Can you give tips for studying maths for a 11th grade student??
hello!!!! thanks for the ask, for credibility of my tips, I was the kid who was never good at math, actively hated it, wanted to drop it when I was in year 6. I was a like 30% - 40% scoring math student [in year 8 & 9], who moved to the high 80%s - 90%s in my last years of high school [year 12 & 13] - to the point I was regularly topping my class, I scored the highest in math out of all my subjects, and I am dreaming of pursuing physics. I did get a wonderful tutor, who helped me a ton in getting better, this is what I learned:
math is seriously mostly just practice & consistency
study 4 hours a week above what you do in school
do not ever give up on a question without attempting it at least thrice - in revision, not an exam of course
the whole point is getting so good at the methods of solving they come naturally to you
as well as analysing what method of solving helps in certain criteria
building math is like building a muscle, it takes consistent effort, you have to build math skills like you would build a muscle in the body, repeatedly, until it feels normal
if you struggle with a topic, give it the most time, - I am not particularly great at mental math, but I have been working on memorising my timetables (yes I am 19 years old) because my brain muddles up the numbers a lot
take your time solving questions, practice the motion of solving it, before trying to go fast - you will naturally speed up the better you get
meditate - staying mindful when doing math helps see clearly & think clearly. mindfulness has helped my problem solving tenfold.
also, it does not matter if you are bad at math, because you can always get better, being bad at something is impermanent, and can always be changed.
you aren't stupid, or dumb for not being as good at math as your peers (this was me, for quite a while). you're just struggling with a subject, which is normal - and you can get better if you work on it!
I think thats most of it!!! best of luck! let me know if you need anything else !!!

hello! i stumbled upon your blog a few days ago and was honestly amazed at how you progressed in your german learning in less than a year. i don't know if you ever made a post about it, but could you share how you structured your learning routine? i'm self-studying french and the thing i find the hardest is how to cover all the topics i need and fit them jn a schedule. i know it's different fot everyone, but you're a major inspiration source, so it'd be pretty helpful! thank you in advance 💜
hi, firstly thank you so much!!! this is such a kind message!!!!! like very seriously, the type of message I would store in my heart for a long time, so thank you.
going to be absolutely real with you, I was very free as I picked up German, it was kind of my only goal for 8 months, so I didn't need to worry about other tasks!!! but in general, I started using the Common European framework of reference for languages [CEFR - A1-C2] to guide my revision, I did A1 - A2 with a language learning institute [goethe], where I got content + guidance from them and B1 - B2 with a private tutor, though I used a lot of my own resources + scheduling, so I'll break down what could be useful for you!
I broke German down into vocabulary and grammar, like just fundamentally - I did learn a bit of French, so I think this could work for French too, considering tenses as a part of grammar.
generally you have to progress in a language from basics to intermediate to then advanced, such that vocabulary + grammar structures get more complex as you go along. I (allegedly) pirated (alleged) German learning books from the (alleged) website libgen/scihub, and used them for practice. I also found free content online for German B2 grammar.
if you want to pass an exam, then what I did would work - towards the exam time, I pretty much just understood grammar structures, and read vocab, then did past papers until I was really good at it, because I needed the certificate for uni. but in general, I recommend practicing these structures yourself, and integrating them into your life. I watched German shows, listened to German music, read tons of stuff in German, and of course, all my devices are in German now. [I also did this before my French IB exam, albeit I am not very good at French]
my schedule had German every day, on average 3 hours, the week before exams 4 hours a day for like 5 days straight. I gave myself a week to go over grammatical structures, but if you just obtain a French A1 book and start doing the exercises alone, you would be just fine. I missed 20 hours of the start of the A1 class (I did 4 hours a day from A1 - A2) and I just used the simple book they gave, understood stuff with a dictionary and pushed forward.
this reply might be super all-over-the-place so do let me know if I should expound on something specific or if something makes little to no sense,!!!!

i fully did it guys. no tags on this one just wanted to thank you guys for being here, i started this process in september, and nobody (but family) thought it would be possible to do — you really can do anything if you work hard enough. do not listen to anyone else if you know you can do something.
funnily enough i think this is my 100th post

I remember seeing your blog like 1.5 years ago, just when I was starting my 1st year if IB (or somewhere near that time). Two days ago I started my final exams session and am about to graduate. It's good to still see you around, especially after what felt like a lifetime of nonstop studying and exam prep when I hardly had time to be online at all. I'm so glad it will be over soon
And gl with German!!
hi omg!!! i remember you!!! i started my blog when i had just started IB so its insane that you’re doing your finals!!!! biggest biggest congratulations!!! sending you best of luck on everything because i know how tough the journey is!!

Hi! Your page is so wholesome and aesthetically pleasing! I love your vibes. I'm a fan of your penmanship, so I was wondering if you had a favorite pen!
hello! I have just seen this! thank you so much, messages like this genuinely make me feel so nice!!!!!!!! also thank you for liking my penmanship, every single teacher, friend, and person around me have said it's illegible, to a point where I had to take time and slow down so my papers get marked properly!!!!!! personally I think it's aesthetic in a messy mad scientist kind of way, so thank you for encouraging me!!! so to my fave pens, right to left!
Tumblr media
gel x [no idea what size]
this is a random Kenyan brand I would kill for. I love these, I used them as replacement for my pilot pens when I couldn't find any, and I love them. 10/10. a pen is worth like a dollar/euro (idk I use kenya shillings)
pilot g2 0.7 [basic fave]
I love these, I can't even say anything against them, I just love them, they are pretty expensive based on where I live (kenya), but when they stopped being imported - even now you cannot find them here, I felt it in my heart
muji gel pen 0.7 [I own three of these in total]
I bought these when I went to India, and I use them exclusively for the planner in the photo. I love the way they glide and are so pretty.
miniso 0.5
this one is a fave bc I like how it looks, solid for smaller notes, and just all in all a comfy pen to carry around, make random notes with. I like it for side notes in my actual like academic work, as well as novel annotations - I did my extended essay on the god of small things (arundhati roy) and all my notes and analysis in the margins are by this pen)
kaco 0.5 [big pack with many pens]
bought these on amazon India, fantastic pens. I love them, I use them for subheadings, margin notes, side calculations, marking, annotations, etc. the nib is perfect for smaller writing, and the variety of colours allow solid solid contrast - these are in a lot of my posts I think

i love how aesthetic your studying is, I'm also taking the ib and my studying for finals isn't nearly as pretty </3 where are you planning on attending uni! I'm also doing 2 hls sciences and hl maths lol
hello, first, i love your @ so much. thank you so much!!!!!! i appreciate this comment so much. let me tell you i truly position the best of my notes here, a large majority was so scary i was repeatedly told that my work needs to be neater, the examiners will not mark me well if they can't decipher what I have written i still passed so i guess they understood my writing eventually)
rest in peace my sibling in arms, bc two hl sciences and hl math is insane!! have you graduated? I'm attending uni this October! in Germany!!!!! message me!

hey! i just finished my grade 12 exams and was looking into studying in germany. i was just curious what exactly you’re doing right now?
hi! so I have been waiting for someone to ask me this omg!!! currently cracking my knuckles opening up my laptop to answer this one
curriculum
so! essentially the main thing here is whether your high-school diploma is enough for university study, i.e: is it qualified as a Hochschulzugangsberechtigung, HZB. I did the International Baccalaureate diploma, and based on the curriculum (and subjects chosen) you have studied, the route will be different for you. the German curriculum is of course best for studying there, but the IGCSE one is solid too. I am not sure for others, I live in kenya, so the main education systems are the Kenyan one, IB, and the Cambridge IGCSE one. best websites to use to figure out how to get there are as follow. DAAD is based on anabin, but anabin is from the culture ministers conference (the OG guys of deciding this study)
DAAD:
https://www.daad.de/en/studying-in-germany/requirements/admission-database/
anabin:
https://anabin.kmk.org/no_cache/filter/schulabschluesse-mit-hochschulzugang.html#land_gewaehlt
the main categories are:
a. diploma valid in both country of education + Germany
b. diploma valid in only country of education, not germany
c. diploma not valid
field of study
based on your choice for your field, and also bachelors, masters or phd, all play a role. stem courses will generally not be taught in English, and you will just have to know German, if you want to study stem. unless you can find a specific international university, there are almost no courses (I could not find even one pure physics course in English) for stem in English. if there are, you will probably compromise on quality of education.
humanities courses are taught in English, so if you go into literature, business, psychology, economics, hotel management, etc. there are plenty of courses at very very good universities.
public universities are usually the best in Germany, have relatively low tuition (recently introduced in some uni's for international students) and are extremely high in quality.
what I am doing rn
my diploma went into category b, above. despite getting above average IB points, being a student with tons of extracurriculars, the subjects I took, along with the general regard of the IB diploma in Germany resulted in my situation.
I have to do a studienkolleg (a foundation course for international students). in order to apply for a stem oriented course, as I am going into physics (women in stem!!), I need a studienkolleg, and in order to go into the studienkolleg, I need B2 German.
I have essentially taken a year off (may 2023 - sept 2024) to figure out how I am getting there. I started German in September 2024, after figuring out I need to know it + I need a foundation. everyone online has said you can't learn a foreign language in a year - do not listen to them, it is entirely possible, difficult, but honestly doable.
so yeah! ask if you have any other questions. despite all this, the reason I want to study there is quality of education in relation to tuition, the job market, the benefits for international students, and the quality of life.
