, frowning. ‘what do you mean? you don’t want to go?’
‘cheol, just..’ you sigh, standing up. you come to stand next to him, placing your hands on his shoulders. ‘cheollie. just think, okay? why me? why do you want to go somewhere for couples with me?’
seungcheol looks at you, eyebrows furrowed, mouth drawn together in a tight line. his first reaction is to ask what do you mean again but he holds back. he looks in your eyes and thinks. why you? this is such an absurd question for him because.. who else? he doesn’t want anyone else. of course he wants to go there with you- ‘oh. my. god.’
you literally see how it all clicks for him on his face, how his eyes go from distant to shining with realization. it would have been comical if you weren’t so in love with the guy; your hands start trembling and grip his shoulders tightly. in hopes of supporting him you send him a soft smile, although your bottom lip is quivering and you feel close to crying for whatever reason. ‘do you understand now?’
he blinks fast and gulps loudly, slowly rising. ‘i- all this time-’
he looks so shocked that you chuckle, trying to make atmosphere lighter. ‘it’s alright, i’m just glad it didn’t take you till the end of the year.’
‘it was always you,’ he breathes out in awe. ‘all this time, it was always, it has always been you and- whoa, i’m so dumb.’
at this you finally break, laughing loudly and he joins you, laughing in disbelief. he takes you by the waist, not pulling you closer, but not letting you stray away either. ‘wait,’ he says in a more solemn voice. ‘you asked because you knew that i loved you? and you also..’
‘it did not take me that long to catch up as it did for you.’ you finish for him, smiling. ‘and i said nothing because i wanted you to come to it yourself.’
the way seungcheol looks at you is very familiar and yet different at the same time; his gaze is full of affection and fondness as it always was, but now gratefulness and disbelief is also a part of it. he looks like he can't believe his luck, like he's two seconds away from pinching himself just to check that it's all real. you honestly can relate because there's a roar of the heartbeat in your ears and you barely can stand, cause knees suddenly feel like jelly.
‘does it mean…’ seungcheol tugs you even closer until your face is almost pressed to his and smiles at your flustered state, ‘that we can go on that boat thing? together?’
your breath hitches and there’s no way that he can’t heart your rapid heartbeat now. ‘the one that is for couples?’
seungcheol nods. ‘enough time wasted on being just friends, don’t you think so?’
your hands come up, circling his shoulders. ‘we will hear some much shit from everyone about taking our sweet time,’ you mumble as he leans in, pressing small kisses all over your face. it’s an innocent enough gesture but your heart squeezes all the same. ‘cheollie.’
‘hm?’ he leans back to get a good look at you. ‘they can say whatever they want, baby.’
you blush at the petname and he smirks, pecking your lips lightly. ‘babe? love? honey? which one do you like?’ he laughs when you hit his chest and hugs you tight, kissing your temple. ‘i have to make up for the time we lost, so get ready.’
you sigh in satisfaction, nuzzling into his neck. you did it bunch of times before but this feels different, more romantic somehow. ‘i am ready,’ you whisper and close your eyes as he hugs you even tighter.
a/n: it's been a while since i've written a proper one-shot instead of imagines, so hopefully this one is good. here is link to my other works, check them out as well <3 - nini

SWEET BOY
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
PAIRING: lee seokmin x f!reader (ft. choi vernon)
GENRE: fluff, angst
TROPES: older brother figure to lover, childhood friends to lovers, coworkers to lovers, jealousy, skinship, dk being a blushy idiot and you being a plain idiot.
Tumblr media
lines are funny when it comes to your life. lines drawn from one point to another, lines forced to keep your work life and your personal life, but most important the big daunting line between you and your crush of nearly two years now, dokyeom.
it's funny, it really is, given how much time you've spent riling yourself up over him, telling yourself that he should retain the role he always had in your life: the older brother figure. because dokyeom's heart-warmingly kind, no even more so– blood-curdingly kind, painfully nice to everyone he meets, patient beyond imagination. he's worse than any nice guys you've met, simply because he fits the archetype too well to be real.
"don't you get tired?" you ask him, when he shows up at your door, clutching bags of take-out food, no doubt after hearing from your mom how you haven't had a chance to eat. yet, you'd emphasized to her after you'd made the mistake of letting her know you were too busy to cook.
"shouldn't i be asking you that?" dokyeom grunts as he lets himself into your house, familiar with the place like the back of his hand. "i know mr. ko called you in and gave you an earful for missing the last deadline, but that's no excuse to skip meals."
okay, worth mentioning is the fact that while you knew dokyeom since childhood thanks to the fact that you grew up in the same household, you'd also ended up moving to the city to sign a contract with the publishing company where he worked at, as an editor. it was half a coincidence, because you can't say you sought out the company simply on its merits.
you sigh as you stretch out a crick in your neck, "i'm not doing this because mr. ko told me to. i'm fine, i'm just trying to clear up my schedule before the end of the year. god knows i don't want to be working on new year's eve."
"and you won't," dokyeom takes off his coat, revealing a light blue sweater underneath, one that you've grown fond of. it's a sweet sweater, for a sweet man.
"well, thanks, anyway. for the food. sorry if my mom pestered you into doing this."
"i don't want to hear a word out of you till you've eaten."
you obey him silently, taking out the lukewarm bánh mì from its bag and starting to eat. dokyeom watches with a slight smile, noting how your hair was in a ponytail, a rare occurrence. just another indication that you were forcing yourself to work too hard.
"what am i going to with you…" he muses to himself, slowly tidying up the mess on your writing corner. the little wooden table you'd spent hours studying and testing before buying, is crowded with stationery and a few notebooks. your laptop sits blank, screen indicating that it was close to dying. dokyeom brushes off the stray balls of napkins off and into the small trashcan next to the chair, followed by all the tiny eraser dust particles. he's just plugged in your laptop when he hears you call out his name softly.
"hmm?" he calls back. "you want some coffee?" you ask and when dokyeom arches a brow at you, you wave your empty hands, "i'm done eating! can a girl not want a warm liquid post-meal?"
"fine, fine. i'll have some, thanks." he laughs as you glare at him, mumbling incoherencies about him.
"oh, right, i almost forgot to tell you," dokyeom pulls out his phone, ten minutes later when the two of you are settled on the couch, waiting for your steaming mugs to settle down a little. "there's a department-wide party this sunday, an end of year gathering or something. you should come, i hear the budget this year's crazy. it's at a fancy hotel and everything."
you narrow your eyes at dokyeom, "i don't know about that. work parties are a slog, dude. i can't stand to get drunk with the people who literally torture the creativity out of me."
"that's harsh, y/n. and an exaggeration."
"whatever…" you fiddle with the sleeves of your sweatshirt, "i… i don't even have a date. it's kind of a short notice to find someone anyway–"
"i'll be your date," dokyeom offers, faster than either of you could comprehend his response. his ears flush, "um, i mean, i'll go with you, if you don't… mind."
"why would i mind? i just thought you'd have someone to go with already," you say and when you catch the shy look on your friend's face, "unless of course, nobody's asked you. which i totally understand."
"hey! i don't want to take names but i've had to tell some people no already. so don't–"
"oh? so you rejected the people who did ask you? i thought you were too nice to do that. "
"yeah, i did. i didn't want to go with them. i don't know them well enough to guarantee they'll be fun for the entire night. plus, it's messy going with someone from work. you agree once, who's to say they'll keep asking you for life?"
"i'm someone from work, too," you point out, averting your gaze to the coffee, watching the evaporation swirl around.
"you're different, silly," dokyeom chuckles out, arm hitting yours, "we're already messy. i knew you before work, and i'll know you long after. we're more than that, you know?"
that? whatever he meant, you find your heart soaring ever so much, "hm, i suppose you're not wrong. fine, i'll come to the party." if it's with you.
that night you find yourself obsessing over this conversation. what did dk mean we're already messy? you were messy? you knew he didn't mean that like a bad thing but the word unsettled you anyway. your feelings for him only made it harder to listen to him objectively, especially when he says stuff like we're more than that. more than what, exactly?
–
dokyeom's having a hell of a day, carrying around a headache he's had since this morning and a heavy to-do list that doesn't seem to be going anywhere despite the fact that he's been at his desk for about five hours now. he sits back with a grunt, taking his eyes off his screen for a moment to take a break.
as soon as he tunes back into the physical world around him, he overhears his coworkers chatting near his desk, instant coffeee in hand.
"yo, you're kidding! how'd you get her number finally?" ren, a newbie, elbows the man next to him. vernon, the man in question, is grinning too wide for his own good.
"i just asked her for it. i told her i had some important doubts about her new manuscript."
"that didn't annoy her?"
"nah, y/n's chill like that. she was super nice about it, too, telling me she would love to hear from me."
ren gasps dramatically, "no way, do you think she–"
dokyeom clears his throat with a start, having had enough as an eavesdropper for the day. he stands up, making eye-contact with vernon who shoots him a nonchalant smile. it pisses dokyeom off, how wasn't he bothered?
his headache's only getting worse so he decides to get himself something to eat while he's at it. some fresh air might help him. he shoots the pair a stiff smile as he leaves the office, hand clutching his phone a little too hard. as he gets into the elevator, he's alerted of a message.
speak of the devil, he thinks when your name pops up on his screen. am i expected to dress formal for this party? you ask.
only if u want to :) he shoots back.
… what kind of an answer is that.
an honest one. expectations are only as high as you want them to be.
you know i hate you right
enough to ask me to be ur date? <3 <3
you're befuddled on the other side of the chat, "who asked who?" you mumble, choosing to not respond to dokyeom's frustrating reply to your very genuine question.
dokyeom, on the other hand, is feeling much better now that he's had a chance to talk to you. where you're reserved about your feelings for him, dokyeom really couldn't be more transparent about them. or so he thinks. but really, he's convinced he couldn't be clearer about how he feels about you– instantaneous responses to your texts, making sure you eat on time, corresponding with your mom to reassure her of your good health, careful attention to what you're into at the time so he can buy you the things you refuse to splurge on.
to dokyeom, this was the clearest confession of his love for you. the only reason he hasn't vocalized it in person is because he doubts any good would come out of it. he's more than happy with the relationship he has with you, a safe enough distance but a warm closeness anyway. besides, he's pretty certain you think of him as more of a brother than anything. an older brother figure you've known since you were children. better to keep things the way they were. right?
–
dokyeom's increasily unsure about his convictions to keep things the same. maybe it had something to do with the fact that you look breathtaking tonight. you're adorned in the prettiest pink dress, eyes sparkling more than usual thanks to the glitter you'd dabbed on and hair cascading down to your shoulders in curls that has him a little weak in the knees.
he does visibly gape at you when you greet him at the door with a small smile. he's flustered enough to be out of words so you're left speaking to a shell of him. "hey, you're a little earlier than i imagined. i'm almost ready. come in though."
when he stands still despite your invitation, you frown. "dokyeom?" he bites his lip as he comes to and nods, walking in after you. "you good?"
"yeah, just a little nervous."
"nervous?"
"you look really pretty," he musters, reddening when your eyes widen at his honest confession, "i'm a little dizzy." the two statements are correlated but you don't pick up on that, instead becomes concerned. you take his arm and your cold touch on his arm only sends him further down his dazed condition.
"dizzy? that's no good. come sit," you pull him to the couch, making him take a seat. god, dokyeom thinks he's dreaming when you touch his cheek, "do you need medicine? warm tea? water?"
he clears his throat, "n-no, i'm fine," he lets himself fall against the cushions, closing his eyes against the rush in his veins. "just– you should go get ready. i'll be back to normal soon."
you look at him in confusion for a prolonged few seconds before giving up and doing as he said. when you come back, you have a lip gloss and heels on. "okay," you announce to the back of dokyeom's head, "i'm ready, dk."
he sits up quickly, head clearing up now. he turns around to you and smiles a cheerful smile that is much more like him. "alright! let's go!"
you watch him warily anyway, all the way to his car. "ah, your hair–" you reach out to the back of his head where some hair stuck out from his earlier meltdown. gently, you brush the disturbances away, fingers swift in their adminstrations. dokyeom thinks he might break down again, the gesture making him feel giddy all over again. it doesn't help when he feels your warm breath on his neck when you sigh, returning to your seat. "ok, no more hair casualities, we are set to go."
dokyeom can't afford to look up at you so he simply starts the car, keeping his head straight so he can drive the both of you to the venue safely.
being in a room bustling with people he knows really helps dokyeom, for as soon as you reach the hall, he takes off in a rush, something about having to greet everyone that's important. you don't know to feel about his flight but you manage to shrug it off, trusting him enough to know he'll be back before long.
you station yourself near the refreshments, finding yourself a flute of champagne and some hors d'oeuvres to keep you company while dokyeom does what he does. you find yourself mildly enjoying yourself, people-watching all sorts of groups and downing your second serving of champagne, when you're joined by someone.
it's kitty, a coworker you're less than fond of, thanks to her loud mouth and overwhelming beauty. she's dressed in an immaculate white dress, face glowing even in the harsh light as she smiles at you. "y/n!"
"kitty," you acknowledge her with a cordial nod of your own, hoping this wouldn't take too long.
"how've you been? you look much better than the last time i saw, so not too bad i hope!"
your smile sours, "i'm fine, kitty. nice to see you're feeling as chatty as usual."
"i am! what better ocassion than a party to be social," she remarks pointedly and you contain a sigh. kitty was an important coworker, unfortunately for you, with her in charge for your public image and general likeability. it really should be criminal how little she likes you for someone who has to make sure you appeal to the masses.
"i didn't even think i'd see you around. you have a date?"
"i'm here with dokyeom, yeah."
this seems to startle kitty, because she's speechless for a moment. "dokyeom? he said yes to you?"
ignoring whatever undertones of disbelief kitty's giving off, you roll your eyes, "it was more that he forced me to come with him, but yeah, sure, however you wanna say it."
"wow, dokyeom's really kind to do that. he even turned me down. he must really treasure your friendship."
now you've had enough of her insinuations, so you cut the chat short. "sorry, kitty, i need to use the bathroom. excuse me."
you break away from her, feeling the weight of her glare at your aloofness. you really don't care for her snarky remarks usual, long-accustomed to the kind of gossip she likes to generate. but tonight, your tolerance was low. you didn't want to think about why dokyeom asked you to come to the party, and you certainly didn't want kitty's suggestions marinate in your mind. but it's too late, you feel your chest tighten at the thought of dokyeom feeling pity for you, asking you to come because that's just how kind he was, and you, his best charity case.
dokyeom spots you from across the room where he's eventually recovered from his weak condition. he feels guilt spike through his veins when he sees you storm away from kitty, who's no doubt spewed some obnoxious nonsense to make you leave the room with that tense expression of yours.
he excuses himself from his conversation to run off after you, managing to catch you as you leave the hall.
"y/n!" he calls out, catching ahold of your shoulder. "where are you going?"
you stop, startled by dokyeom's interception. you slowly turn around, trying your best to neutralize your expression. "um, just using the bathroom. i drank that champagne a little too fast."
"oh, you sure you're okay? i saw you talking to kitty earlier and i know how frustrating she can be."
you laugh mirthlessly, "i'll be okay as long as i don't run into her in the next five months or so." you turn away, presumably toward the washroom. you'd hoped your explanation would be enough to soothe dokyeom's curiosity but then you hear him follow after you.
"dk?"
"i'll go with you."
"to the washroom?"
"uh, yeah. i'll walk you in case you can't find your way back."
"they have signs everywhere and the party's in the biggest hall here– i– whatever, i need to pee too bad to argue with you right now."
from thereon, dokyeom doesn't leave your side for a second. you don't know what to think of it but you don't complain because your mood's much better when you spend your time by his side, shitting on the ocassional passerby and laughing at each other's jokes.
dokyeom regrets leaving you by yourself in the first place, especially because he's almost too certain that kitty had told you he'd turned her invitation down. it was awkward to even look at her, let alone talk to her. but then again, she's never been one to care about other people's comfort because about halfway into the night, you spot her trailing back to your table with a few people following her.
the group crowds your table and you find yourself pressed against a stranger who no doubt works with kitty. he shoots you a sleazy smile and you're grateful when you feel dokyeom subtly pull you closer toward him with a hand around your waist. what you don't expect is him to leave him arm there, draped down your back, finger resting against the small of lower back, sending chills up your spine.
"hey, you two! what're you upto, you've been stuck to this table for the entire night," kitty laughs.
dokyeom notices vernon among the group, much to his chagrin, smiling at you boyishly. you wave back at vernon with a soft chuckle, thankful that not everyone in this crowd was a snoozefest.
"just talking," is dokyeom's curt response. "are y'all enjoying the party?" he adresses the larger group, making it a point to not look at kitty.
"i wish there was more real food," someones pipes in with a grunt and people laugh in agreement.
"the wine's really good though. expensive stuff," vernon points out, looking at the wine glass propped between you and dokyeom.
"yeah, it's maybe the best thing about this party," you chime in with a smile. before dokyeom can somehow bring up the fact that he'd been drinking out of the same glass as you, ren gasps out loud, "oh my god, guys, the mistletoe man's back!"
you look around in confusion and find a man dressed in green overalls walking around with some mistletoe stuck his chest, neatly tied with a red ribbon stuck to his chest. "the fuck?" you mumble out and dokyeom laughs at your bewilderment. "it's a stupid tradition," dokyeom says softly to you, "heard someone say it's to foster closer connections between workers."
"by forcing them to kiss?" you whisper back with a grimace as you watch a pair break away from their kiss with bitter expressions. it's fine though because they look at each other's disgust and break into laughter, their table cheering them on.
"i think it's cute!" kitty remarks, watching the man as he turns around from a few tables over.
"shit, i think he's coming over here," ren curses. "why's that a bad thing?" kitty questions, smiling, eyes glued to the side of dokyeom's face. you might gouge your eyes out one of these days. you're too busy ignoring the ruckus kitty's causing with her frantic giggles as the mistetoe man approaches her. but then he goes past her and she goes silent, eyes coming to still behind you. that's when you realize the mistletoe man's standing square between you and dokyeom.
you turn around to the man with wide eyes but he simply smiles, "the mistletoe man knows when he sees two lovers!" you don't know what he means till you become aware of dokyeom's arm around you. he pulls away in surprise and his face is red when you look up at dokyeom.
"this is stupid," you murmur, hoping he'll agree and you wouldn't have to participate in this tradition.
"kiss! kiss! kiss!" ren starts a chant and everyone but kitty and vernon is quick to join in. dokyeom looks bewildered at the unison, and he looks at you, then down at your lips. "we don't have to do this," he comforts you.
"do you want to?" you ask him under your breath. you feel yourself flushing.
"i'll do it if you want to."
you hate how agreeable dokyeom is sometimes, wishing he would decide for you, for this once. you don't want to think about all the eyes on you, the whispering that's no doubt been reignited. everyone knows you and dokyeom have been friends and maybe something more for years now, but to witness conclusive proof is thrilling to them.
you feel frozen with the weight of the decision upon you. but then kitty opens her stupid mouth, "ah, dokyeomie, you don't have to do something you don't want to–"
that spurs you on, you find yourself pressing yourself against dokyeom, raising yourself to his height so you can press your lips to his. he meets you halfway, as if he'd been waiting for you to do exactly this, his large hand finding your cheek so he can seal the deal.
this goes without saying, you've never kissed dokyeom before, but the way it feels so natural has you questioning if this really was the first time. his lips are pillowy against yourself, his breath hitting your face sweetly when you finally pull away. his eyes are hooded like you've never seen them and you really wish you could memorize this feeling, ingrain it into your mind for later.
but the moment breaks when you hear the table around you erupt with all kinds of reactions. you don't care to look though, too busy with your own reaction to handle. your heart's fluttering but your eyes feel watery when you pull away from dokyeom. you don't know what to think of all the lines you've been worrying about, the line between you and dokyeom cracking the moment you leaned into his lips.
dokyeom's scared for his life right now. after the chaos around you settled a little, you'd looked at him and quietly asked if he could drive you home right now. he'd been quick to agree, following you out of the door without bidding anyone goodbye. but you're silent the entire walk to his car, not answering him when he asks if you're okay.
now that you're settled in the car, he pauses before starting the engine. "y/n," he starts softly. you focus on your breathing, staring down at your hands blankly. "i'm sorry."
this makes you look up at him, mouth slightly ajar. "...why are you sorry?" you ask quietly, lips set in a narrow line.
"i– that must have made you uncomfortable. i didn't know what else to–"
"i was the one who kissed you," you comment, looking away and out the window, hands now fists in your lap. dokyeom watches as you tuck some stray strands of hair behind your ear, "i should be sorry."
should be, because you weren't a bit sorry about the kiss. the circumstances that caused it? sure. but the kiss itself wasn't something you would undo.
dokyeom doesn't know what to say because there's so much to say. where does he even start? "i thought you always saw me as a… brother."
"what?" your eyes hold a sea of disbelief in them but then as you blink back at a solemn dokyeom, you think it's not that crazy for him to think that after all. "well, i used to. how could i not? mom had drilled it into my system to rely on you like you were family."
dokyeom hums, "...and?"
"i mean, i clearly don't think… i don't have the feelings of a sister toward you," you mumble, your cheeks on fire when you hear your poor phrasing. "if i did, it would be a problem that i wanted to kiss back there."
"you did?" dokyeom gapes and you look at him with a slight tilt of your head. "i– obviously!" you tell him.
he swallows, "wow. i don't even know what to think–" it's his turn to look at his hands that are trembling, "honest to god, i've never harboured anything but romantic feelings for you, y/n." he says this, head lowered as if in shame, ears revealing how embarassed he was. "i love your mother, but i swear she wanted to kill me the way she encouraged you to call me your brother when you were out with me."
you grimace, holding back a chuckle, "i'm sorry…"
"don't be," dokyeom sounds truly defeated, as if the work of hiding his feelings from you had finally caught up with him. "i'm sorry i didn't make myself clearer sooner. never imagined we'd talk about this because we got bullied into our first kiss."
you sigh, nodding as you mutter an agreement. dokyeom rises from his slouch slowly, coming to lock eyes with you. one of his hands comes to rest atop your own fist, prying it open so that you were holding his. you feel warm beyond imagination, feeling like you might burst open with the intensity of your feelings for dokyeom, wondering how you'd ever managed to keep them secret.
"can…" you stop, voice hoarse, licking your lips nervously, "will you kiss me? for real this time?"
it doesn't take dokyeom a moment's hesitation to close the distance betwen you, his soft lips back on yours, not soon enough for you to get used to the gentle saccharine daze that overcame you. your unoccupied hand card through his hair, similar to a few hours ago when you'd been fixing it, but this time dokyeom lets out the mewl he'd been contatining last time.
he pulls away with a somewhat grunt, eyes starry, "there's no way you didn't know what your were doing." you look back at him, a little breathless with a look of complete confusion.
he sighs, giving in and rest his head against yours, "when you were fixing my hair earlier, i thought i'd die of a heart attack. finally give up and move on from you, if only in death."
"don't say that, dk," you scold him, hands around him in concern, "and i don't understand why– i mean i feel like we've touched… in other ways before so–"
"i don't know either!" he exclaims, "i just– you looked so fucking gorgeous tonight and then you kept being oblivious to how obviously down bad i am for you– i just couldn't."
"hey, you weren't obvious if i didn't know! that's unfair…" you mumble, looking away with flushed cheeks. it didn't make sense to you.  but dokyeom simply laughs into your shoulder, pulling you into a hug, not much of a change for your dynamic. you'd hugged dokyeom countless times before but now you feel unimaginably closer to him, like you were actually holding him, the entirety of him in your arms. it was incredible, the warmth that blossomed inside you in the silence that surrounded you. it was love.
love shows up even in the early mornings when you're with dokyeom. he'd slept over after your date last night, when you'd insisted you would be too lonely to sleep if he promptly took off (like a gentleman, he commented). you'd laid in bed till 2 am, kissing and talking the night away, his hands finding their indents underneath your worn-out tee.
you wake up to his nose snuggled in your neck, breathing softly in slumber, hair sticking out every which way. you can't help the loving giggle that leaves you, making him stir in his sleep, arm coming to sit atop your bare stomach.
"sweet boy," you mumble, placing a kiss atop his forehead and watching in awe as his brown eyes come to life at the action. "you awake?" you jokingly ask but dokyeom responds with a groggy grunt, smiling with fluttering eyes.
you run a finger through his hair. he groans, "don't wake up yet." you laugh, stroking a strand behind his ear, "but i'm already–"
he cuts you off with a pout, "no, don't wake up, love. please, want to sleep some more."
you sigh and shift impossibly closer to him. "all right, then. can't argue with that logic."
with that, you doze off again. how you manage to fall right back asleep is beyond you, though it might have something to do with the fact that dokyeom's presence brings you a serenity you didn't know you could feel, a feeling that's better than the soft comforter that he himself had picked out for your bed. his arms hold you close, the sweetness melting your heart the whole time you dream, dreaming of dokyeom and of love.

wanna be yours — chwe vernon | 2,208 words | fluff
i'm asexual as fuck (the irony) but friends with benefits to lovers is a delicious trope i would love to see more of. title from i wanna be yours by arctic monkeys.
gender neutral reader. college!au. warnings: mentions of sex but no actual descriptions of anything. also reader is mentioned not to like coffee, because i dislike coffee. soz <3
Tumblr media
the last person you expected to see tonight was chwe vernon, dressed in his usual bomber jacket and slacks. yet here he is, crashing into the empty place on the sofa next to you. he doesn't say a word, simply squeezes his eyes shut and throws a hand over his eyes. dino keeps talking like there's been no interruption, but you're hyperaware of the way your legs are almost touching.
you and vernon didn't really run in the same circles before you got together, so it is odd to see him here amidst all of your friends.
"hey," you say, ducking down so you don't disturb the others.
"hurts," he says back, pressing his face into your shoulder. you look around, but no one really seems to be paying attention to you, some of them engrossed in beer pong and the others making idle conversation.
"what does?"
"my...head."
you wince in sympathy. "drank a lot?"
he shakes his head. "not that much. but i can't find seungkwan, and he has the keys to our dorm."
"so you decided to find...me?"
"better you than anyone else."
you don't respond to that, and you can tell by the way his head grows heavier on your shoulder within the next few minutes means he's asleep.
the first few months of your relationship with vernon were based solely on sex. it's the usual story — you met at another of minghao's parties (really, a catalyst for trouble), and hit it off surprisingly well with vernon. there was something you saw between you both and following it ended up with you in his bedroom.
when it was time for you to leave, it somehow didn't feel awkward. so you decided to test the arrangement another time. and another. and it's led you to whatever you have now, which is arguably more complicated than a normal relationship.
for starters, the past few weeks vernon's been visiting your dorm haven't been about sex. no, you've had actual arguments about which lord of the rings movie is the best and why shrek deserves yet another sequel. you've even baked with him, for heaven's sake (which ended not so well).
it's been less about sex and more about you fighting the urge to cuddle vernon when he throws an arm over your shoulder, or when he shares his blanket with you when you're feeling cold (which happens to be your blanket in the first place).
long story short, you like him, and he makes you feel some type of way you can't possibly let him know.
vernon twitches a bit when you pick up your cup from the table, toying with it but not actually drinking from it. you rest your hand on his thigh, hoping he doesn't wake up, while you contribute to the conversation every now and then. you pointedly ignore the looks dino's giving you.
this means nothing. vernon only found you because he knows you the most out of everyone here. he'd be in his own place by now if he'd found seungkwan.
still, there's something about the fact that he trusts you enough to fall asleep on you in front of people he's not entirely familiar with. that has to count for something, right?
people keep entering and leaving the room as the party goes on into the night. when the person next to you gets up to leave, you shift a bit down the sofa and pull vernon's head into your lap so his neck doesn't hurt when he wakes up. dino asks if he should wait for you before he leaves, but you make him go. it's not often you get to be like this with vernon, and you'd much rather he got back in one piece.
it's only when your back twinges and the music begins dying down and you remember you have an essay due next week you haven't begun working on that you decide to wake him up. you look down at the boy in your lap. he looks so much at ease, face devoid of the frown he sports every now and then. you feel almost guilty waking him up.
"vernon," you say, pushing his shoulder. "get up, both of us need to sleep."
vernon blinks his eyes open slowly. "wha'?"
"you. me. sleep. now."
"you want to sleep together? now?"
you trip on your words. "that's not what— i just need my sleep, sol." you bite your tongue at the name that slips out of your mouth. he doesn't mind his close friends calling him that, but you don't think you're there. or you'll ever get there.
"oh," he says, pushing himself up to sit.
"feeling better?"
"much," he says, running a hand through his hair. "but i had to tell you something, actually." he looks shifty. that gets your attention — vernon is many things, but he's never hesitant.
"i, um. i think we should stop seeing each other."
that shocks you the way falling into an icy cold pool would, the water taking no time to permeate your clothes and sting your skin with the cold and rendering you somewhat unable to breathe when it finally hits. "i'm sorry?"
"i said, i think we should stop seeing each other. not that the sex was bad," he says hastily, and you wince. that's a weird thing to say. "no, really. it's been great. it's just...i like someone, like, actually like them, and i feel being in this relationship would be weird."
you can't resist. "do i know them?"
vernon meets your eyes briefly before they dart away to the blank television screen in front of you. "i guess you could say that."
you rack your brains for who it could be. some names pop up in your mind: a girl from his friend group you've spoken to a few times, another from the library, the guy in english lit — but none of them shine as the number one contender for his affections.
you're one of the few close friends vernon has, but it doesn't matter. of course he wouldn't like you like that.
"fine," you say, feeling anything but. "okay."
vernon's looking at you like you're an injured puppy.
"i hope you get with whoever it is," you say, aware you sound a bit snappish, but you don't care. it's not your fault for liking someone as brilliant as vernon, only to be reminded that he doesn't really like you back. you're certain he likes your body more than he likes you, anyway.
"that's it?"
"what?"
"you're fine with it? just like that?"
you frown. "i'm not going to stop you if you want to go. we're not together. you should be with someone you really like."
"sweetheart..."
you shudder at the nickname that falls from his lips. you always like hearing it, more so the fact that vernon says it unconsciously. but now it sounds like a nail scraping against a chalkboard. you're not the sweetheart he wants. "i have a couple of classes in the morning."
"wait. it's a saturday."
"so?"
"we don't have classes on saturdays."
"yeah, well, that's you," you say, pulling out your phone to check the time. it's much later than you expected it to be. "dino's in the lab on weekends and i promised to help him out this time."
"listen—"
"i'll be glad if you let me go, vernon. i shouldn't have stayed this late in the first place."
"why are you acting so weirdly?"
you look up to see him frowning at you. why are you acting so weird, huh?
"i'm not. i just— i don't have to justify anything to you." you know you're being ruder than the situation calls for, but vernon is one of a kind. he'd taken to you despite the fact that you weren't one of the "popular" ones when you started out, and you'd managed to find a lot of common ground with him.
but the fact that you thought he'd like you back was stupidity on your part. you curse dino for hinting vernon might like you back.
"i'm sorry," you say, resting a hand on vernon's arm for a moment. he moves back at the touch and your stomach sinks even further. "i'm sorry this didn't work out. i hope you get with whoever you like. i'm just...tired. a bit. i hope this doesn't mean we'll...stop being friends?" it's a stupid thing to ask, but it's your last resort.
"i would," vernon says, crossing his arms, "if they weren't so dense."
"what?"
"i'd love to get with them if they realized i don't call anyone else sweetheart."
you freeze. you become aware of the people still present in the room, someone laughing, bottles clinking, bass still thumping, but— sweetheart?
"what are you trying to say, vernon?" you ask, making your voice as steady as possible.
"i'm trying to say that the person i want to get with doesn't really understand what flirting is."
you almost drop your phone. "no. vernon, you're not doing this. you don't mean it."
"i do."
"vern—"
"i'm not drunk anymore, see? and i do mean it. i don't just want us to be friends with benefits. i want us to be more. i want to take you out to dinner and stay up hearing you talk about why freud is the worst person you've ever had to read about. i want to watch whatever the heck it is you like. i want to date you. if you want me to, that is."
you're more surprised at how lucidly he's speaking, without a pause, more than what he's saying. but the meaning of his words slams into you like a tidal wave hardly a minute later. "if i want to, he says," you laugh helplessly.
vernon raises a perfect eyebrow. "well?"
you sigh and fiddle with your phone cover. "i don't— i've never been in a real relationship. not a long term one."
vernon moves closer to you, your knees now pressed against each other despite the fact that there's no one else on the sofa you're sharing. you can't even bring yourself to care about all the other people in the room. "really?"
you nod, feeling a strange sense of embarrassment creep up your neck. vernon simply lays a hand on your thigh. "hey. you know that's not a bad thing, right?"
you shrug.
"it's not," he repeats, rubbing his thumb across your knee. "and it doesn't bother me. is that what's troubling you?"
you shake your head. "you're just...the first person to want to be with me, even if it's just for sex."
"hey, it hasn't been all for sex. what about all those movie marathons we had? and that one time i helped you bake a cake for jun?"
"you mean you tried?"
vernon flicks your forehead, but moves in immediately to kiss it. the slight touch has you burning up, and you pray he doesn't feel it. "yeah. tried. but that's the thing, isn't it? it wasn't always about the sex for me. was it...the same for you?"
you can't get yourself to lie now. "it was," you say, putting your phone down and taking his free hand, fiddling with his fingers. "it is. i didn't mean to clam up like that. it's just...i want this with you, too, vernon. i've spent so long thinking about it. i'm sorry."
vernon sighs and runs a hand through his hair. "don't apologize, sweetheart. and it's a relief. i've never felt this way with anyone before. also, i've only had a couple of flings before you, but i really want this to go somewhere. and i want to try it with you."
you try to speak, but nothing comes out. you bury your face in your hands. "aren't you supposed to be drunk?" you ask.
"you always sober me up, sweetheart."
you shake your head and let it fall against the back of the sofa, vernon's hand cushioning the fall. there's silence for a while before he speaks.
"you know, no one's like that."
"like what?" you ask, slightly affronted. "is that supposed to be an insult or a pick-up line?"
vernon laughs a breathy laugh. "no friend with benefits offers to look after their partner when they're bored or drunk or whatever. and they certainly don't show up to basement music shows. you're...really the only person who gets me, you know? but now that i know you, like, really like me..."
"like you back."
you love his grin. "can i take you out on a date?"
"i...don't drink coffee," you say breathlessly.
vernon raises an eyebrow.
"milkshakes. or i could drink coffee, maybe. you like it, so i can try."
"there. again. you're too nice for your own good."
"it's just...me. i can't help— mmph," you get cut off when vernon leans down and presses a kiss to your lips. and another. you push him away before someone notices and teases you.
"i'm going to get some sleep, and we'll meet tomorrow. at a good place. not in my bed."
"you mean today."
"do you want me to cancel on you?"
"no," vernon laughs against your hair. "tomorrow. anything you want."

[02:10]
he watched you through the corner of his eyes, his lips quirking up involuntarily into a small smile when he saw you giggling at the book you were reading.
“did you even hear what i was saying?”
soonyoung flinched at the sudden voice intruding his blissful thoughts of you, glaring slightly at the two boys standing opposite to him, one looking mildly amused while the other looked thoroughly annoyed.
“what?” he asked seungkwan, causing the latter to roll his eyes.
“seriously, if you like her so much, why don’t you just tell her that?” seokmin asked to which soonyoung shook his head. “i would tell her but there’s no way she would like me back. i mean, she’s such a perfect student! all straight a’s and perfect attendance and behaviour and what not. and i’m…the complete opposite.”
“excuse me?” seungkwan said. “how are you the complete opposite? okay, maybe you don’t get straight a’s but its not like you bunk class, talk back to professors or act like a complete delinquent or something. and who knows, she might like you back.”
soonyoung looked at him dryly. “might?”
“well, i’m pretty sure she would have noticed your fifteen failed attempts to talk to her-”
“oh god, please don’t bring that up.” he groaned, burying his face in his hands.
talking to you shouldn’t have been that hard. it wasn’t like you were a very popular student and had a huge crowd around you (well, you were still very well known and always had people asking for your help in something or the other but that shouldn’t have stopped him from trying to flirt with you) but the number of times he had tried to approach and had failed was really, really embarrassing. how ill fated was he that right at that moment something would pop up and you would leave or someone else would call you away?
and just how big his crush was on you that he was this desperate even after so many attempts? soonyoung had always considered himself as a fickle person, if he couldn’t get to know the person he liked within a few attempts, he would just forget about it and move on in life.
but you, you had caused him to be stuck in the exact same place for months like glue. what had started as an ordinary admiration had quickly turned into infatuation and before he knew it, he was heads over heels with you.
soonyoung loved everything about you. he adored your mannerism, your dedication and hard work and especially how you always managed to take control of any situation thrown at you. and also, he loved, loved your cute smile and the sound of your laughter.
“hey, y/n’s free now.” seokmin commented. “why don’t you go and talk to her now?”
soonyoung looked up and turned to you, his heart skipping a beat when you too happened to look in his direction right at that time. you smiled at him softly and waved, and all he could was chuckle back nervously trying not to look like he was going to melt then and there.
“you’re right!” he said, looking back at his friends in happiness. but all of a sudden that happiness was filled with nervousness, when he realised he was finally getting to talk to you. “wha-what do i say to her though?”
“just say you want to talk to her, you dumbass.” seungkwan said, slightly slapping his arm. “say you want to talk to her, take her to the ground, and then say you really, really like her.”
“and if she says no?”
“then say you respect her choices and will always be waiting for her. and that you’ll try your level best to also show her why she should come to you.” seokmin said.
“what the hell? are they getting married or something? why are you so romantic for no reason?” seungkwan asked, looking at seokmin dryly.
“and why are you so anti-romantic?” seokmin countered back, but soonyoung had already drowned out his friends’ banter, turning back to look at you.
you had gone back to reading your book and he braced himself for the worst.
it's now or never, soonyoung.
taking in a deep breath, he got up and began walking towards your desk. but just as he was about to tell you ‘hi’, you got up and swung your bag across your shoulder, picking up your books. soonyoung froze and unfortunately the two of your eyes met again, your eyes widening when you realised that he was about to talk to you.
“oh hey. uh, sorry i need to run to the staff room. mr. park said he needs me.” you said, flashing him a quick smile before running out of the classroom.
all soonyoung could do was stare at your disappearing figure, mouth hanging open in disbelief.
wow. just wow.
he turned back to look at his two friends, who too flinched and looked equal crestfallen.
“it’s okay.” seungkwan muttered, patting his back as he made his way back to his seat. “maybe, uh, maybe next time-”
“yeah, sure.” he snapped, flopping down on his seat gloomily.
next time.

the next time soonyoung got a chance to talk to you was when his professor decided to hold a joint class in the lecture hall. as he and his friends entered the lecture hall, his eyes fell on you (you just happened to catch his eyes always even if it was in a crowded place; soonyoung swore that it was because of goddamn beautiful face) sitting in the second row all alone.
and even before he could turn back and signal his friends that he was going to sit there, he found himself darting to the second row, ready to grab the seat next to you.
but his legs came to a screeching halt when your friend sat herself down on that very seat, foiling soonyoung’s plan in every single way.
what do i do? should i sit behind her? or should i-
“what are you doing soonyoung? come and sit in the front row. you too, seokmin and seungkwan. didn’t you three tell me you’re finding microelectronic circuits hard?” the professor barked from the stage. soonyoung felt his cheeks flame up, clutching his book hard as he prayed you wouldn’t think he was stupid (well, he was but that was a different matter).
begrudgingly, he made his way to the front and sat down, seokmin and seungkwan on either side of him.
“shit that was a great attempt.” seungkwan muttered, opening his books.
“thanks.” he replied dryly.
“talk to her after class.” seokmin whispered back. “i saw her look at you in-”
“pity?”
“i was going to say she looked at you with regret, but okay.”
“that is pity.”
“no, that is the regret of not getting to sit next to you.”
“thanks, seok.” he muttered, rolling his eyes. he loved the amount seokmin hyped him always but sometimes it got out of hand like now. he could finally understand why seungkwan got tired of him.
it was like the entire universe was against him because time seemed to take forever to pass. seconds felt like they had been stretched to hours and soonyoung could feel himself getting more and more impatient with each passing second.
finally, after what felt like a million years, the professor concluded the session. trying not to look like he was in an immense hurry, soonyoung got up and stretched a little, packing his belongings in a hurry, pausing in between each time when he remembered that he had to slow down a little.
“dude, what are you doing?” seungkwan hissed all of a sudden, smacking him lightly. soonyoung looked at him in confusion before looking up to your now empty seat. wait what- “she already left!”
true to his friend’s words, you were already walking out of the door, arm in arm with your friend. panic seized him as he hurriedly stuffed the rest of his things into his bags, before following you out into the hallway.
the hallways seemed even more crowded than usual and soonyoung had to literally push his way to finally get to you.
he found you standing a few feet away from him but even then, you were talking to someone, that someone in this case being the campus heartthrob choi seungcheol and he felt a prickle of annoyance creep in.
you were laughing at a joke he had probably just made before handing him over a notebook, being the helpful angelic person you were.
now soonyoung was really annoyed.
hell, he had worked so hard on his grades hoping he wouldn’t make a fool of himself in front of you and that maybe one day you would notice him, and here was seungcheol, just flashing his killer dimpled smile and easily asking you for notes.
maybe it was his jealousy, or maybe it was the fact that he was tired of being unable to talk to you, but he found himself marching up to you, clearing his throat when he came and stood beside the two of you.
you looked at him in mild confusion before smiling softly at him. “hi, soonyoung! could you just give me a minute-”
“no!” it came out louder than he had expected it to be and he immediately regretted his actions when he saw you flinch lightly.
“hey dude, how about you calm down-” seungcheol began pushing him back slightly but that seemed to set his gears in motion.
“i like you!”
soonyoung felt the entire hallway freeze as your eyes widened (probably in horror) and he felt his entire face heat up in embarrassment. oh god, oh god, what had he just done?
“ignore- ignore me.” he muttered, squeezing his eyes shut as he balled his fists, turning around swiftly to walk away.
great. now he had ruined every single chance he had with you.
soonyoung began walking away quickly, wanting nothing more but to melt into his friends’ arms but then he felt someone catch him by his wrist.
“wait, soonyoung-” he turned back to see who it was, and to his surprise he found that you were the one who was holding his wrist. but you quickly dropped his hand when the two of your eyes met, looking down at the floor. “i, uh, i didn’t get to answer you.”
“huh?” was he hearing things correctly?
“your- your confession.” you muttered, before looking up to meet his eyes. he felt his heartbeat quicken at the new determined look on your face. “you said you liked me.”
hearing the words come out of your lips caused his stomach flip, and he averted his eyes away as he slowly nodded. “yeah,” he muttered. “yeah, i like you a lot. but i’ll understand if you don’t want to talk to me anymore-”
“i like you too.” you whispered, and he looked back at you in surprise. you gave him a shy smile (that nearly turned his knees to jelly), before repeating your statement. “i like you too soonyoung. a lot.”
“oh.” was all he could say, before snapping back to his senses. “oh. i, uh, i- oh. i-i- like you too. oh god, i’m so sorry. i’m- i’m just so-”
to his delight, you just laughed lightly, before smiling at him fondly. soonyoung too smiled back, feeling like the happiest person in this world.
“that was terrible, wasn’t it?” he asked, taking a step closer to you. oh my god. i’ve done it. i’ve confessed to her and she likes me back too!
you nodded, glaring at him mockingly. god, you were so adorable. “it was terrible. you’ve got to make up for it.”
this time, he laughed. “how does a canteen date sound like?”
