I really liked your post about fem!Zuko! Do you think you’ll ever write that? Do you think fem!Zuko is a better character than canon male Zuko?

Hard to say. Like I said in the other post, there would be some new aspects of Zuko in that case that would be interesting to explore.

However, ultimately I probably prefer him as male, and the main reason for that is the connection between compassion and his bending ability. Zuko was considered weaker for being compassionate and part of his story was embracing that compassion as a strength.

I agree that’s also powerful for a female character, but something just feels kind of weird to me since it sort of plays into misogynistic stereotypes? I’m having trouble articulating myself here but I’m not trying to say that’s a bad narrative or that it’s weak, just due to social perceptions, people would be so weird about Zuko if he was female. Like, due to the way women are perceived, it’s almost expected for female characters to follow this narrative. I’m not saying it should be that way, but that’s just how people act sadly.

I like the fact this narrative was put onto a male character because of the subversiveness of it. Especially a character who has a somewhat edgy exterior. I like how he embraced kindness and love without shame and without any of kind of insecurity over his “manliness” or whatever. It’s just refreshing to me.

Idk how controversial this is but mako should have gang/triad tattoos. I really think that we don't lean into that aspect of him enough.

Also heres a random excersize in designing avatar style clothes in a more modern way. Mako is my model lol. I'm really proud of the "sneakers" lol

Idk I was just digging through old art and wanted to post something alongside the tats.

I don't think mako should be a cop though. I like the working class, former gangster vibe for him if he can't just be a pro bender.

I think Wu would still hire him anyway if he wasnt a cop. He'd find a press photo of the krew and be like "I want the hot one pls"
